I love philosophical situations and I "ponder the great truths" routinely with patients. The question we must answer is, "Does a patient with healthy but unattractive teeth have the right to improve their aesthetic condition?" Think plastic surgery. Does a patient with a healthy, but unattractive nose have the right to correct the condition. The same with saggy skin or other unattractive physical conditions. Certainly we as health care professionals must decide if the patient's desire for aesthetic improvement is reasonable. If not, then we should not perform the procedure. If their reasons are valid, then we have an obligation to perform the procedure correctly, at the highest level, so it accomplishes the aesthetic and functional objective, including being long lived. This topic deserves a longer discussion, but I do appreciate your concern for your patients. I have the same concern. I play mind games with myself. When I am discussing treatment with a patient, I pretend the patient is my wife or one of my daughters. I will not perform a procedure on a patient I would not, in the same situation, perform on my wife or daughters. That mind game has been a good litmus test for me. I never "sell," I provide the patient with sufficient information so they can make an informed decision about what, if any, dental treatment they wish to have performed. Selling has no place in health care.
Bulletproof 383 Me, too. But I understand that she wants that A1 white that is so popular now days and it's for her job being on television. It's her career.
When I was a kid my dentist kept drilling down the side of my gum on the bottom right side. He did it over and over and it hurt bad. So I bit his finger LOL. Well, he could see he was hurting me for no good reason. I was a good kid and never did anything like that before but children back then were not treated as little human beings with feelings and they had no say. I told him. I tried. So I bit him when he did not stop. He looked at me like surprised and how dare I? He was mad at me lol.
lol i laughed so loud when i seen this comment.. I used to work in a dental office and it really does seam pointless unless your teeth is really messed up but some ppl get it and their teeth is fine.
Knowing how disgusting my teeth feel before brushing prior to bedtime and in the morning, I can't imagine never being able to brush my real teeth again.
As a dentist with 27 years of experience this is the best clip I've watched in porcelain laminate veneer preparation. And the way Dr.Cutbirth talks even people with not so fantastic english can understand the presentation. Thank you very much 🙏🙏🙏

My dentist did a veneer on my front tooth. He shaved so much of my natural tooth off that all that was left was a thin stump. He then had an assistant (probably inexperienced one) create a temporary crown on it while they waited for a permanent crown from the lab. Two days later, that entire tooth with the temporary crown broke off. The temporary crown wasn’t made properly and didn’t protect the shaved down stump of a tooth so that the entire stump broke off. Now I’m missing a front tooth. It was an awful experience. I would have rather kept the original healthy tooth that was just slightly discolored.
@@chilly2171 Another dentist used core build up to rebuild the stump and attached a crown onto it. I don't feel confident that it's that secure but it hasn't given me any problems yet, after 1.5 years. I might eventually need to do an implant
For three years, I’ve apprenticed as a dental lab technician under my father who is a denturist. I’ve watched your videos for 2-3 years and they have been most interesting to me, I appreciate the concise manner in which you explain information. Now, I have decided to go to university for Dentistry and plan to specialize in prosthodontics, and I must say your videos have been a great inspiration of mine. Thank you Doctor Cutbirth

This is the best tooth preparation for porcelain veneer placement. Porcelain veneer procedure is not a reversible procedure. Even if there were no tooth preparation, the veneers could not be taken off the teeth without preparing them off with a diamond burr. There are many reasons, both cosmetic and functional, why teeth are prepared this way for veneers. The preparation remains in enamel, so the teeth are healthy and comfortable following teeth preparation and veneer seating. If you are not a dentist, many procedures may seen dramatic, but just like medical procedures that are also dramatic, that is the best way to perform the procedure for the best long term and cosmetic result!
@@centerforard I mean, it makes sense! Like all clay things, even pottery, you want to make little grooves and lines for the bonding to happen and be more effective that just putting 2 smooth surfaces together. I don't understand how people can critique this just because it doesn't apply to them. LOL

