ITF Tennis10s: Starter Rally Practices

  • Tennis10s is tennis for players aged 10-and-under, played on smaller courts with slower Red, Orange and Green balls. It is a fun way to start tennis and makes it easy for children to play the game, develop good technique and tactics and a love for the sport.
    Using the slower balls helps players to develop the most efficient technique and to be able to implement advanced tactics that in most cases could not be performed using the Yellow ball on the full court.
    Tennis10s is part of the ITF's Tennis Play and Stay campaign. There are three stages of Tennis10s that allow players to start at the suitable level for their ability - Red (Stage 3), Orange (Stage 2) and Green (Stage 1).
    The following video is taken from the ITF Tennis10s DVD.
    The presenting coach is ITF expert Mike Barrell (Evolve9) from Great Britain.

    these drills are very nice and all but i wish someone would post something with complete beginners not especially picked students who have obviously done this before

    Toughest thing about drills like these and videos like these...all the kids can PLAY. I’d love to see more videos where the kids struggle. Why make a video about beginner tennis showing intermediate kids? They were rallying topspin shots 6-8 times...

    Девочка в белом хорошо подготовлена (см. в конце видео) и 3 неумехи. Занятия строятся для неумех. Девочка в белом
    будет "ждать" пока до её уровня дотянутся неумехи. Очень важно с кем тренируешься

      you're are right. are you a 10&U coach? I taught at a 10&U academy and most beginner kids can't even hit a ball on the strings twice in a row. It takes a while for them to figure out where the racquet head is in reference to the ball. I'm not against the smaller racquets and lighter balls because it makes physical sense to have a ball that doesn't bounce beyond their reach. The teaching methodology is questionable though. I have a feeling that everything is about having fun and not about teaching them the fundamental technique (swing path, follow-through, stances etc.) It should be a balance between the two.

      ***** I agree, but its a tutorial... cant have noobs demonstrating simple shit. If the kid is useless at something, than they must train to be better at it until they can do it... activities like this should take minutes, even one successful hit will do

    • @josephhamtol8868
      @josephhamtol8868 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      i can teach any beginner to hit the ball in one minute ...no usta bs

    looks good to the uneducated eye but it's terrible. tennis is played with rackets. people have strange ideas how to teach beginners tennis. this is why the coaching is so bad in england

    • @noahcapetta4217
      @noahcapetta4217 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Sam Burrell I have a trained eye; I've been teaching kids tennis for many years and this is not terrible. It is actually a very logical way to instill certain fundamentals pertaining to hand eye and racquet eye coordination, movement, ball control, and tactics.

      @CountCulture27 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Um, not sure what your educated eye is seeing, Sam, but what I am seeing is easy steps to practice volleys, ground strokes, and even playing points for kids new to the game. Kids need fun to learn. Trust me you give them success and keep the drills fun you'll keep their attention and allow them a chance to be passionate about tennis.

    tbh the drill is kinda dumb because this doesn't replicate real progressions or footwork.. kinda pointless. real technique and real reps/patterns are far more useful.
