I mean there is a reason why 99.9% of lists for starting Bourbon fans start with Evan Williams BiB and WT 101. There are so many great whiskeys in the starting range that can hold their own vs 'higher tier' bottles.
I personally don't smell rubber when sniffing peated whiskies. To me it's more smokey and earthy than rubber. I've also been drinking it for a while so I may just be used to it by now 😄

It's more earthy and sometimes medicinal
I should've gotten Mac to drink Fernet
