Started with singlestrand wire, played with stranded, fluoro, heavy mono. I keep coming back to single strand. Still use some plastic from time to time but it's definitely selective. Time was if you weren't fishing fluoro you were unenlightened, handicapped, certainly not with the "latest/greatest" and, otherwise, not gonna catch as many fish as whomever was taking you to task. BS! I know this is over a year ago but it's nice to see things swingin' back around to some sanity instead of all marketing . For me, leaders are a tool just like lure selection. Do they allow protection? Lure action? Ability to navigate heavy weeds or open water? Balance with lure? Plenty more variables.
