Thank you Suja. Your videos are very helpful because of the lack of clear instructions or lack of user-friendly process laid out for getting these things done. I am always confused about the whole process and that is further exacerbated by the poor English or wrong choice of words. Nothing too surprising, it is a process set by the Govt. of India. So that you for clarifying these things in a simple way. It seems now VFS prints the return shipping label themselves. When I printed the courier label I only saw the label to send the documents to VFS. Thanks.

I mean, in 10 years I guess everyone’s face changes to an extent. How serious are they about it?
No .. you can say “yes” for tatkal application

Thanks Satish. Quick Question on the Self Sworn Affidavit. It appears to be removed from the Latest Document checklist from the For "Adult Section" and is moved into "For Minor" section. I just wanted to confirm with you whether this document was still required for me? I am single and have no minors.
Thank you for description & FAQ video's! The checklist last page mentioned 'common mistakes to avoid.' It says ensure that sign on passport and application form are same. However, my current signature is changed (as mentioned on affidavit for change ) from what I had on previous passport. Should I do newly changed sign on application form? or old sign on application form but new sign everywhere else?
In think of you have officially changed your signature you have to go with new sign ,

Thank you! Regarding submitting passport, checklist mentioned attaching current passport (2010-2020). The last page of checklist (i.e. common mistakes to avoid) mentioned that 'if you have more than 1 original passport, then send all. Do I also need to attach even the older passport(created 20 years back, punched, with stamp canceled & returned by passport office 2000- 2010)?

Hi Suja, I am confused about 1 instruction on the checklist #8 “Don’t forget to ENCLOSE the Application Confirmation Receipt and acceptable pre-paid label”. I’m opted for VFS label, and they gave only 1 that is to send the documents.
Also in the comments I read that VFS has started generating the return label.
So should I stick just the one provided onto the envelope?
Or should I ALSO enclose a copy of that inside the envelope as well?

I see people asking if this should be handwritten. I assume that printed information should be fine. Of course signature would be manual and with pen. Correct me if I am wrong.

1) As per checklist, it says Mandatory : Indian Passport: Please provide copies of first five and last two pages. Do we need to provide this or only informational pages are sufficient. Also, are these require to be Notarized.
2) For Legal status, if I am sending Visa for both parents, is it necessary to send i797 Form as well.
3) if there is no change in Indian address, do we need to send Indian address proof, if yes does it needs to be notarized.
4) Copy of passports of both parents, Does it need to be entire passport or only informational pages. Does this need to be notarized.

Hi Suja! Can you explain clearly what is difference passport apply application for New Passport, Renewal passport and Reissue passport. I think there no difference. We should filldup same form and tick on New/Renew/Reissue and process time is same, submit all documents require etc.

1) Annex. E - should it be motorized?
2) Is it necessary to sign on all photo copies? like pan card , passport copies ( first 5& last 2 pages), birth certificate, degree certificate
3) Is it necessary to send birth certificate and degree certificate
4) Within how many days from the generation of documents should be mailed to VFS?

Hi Suja, In the change of appearance form, should I physically paste the passport-sized photo with glue and then send it or should I just insert the image virtually onto the doc and then send it.

Hi Suja, for documents it has been mentioned that provide original (the one we prepare with signs/color copy) and photocopies, so does it mean we have to provide 2 sets of copies? Thank you in advance.

What does notarized and original means in mandatory document list.. very confusing.. they can say just notarized if they dont want original without notarized

If you don’t have any major changes like hairstyle, eye glasses , beard then you can mention “has not changed “

I am renewing my 6 and half year old daughter's passport.
1. In Affidavit for change in appearance and signature form, we had very less space to write complete parent name so wrote only first name and notarized with that name. Also the notarizer made both of us sign below my daughter name before he notarize the copy. Please let me know if this an issue.
2. Notarizer is saying he will not notarize any Government issued ID cards like valid visa status, i797 approval and state ID. We will have to make a statement for these it seems. Can you guide us on this?

Not mandatory... but if you want you can send one extra photo..

In Affidavit for change of appearance and signature form, you have submitted mm/dd/yyyy date for 'issued on' section, shouldn't it be dd/mm/yyyy as on old passport?

Hi, do we need to purchase an extra envelope or does FedEx provide us with one? If yes, then where do we need to write "RE-ISSUANCE OF PASSPORT" on the purchased one or the FedEx one? For checklist, I don't have my name on top or the other details like phone number / email do I need to type it in and then print or can I just write everything on the checklist using a pen? When you take your documents with label fedex they will provide you envelope ( no need to pay ) you can write on top of the envelope.

I have already paid VFS global. In case, Tatkal gets rejected because of change in appearance. Will they continue process for normal application or reject the entire application?
If you select change of appearance , your not eligible for tatkal.. application might get rejected

If your current passport photo is going to be different from previous passport photo, like hairstyle, beard etc

I had a few queries while filling the application and was hoping you could help clarify them.
1. Should all Mandatory Forms have an Original & Photocopy (Example: Online Application Form, Annexure E, Affidavit for Change of Appearance & Signature, Status in USA, Address Proof etc.)
2. Should all the pages of the Mandatory Forms be signed ? Even the ones that are already notarized?
3. It is mentioned that the Checklist be the cover page of the application, should each page be filled with Name & Other details and be signed?