So let me get this straight she destroyed her natural healthy looking and functioning teeth for fitting veneers just because her teeth weren't white enough. Otherwise there is not the slightest change in appearance except for the color xDD What a shame !!!
She is a TV personality. Her teeth are not destroyed. If done properly, veneers are as strong, healthy and long lasting as natural teeth. In America we see many patients who have dark, discolored, short, worn, crowded or other issues with the cosmetics of their teeth/smile that cause them to want to veneer their teeth. I see patients every week who do not like their smile for one reason or another. I interview all new patients in my private office prior to their dental examination to find out why they have come to see me and if the reasons are valid. If the reasons are reasonable, I do the work. If not, I do not do the work. Most of the time the reasons make sense based on their circumstances.
Dental Minute with Steven T. Cutbirth, DDS IT IS TOTALLY RUINING THE NATURAL TEETH 100% .. I had the same thing done to all my top front teeth, 8 in total, here in the states.. completely ground my natural teeth to cones and placed porcelain crowns over each tooth, in 2005 and I now have dentures on the top because he didn't put enough glue in the space around each tooth to make it squeeze out the excess when he put the teeth on and there were tiny minuscule air pockets that allowed bacteria and food in between the crowns and my own tooth that were left, which I couldn't remove with ANY amount of brushing, flossing, or rinsing, and about 2 years ago the crowns started coming off all of the sudden for me to find there was very little tooth left under them.. so there was nothing to attach there crown back on to. I had three front teeth gone in less than 2 days and there was no way to fix them because the xrays showed that they were ALL like that. A simple lack of enough glue and I had lost all my front teeth. I'm now suffering thru trying to learn to eat again with top dentures because you can't replace 8 teeth with a bridge.. its too many teeth, so a partial denture is the only fix unless you have enough money to get implants but I don't. The cosmetic dentist I went to when the teeth started coming out stated very clearly that this will happen to ANYONE WHO GETS THESE and has a SINGLE pathway behind the teeth for things to get into, even if it's a microscopic pathway, and he's beginning to see this more and more often with one tooth rotted under the crown or several if not all of them after enough years so please... you HAVE to get dental xrays and cleaning around the top of these teeth more often than you ever thought possible to watch for signs of this problem so they can try and stop it before it eats away at the tooth under the crown (some people call them veneers but veneers are ACTUALLY a very thin cover of porcelain attached to the tooth with no change in the tooths enamel meaning zero grinding on the tooth before the veneer is applied) if the tooth is ground down first.. they are crowns... NOT veneers... AND dentists aren't honest with patients about the difference before they permanently disfigure their underlying teeth forever... like they did mine. I had no idea they were grinding my teeth down to cones until they started doing so and then it was too late, but I've paid a very heavy price for that mistake with the loss of my front teeth so just be very very careful and attentive to these crowns now if you already have them so they never have these problems and find an excellent dentist who knows about this happening and can watch for problems. OR BETTER YET.. NEVER ALLOW ANYONE TO GRIND YOUR NATURAL TEETH DOWN FOR COSMETIC REASONS, there are other cosmetic fixes, such as REAL veneers, that DON'T require any change in your natural tooth. Period.
Luke Kuro yes... she totally ground down perfect teeth for these to be glued on. Read my above comment on what happened to me when I did this horrible and stupid thing too.

Wow! Sorry you had such a bad experience. I try not to place full crowns on upper or lower anterior teeth because more tooth preparation is required than for porcelain veneers and the upper and lower anterior teeth, especially the lower incisors, are small in diameter. Sounds like either the crowns were not prepared, impressed, fabricated or cemented properly or you drink a lot of Coca Cola or other soft drinks, such on sugared mints, or eat a lot of candy. Understand, Coca Cola is basically acid with sugar in it. Have you ever seen someone "decorrode' a car battery. They don't do it with just any soft drink, they do it specifically with Coca Cola. Imagine what Coke does to teeth, especially under crowns or other restorations. No matter how well the restorations are done, if someone is a big soft drink drinker or eater, the restorations/teeth are toast.
I thought the teeth under the crown or veneers are safe since it covered by porcelain as you said in your video. If drinking Coke and eating candy can get thru, then teeth is less safe with a crown or veneer because we can't brush those hidden areas.
@@centerforard i never drink coke or any other soft drink.. i'm a water drinker and i don't even give candy to my children so no... the dentist i went to was just an incompetent moron. Now i have full dentures thanks to that man and i'm not the only one in my town to have suffered from his money hungry ways.
I’ve lived most of my life with horrible teeth and always got made fun of in school. It has kept me back from so many opportunities. During the pandemic I was glad to wear a mask so it could cover my smile when I talk to people. Looking into getting 6 veneers and I’m not afraid of my teeth looking like that underneath when I’ve dealt with crooked ugly teeth most of my life.
Hey, this is America! Veneers are placed for many reasons, including cosmetics alone. I always interview patients in my private office prior to an examination to find out what is motivating them to have procedures performed, especially cosmetics. If the reason is sound and the patient is able to make a reasonable decision, who am I to say they cannot have the procedure? The boost in self esteem that occurs following dental restoration in patients who did not feel confident and happy with their smile is amazing! As dentists, we must make sure we are performing procedures correctly so the patient is still glad, many years later, they had the procedure. I am not casual about restoring teeth, either functionally or cosmetically. I always ask myself, "Would I perform this procedure on my wife, daughters or granddaughter under the same circumstances?" If the answer is yes, then let's roll!"
I agree once you start these procedures cutting away large amounts of natural tooth unless really necessary just setting yourself up for more very expensive repairs in the future. Veneers and crowns etc don't last a lifetime.

