I literally just ordered a Nepenthes last week from BGH, it's currently in the mail on the way to my home as I write this. I wish this video was made a few days earlier, but if I get anymore I will definately come back to this video. Thanks so much for making it! I am a completely new grower and this is what I ordered as my first Nepenthes, a small Nepenthes mirabilis var. Globosa x hamata. I have a large south-facing window and south facing deck. Wish me luck! I've been quite successful with my Dionaea, Sarracenia, and Drosera so am not totally new to carnivores.
Thank you! This was fun! I am also in Canada (Quebec) and I have 5 nepenthes from Brad’s growing near a windowsill with extra light coming from my orchids’ lights: Inermis x bongos that one took forever to pitcher! But OMG the color of the first one is fantastic! Pinkish with a green peristome when just opened turning red wine color. Then I have the spathulata you mentioned might not work for you. Here it is doing great! It grew really quick and gave me the largest pitcher, 14 cm long on this young plant! The third is talangensis x glandulifera. Beautiful richly colored pitchers but few of them this winter. Then, spathulata x veitchii, the peristomes are first very stripped but soon turn wine color. Better pitcher shape than pure spathulata in my opinion. Lastly, my favorite of all! Spectabilis x bongos ! Beautiful shape and marbling with a relatively large striped peristome ! Wow! This last pitcher has been opened a few weeks and the peristome remains beautifully striped! Again thank for reviewing a Canadian grower!
Unlucky that Canadians can't order from other places is North America, but big win that you get Brad's Greenhouse! Definitely jealous, though as a Californian I certainly can't complain about my options lol. Also- I've surprisingly got an aristolochioides x burkei that is super vigorous. It makes me think it could work on your windowsill even though its aristolo.
Hello Remy, The really nice one that are growing pitchers during winter's low humidity are the (Veitchii x Lowii)x(Burbidgeae x Edwardsiana) You can grow it between 40-60% And the pitchers will still keep getting bigger. Also, once the plant settles you will get a fairly fast growing plant. The pitchers also last quite a long time and the plant does not like too much light. I even moved away all the lights since the plant likes it a bit shady.
Mine is [(veitchii x mira) x (burbidgeae x edwardsiana)] so really, only 1/4 difference with your [(veitchii x lowii) x (burbidgeae x edwardsiana)]. Comparing them later should be fun 😊
It's funny how people say robcantleyi is hard to grow, meanwhile I grow it on my windowsill with around 50% humidity. A super strong grower, pretty much like a truncata.
Do you have a rajah? I don't know where the belief that it's super slow comes from. It's waaaaaaay (it's hard to put enough a's there) faster than my lowii or even truncata and veitchii. It's actually one of the faster growing neps I own, which surprised me because I was super scared of getting one and killing it.
To put it in context: my rajah grows a bit slower than my lady pauline, but a bit faster than my briggsiana in terms of leaves per time unit. And it's still small (6 cm). Maybe it slows down/gets picky with conditions when it gets bigger? But I don't know why it would.
@@WindowsillNepenthes Mine's a BCP tambuyukon clone. I give it a lot of light (8000lux for 16 hours), have it in Akadama/Kanuma/Perlite and feed it one osmocote pellet per pitcher. It's been in 24C/14C temps with 90%+ humidity all winter, which is close to optimal conditions I think. It's starting to get peltate leaves now. It will probably take a beating in summer when the temperatures rise. No basals though.
Hi Remy! Your videos have inspired me and I'm thinking of getting a Nepenthes. I saw a Nepenthes Spatulata x (N.pillosa x veichii) and I was wondering if I would be able to grow it on a windowsill since it didn't say anything about how to grow it. What do you think?
I sure wish brads could ship to us. I’ve been a big fan for a long time.
Nice Video Remy 😊
Thanks 😊

Thanks! Yes each windowsill is different that's why we have to try. Looks like you have a nice windowsill ;)
@@WindowsillNepenthes not as great as yours! You are a true inspiration !
@@chantalvillemure2595 Merci! In a few years you could be surprised how your windowsill grew haha
Thanks for this video Remy, I was wondering what varieties of Nepenthes would you say are not suitable for a windowsill?
From my experience, paper-thin leaf/pitcher species/cross are dodgy, and pure lowlanders too. ;)
@@WindowsillNepenthes thanks for responding!

@Windowsill Nepenthes There are two pitchers in the making right now. I will post an update soon. :)

@@HFeyn Really?! What's your conditions? Mine is super slow like a lowii. It came with 1 inch leafspan but with 4 basals slowing down the whole plant.

agree... as long as u have humidity and good light its a very fast grower same as hamata
F. I ordered the Nepenthes sibuyanensis x (veitchii x lowii) BE-3986 from Brad's because it was on the windowsill list. Sadge.
@@mjpersona it worked fine until it gets adult for me. Adding a humidifier should help later 😀
what do you think about nepenthes rebecca soper? its a cross between ventricosa and gracillima
It's a nice cross and a strong one too. I dont grow it but that's what I heard.
