    So glad I found this video. I've had an orange Seiko diver's watch that I really liked but it developed the same problem -- intermittent stopping. I'd put it on the night stand and it would have stopped cold, randomly. Tried your technique and gave it a tiny drop of watch oil, and now it works great! Thanks so much for posting this vid, one of my favorite watches is back on my wrist.

    Thanks for the great video! I have an old 6309 (made in Jan 1979) from my scuba days, and it has not run in years. I ordered the kit off Amazon, and took a look inside. On the first foray into the watch, I checked the rotor tightness, and it was fine. I took the back off the next day, and turned the watch over and the spacer ring fell out, plus a tiny screw. The movement started up! I found where the screw went, and buttoned it up. So nice to wear this classic again. Your video motivated me, thanks!

    You probably did fix your winding problem, however if it were some other problem causing the watch to stop, you would have to wait a while for the second hand to hang up. So rotor hang up or second hand hang up? You probably got it but you will have to wait until that wind goes down before knowing for sure. Nice little video by the way.

      @@AM2PMReviews An Update: I went to my local Seiko dealer (even though I didn't buy the watch from him....but he's a good jeweler and I've bought a bunch of Pandora stuff from him for my wife and daughter....) and told him what I suspected. He said it was either that or one other issue. Took it back into his office. It wasn't ten minutes later he came back out. Said the screw had backed out completely and the pendulum thing was just laying in there loose. He put it back together, and it seems perfectly fine. He said try it for a few days and that it's probably fixed. If not, we'll have to send it out. It could use regulating....it loses a minute or two per week. But he cannot do that. But anyway, I had the same problem you did here. Oh, and he didn't charge me a dime. Otherwise I'd be buying the $17 kit. Thanks again for a very informative video :)

    Thank you! Btw, how accurate is your Seiko? I have an old Seiko diver's watch from the 70's and my recollection is that it was accurate to about +/- 10 sec/day.

    • @AM2PMReviews
      @AM2PMReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i am not sure I have not tested it's accuracy but I would say it is pretty similar to yours maybe 15 seconds... I need to probably dial it in with that little lever on the back. I have 7 watches so i rotate them anyways.

    • @mikebikekite1
      @mikebikekite1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A chronometer (a mechanical watch sold for it's accuracy) is between +6 & -4 secs per day. A Seiko diver is not a chronometer so +/- 10 is acceptable. My own Orange Monster started out a5 +/- 10 sec per day and then, after about 15 years, it went to +/- 5 mins a day! Admittedly, the watch lived a tough life and I never took it in for servicing etc. I finally took it in when the watch stopped working (rotor screw) and the guy kindly adjusted the time keeping using a timegrapher. The accuracy changed to +/- 2 secs which was almost unbelievable. Sadly the watch has stopped again and now the watch shop is closed but, with this video, and an app for your phone (watch accuracy meter) I'm hoping I can get the same results at home. One thing that might of been missed off on the video was ensuring the gasket is clean and well sited. I also have an issue with misting on my watch so I'm thinking of placing it in a box for a week with one of those desiccant packets to remove any internal moisture - I don't know if this will work though.

      This is a false statement.
      My Seiko Samurai had a stopping, jumping/stuttering second hand fresh out of the box whether I hand wound or wore it all day long the problem persisted ... did this rotor tightening trick and the movement is working immaculately now.
      If your rotor is rubbing the case back then your watch isn't efficently powering itself. as soon as I removed the case back I could visibly seen the wear on the inside of the case back flipped the watch over without doing anything to the watch but removing the back and the seconds hand began to tick along flawlessly, gave the rotor a little tighten and all is well now.

    • @Inkreptile
      @Inkreptile 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TysonHook-22- lol I'm a watchmaker and no my statement is correct and the only way your problem can exist is if your watch is almost not wound and that would result in bad timekeeping and the watch constantly stopping

    • @TysonHook-22-
      @TysonHook-22- 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InkreptileWell I'm no watchmaker but I'm telling you from my own personal experience with my seiko just last week.
      The seconds hand was jumping/ skipping 10-15secs at a time if not more and randomly stopping all the time so of course it wasnt keeping time properly nore was it winding up fully because of the rotor rubbing issue... all the issues were completely solved by tightening the rotor ever so slightly saving me the time/money of getting the watch serviced.
      Since I did the rotor tightening last week, my watch is holding time +4-6 secs a day which isnt bad at all for a seiko. I'm saying all this so if someone else has the same issue as me... again, a jumping/skipping and stopping seconds hand they'll know this is a potential fix for it thats worth trying out. I seen this fix a stopping seconds hand with my own two eyes, so you can tell me whatever you want... its irrelevant to me, others reading this convo can make there own choices I'm just sharing my personal experience.

    Does anyone know how tight it should be? Can it be too tight? My watch is working now, but I can still hear the rotor.

      that is weird. I just did mine hand tight and nothing more and it seems to still work great.
