I found this same camera in a case in a box recently. Not factory sealed. It was used, but not for long. Preserved greatly over the years. Battery still holds charge! All I need is a new SD card and wall charger & I'm good to go. Don't care about its age.

@tonicandchocolate Hi, Check the mode dial. RAW is only available in certain modes, for example, you won't see it if you're using the Auto mode, but you will see it if you're using the Program (P) Mode. I hope that helps. Thanks for the comment.
Yes, the G10 does have a My Menu. Check out the G10 section on my site and go to the buttons page for an interactive guide to all buttons and menu items.

I would recommend using a microfiber lens cloth and lens solution. you can find these at any photo or eye/sunglass store. Lenses have delicate coatings on them similar to eye glasses and, therefore, one should not use a shirt and his breath. Spray a little lens solution (not too much) on the cloth, turn the camera on to open the lens, and gently rub the lens in a circular motion. Hope that helps. LBGuides
Hi, The problem is most likely the file size. A 4 megapixel jpeg is 2MB, not great for email, but it will go through. A 14 MP jpeg is another story. There are so many programs for reducing resolution so you can email the picture, just remember to always keep a copy of the original high res. PC users can download Picasa from Google for free, that makes it pretty easy. MAC users can just use iPhoto, there too just select the picture and choose the email sharing option. I hope that helps:)
@punchmau you don't need any of the software that comes bundled with the camera. I prefer using 3rd party apps to work with the images anyhow. For example, the camera comes with a nice tool for stitching panorama images called Photo Stitch, but there are lots of 3rd party stitching apps out there that do just as good a job. As for simply downloading the pictures, you don't need anything your computer doesn't already have. Just plug the camera in and it should be recognized.
@kurakanier Hi. The difference between my case and yours is that in mine there is a lot more light. You're in a very low light situation and therefore the shutter speed is at 0.5" and 1". By using the flash, either with the flash set to auto or forced on, the shutter speed will default to 1/60 because the camera assumes the flash will provide all the necessary light. To increase the speed of the shutter, you should increase the sensitivity of the ISO. I hope that helps.

All my guides, including this one, are designed for beginners. Even though the G10 is considered an advanced point and shoot camera, many beginners buy it too. In order to keep things simple, I don't get into every function and menu item, including RAW. Anyone how is comfortable using RAW probably doesn't need to see my guides.
You cannot trim pictures captured in the S, XS, W, or RAW formats. meaning the only pictures that can be trimmed are high res Jpegs with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Also, if the picture was taken with a different camera, then the card was transferred to the G10, you may be able to see the pics, but you can't trim them. Trimming can be done in any application on the computer, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. As for close up pics, check out the video I have on macro shots and try that.
Slinky: I just got my camera and I don't understand why I'm able to trim some pictures and others it tells me "cannot modify image"..... also, I need advice on how to take pictures that are zoomed very very close so I can even see the hair on the skin. Oh, one more thing.. if I have a group picture, I'm able to magnify and display a small portion of the it but how can I save it?? Please SOS
I made some photos (JPG) with Canon G10. I put it in my computer and tried to send one of them per e.mail to a friend without succes. Seem to be to much information. What can I Do? How can I reduce the information to send it per e.mail. Wiht other cameras I never had this problem. Before I had a Canon with 4 megapixel.
My shutter speed in prgram mode never increases more than 1/60. This can only be achieved with large ISO like 800 and keeping the flash on. If I disable flash, the shutter speed is decreased to 0.5" or more. If I increase the ISO to lower value such us 80 or 200, the shutter speed decreases like 1" or more which is completely opposite to what your video describes. In your video it says if I decreases the ISO it will increase my shutter speed which is very opposite in my case. Please help
