Thanks SO much Eliz!!! I left a comment recently to our travel group about breaking in a new pair of shoes for the trip!! Can’t wait to see Italy 🇮🇹 and Greece 🇬🇷. ❤️🛳️
So fun! I actually filmed a few videos in Italy this spring, too, but I’m not sure yet when they’ll be out! Sounds like you have a fabulous trip planned!!!
Eliz and Derek , What a beautiful video from one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Harriet and i have been. We were there in 2018. As always, great tips, we plan to go back. Sending you much love and affection from Richmond, Va. ❤❤❤ Harriet, Jim and Yuki P.S. We would like to do a meet up in Chicago in the fall. ? Will you be available?
So glad you guys have been to Santorini and loved it as much as we did!!! I’m taking a bit of a travel break this summer to be in Chicago, and planning to start up again a bit this fall. But we probably won’t be traveling as much starting in mid November. So if late fall is an option we should be around!
Excellent summary of the top tips. We will be there next month so I've watched a ton of these videos and yours would be considered a Must Watch! We are in our 70s and been all over the world and never needed more than carry on, even when away for a month. A must have feature of our various suitcases is a handle on the side so we can negotiate cobblestones. We will be there for 2 weeks staying at 4 different areas of the island. As we are staying no more than 4 days at any one place we just need to pack 4 different outfits. Our travel to and from the island outfit makes 5. By mixing and matching you can get more "looks" with the same tops and bottoms. Happy travels.
Thank you so much for watching, and for the kind words about the video! It means the world! I really hope you enjoy your trip (wow four spots on the island will be so fun!), and I'm really glad to hear that all the Santorini-specific tips might have been a help for your packing process. 😀
Nice to see a video again. I am glad you highlighted the issue of the suitcase wheels. I can't stand the 4 wheel suitcases for Europe's streets and sidewalks. They are designed for smooth airport/train station floors only. Give me my sturdy "inline-roller skate" 2-wheel suitcase anyday! The backpack is also a great idea as an alternative. My opinion was proven in a 3 week trip to Portugal last August.
So true! They're tough in certain situations for sure! I usually have a four wheel spinner bag with me, but it's SUCH a pain on cobblestones, carpet, etc.! Since I'm really petite, it's hard for me to commit to a backpack (humans are only supposed to carry around 15% of your total body weight on your back for health purposes, so for me that's around 17 lbs), but I've always been really jealous of all of the people who can carry them!!!
Love your video and willl look for more from you. Very helpful. Please keep in mind that most senior citizens cant carry backpacks due to knee or back problems. thank you so much for your tips. Most I knew but it’s nice to get a refresher course! :)
Yes, I hope you can make it back someday for a longer stay! That said, we saw about two to three cruise ships per day anchored in the Caldera, so it's definitely a popular way that a lot of people see Santorini!
@@MeansToTravelI just got the backpack section. I use to live in Galway (in Ireland) and one day I was going to train station with a roller bag and my wheel popped off so I’ve learned my lesson
@@sams3015 If that happens to a roller bag, it's like an instant travel crisis! So sorry to hear you had that happen!!! Personally, I have a hard time with backpacks because I'm so petite that they are usually too heavy and bulky for my frame. So, it's a trade off, for sure! As travelers, we just have to know what we can manage, and if a backpack makes the most sense for the type of trip we're on. 😀
Really appreciate the tips going to santorini on Tues ! Will definitely not take my wheelie suit case and take my backpack instead and I never thought about the cobbles ! Omg I need to take comfy trainers. Thank you!
Great tip for finding a discount!!! We went to some pharmacies in Fira, but not to a Lidl. Probably depends where exactly you’re visiting from, and how cheap you can get SPF back home, but I’d say it never hurts to bring your own from places like Target or Walmart given the sunscreen prices I filmed in different Santorini shops for this video!
It's less crowded in May (especially early May when we were filming) than in the summertime, but it can still be pretty packed during the daytimes with the cruise ships are in port. Once the cruise ships leave for the day, there are usually a lot fewer people.

For Sun screen there's a Lidl in Fira, I believe, so you can buy their own brand, it's suitable for sensitive skin and not expensive and good

is santorini crowded in may?

Was your hubby not hot with jeans on 🥵