1) all the documents mentioned by vfs are originals and the supporting documents you submit is photocopies.
2) only attest the supporting documents
3) fill the details asked in the checklist and sign only the last page where it is mentioned
Hi Suja, I have couple of questions on address proof for minor re-issuance of passport. As per checklist (minor) it says
Proof of address must match with the present address as per application: (any ONE of the below documents)
- Marriage Certificate in case the address in spouse’s name, birth certificate of child in case of minor applicant
along with parent’s address proof. OR
- In case of applicant residing with parents/children/ relatives, a notarized undertaking from them with one of the copies of address proof as indicated above.
So I need to attach birth-certificate (for the child) and one address proof notarized copy? Do I need to give notarized undertaking mentioned in second point or its not needed?

No need to provide notarized undertaking for minor applicants it’s only for adult applicants

You can fill manually no issues in that ..
if you can reach out to your police station through phone they will guide you .. mostly they will ask you to email copy of aadhar card , passport

1)- I already notarized my documents, now I noticed from this video that, I didn't mention police station in Self Sworn affidavit. Can I make changes to already notarized document ?(in hand writing)
-2) Also , I assumed that the 'Change of Appearance affidavite' will always say appearance "HAS changed ",as I am renewing after 10 years( but acutally there is not much of change from my previous passport photo). I am actually applying in TATKAL. so, should I re-do this affidavit and notarize again ? or can I make correction with pen ? TIA

2) no problem you can provide “ has changed “ also .. some one who answered “yes” to change of appearance didn’t have any issue in renewal through tatkal

One more query, if we have more than one original passport do we need to send two original passports in courier.

Kindly guide on these two questions from your experience:
1. Did you send the labels printed on normal letter sized paper, or got them printed at FedEx on their sticker kind of labels?
2. Did VFS use EXACTLY THE SAME label that you sent with the package, or maybe they generated a new label from the bar code of the label that you sent?

The answer to the second question is indeed very helpful, because I am planning to add a manual comma in my address on the paper label that I am sending because the label combined two lines of my address together without any space or punctuation mark. Thanks again for the help! (If vfs had generated an equivalent label using the bar code on the label sent to them, then the manual comma would be of no meaning). Really appreciate your help!
Hi Anuradha Patel, I got just 1 label to be downloaded from the VFS website. Did you make 2 print outs of that - one inside the envelope and one stuck on the envelope cover?

I submitted my application in tatkal and forgot to submit a change of appearance form and VFS Global asked for it.
If I submit it with `yes` then it will be considered normal application.
If I submit with `no` then I am worried that my appearance has changed over 10 years with facial hair et al.
What would be the criteria for change of appearance?
If thr is no major change and if they can relate your recent photo with the one in your old passport then your good

1) I wish to print my Indian Permanent Address(Same existing address on existing passport that is set to expire soon) on my new/renewed passport. I have got my income tax return from US notarized(for US Current Address) and am providing Aadhar Card for Indian address proof. Do I need to get Aadhar Card notarized as well?

1) not mandatory, if your not changing address no need to provide Indian address proof. For safer side you can keep self attested one . No need to notarize

I am applying for Tatkal from US. My current passport ( about to expire) has my older Indian address. Now, I am providing my US address as “ Printed on Passport address” and also giving the current Indian address of my parents ( is different from old Indian address in current, about to expire passport). Hello Madam, I have question regarding notary. On name change affidavit they have written in checklist like both notary and applicant need to sign and and notary will do stamp. For valid legal status and residential proof they said only notary signature and stamp needed. But when I visited notary in public library, he said applicant also need to sign on legal status or residential proof then notary will sign. Is it fine if I sign on that two documents. I am asking because in checklist they didn't mentioned for applicant to sign on that. Hope u understand my question.

My sons old Indian passport has thumb impression below his photo.Now he can write his name in the applicant signature section. Does it mean we have to say "has changed signature ?" . And mention so in respective form.

Hi, so I dropped off my documents at FedEx on the 25th and was able to track my package. It reached the destination (which is in New York) on the 26th. I was just wondering how long should I wait to hear back from VFS Global that they have received / approved my documents? Looking forward to hearing from you.
They usually send a acknowledgment email once they open your package.. however am not sure about the timeline since their are delays due to covid

1) it’s fine to do manually, no issues with it
2)if their no change no need to submit, but if you feel it’s better to submit then you can include it

@Suja Prakash. Since we have to send our original passport , how can we handle the tenure here without passport until we get the newer ones since we will not have original old passport with us
No issues with that you will receive your original old passport along with the new passport
@@SujaPrakash I meant the tenure when we ship our original old passport to them it takes 6-8 weeks to receive both old & new passport right. What if need a passport in those 6-8 weeks? Thanks for your replies I really appreciate your work
Thank you .. I case if you need your passport in that time interval then you need to contact vfs regarding that . But best is , not to plan any travel in that timeframe..
Also if your eligible for tatkal .. you can apply in tatkal which will take 2-4 weeks

It’s better to do so even though is not mentioned in checklist, it’s in the mandatory documents list .

The whole document should not be handwritten, we can fill it manually, I did with pen and didn’t have any issue