Dental Minute with Steven T. Cutbirth, DDS hey so Imma sound kinda dumb here but dose the process hurt a lot and also what are the after affects on you actuall teeth
@@spookeditz3519 I reccomend reading alot on internett, there are many people with horror stories, so you should know about it before you decide to kill your natural teeth.
I am having a bunch of dental restoration in a couple of weeks. While I didn’t understand a lot of the technical information, it is nice to know just what my dentist will be doing and why. It also give me more appreciation for his education and technical knowledge. I appreciate your videos.
It doesn’t matter if Vaneers are “are as strong as normal teeth” which I’d argue against considering they are porcelain, regardless, they only last 10 years. Destroying your teeth for fake covers is insane. Of course if your teeth are completely destroyed already and there is no option but to do something like this or similar then okay. But if you have healthy teeth and do this, your crazy.
Interesting opinion. Cemented veneers, using the specific procedures/techniques I am presenting, are very, very strong. We now make most veneers with lithium dislocate (e-max) and they are even stronger. Veneers are a wonderful restoration. I agree, if your teeth are healthy and attractive, no treatment is normally the best treatment. Sometimes that is not the case and for a variety of reasons restoration is the desire of the patient. Short teeth, dark teeth, yellow teeth, crowded teeth, etc. Veneers are not only beautiful and very strong, the procedure is much more conservative than full crowns. Only about 1/2mm of tooth structure is removed on the facial, interproximal and incisal surfaces. No tooth structure is removed on the palatal/lingual surfaces.
If the yellow of the tooth comes from the dentin, which is covered by the enamel and in the inner part of the tooth, the bleach often cannot penetrate to the yellow and bleach the teeth. In these cases, bleaching is simply not effective. Veneers are the only way I know to produce a light enough shade. These patients are not being "talked into" veneers, they are just weary of having yellow teeth and want a dazzling smile. Hey, it's America!

An extremely terrifying procedure to be honest. Thanks for the informative video! I don’t believe I’ll ever consider this operation but I have read about many mainstream figures undergoing this so thought I’d check it out, I learned lots about the process from you. Thanks!
Do not be fearful of the procedure. According to the studies, the prepared teeth are as strong as unprepared teeth because a minimum of tooth structure is prepared and the preparations are normally still in enamel. The preparation is necessary to produce the most aesthetic and strongest restorations.

Am 40 now .. being dentist for 18 yrs .. unfortunately, for a couple of reasons i started getting bored and really thinking of shifting to a different aspect .. however when i watch your videos, i regain some interest back in clinical dentistry
Fantastic! I love practicing comprehensive dentistry. I would not like a high volume, "tooth ache" practice, although I certainly support those dentists who practice that way. There is a need for both types.
Dental Minute with Steven T. Cutbirth, DDS He was making a joke saying that her care got declined, meaning you would have to stop at the preparation stage and thus, would be left with shaved teeth.
It's beyond me why people do this to themselves. But if I was ever to wake up insane as to grind away perfectly healthy teeth then this is the guy I would go to to get veneers. He's an excellent dentist.
My dentist did invisiline for 10 moths than suggested 8 veneers . I agreed to 6 . And I wish I didn’t agree at all . He shaved so much that I burst into tears and went straight to lady’s room crying. He also lazered 4 of my gums without any warning. My veneers look ok but I have so much sensitivity and discomfort flossing or brushing or bitting . They feel perhaps like dentures in my mouth even after 2 months. There isn’t a minute that I don’t regret having this procedure done. I prefer my natural teeth over this . I worry that now I have literally destroyed 6 of my own healthy teeth., for porcelain. Thank you so much for your informative video. ❤
I've always wanted veneers. But after seeing this. I no longer want veneers. I thought it was like putting up wallpaper. I had no idea so much mutilation of the teeth had to occur.
Do not be concerned. The preparations are still in enamel and the teeth are not weakened. This preparation produces the strongest, most durable, most decay resistant and most beautiful restorations. The restored teeth are as strong as natural teeth.

I see a lot of uneducated comments here. When patients visit a dentist, many treatment options are given to them. The patients are the ones who will eventually decide and consent to what they want. If it is not the best option, we guide them and usually prioritize their treatment options. This video is showing veneer preps and its a damn good informative video. As a trained dentist, I can tell you that cutting teeth is not our first option. If cutting teeth can be avoided, we will definitely do it.
Amen brother. As you can see by the Invisilign engagers on the facial surfaces of the patient's teeth preoperative teeth, she had undergone Invisilign ortho. trays plus bleaching in another dental office prior to seeing me. The issue in this case was her teeth were very translucent, which made them appear dark. She was a TV personality and she hated the dark appearance of her teeth. Veneers was the best option, and this method of "wrapping" the inter proximal and incisal surfaces of the teeth (Magne and Douglas studies) is the best technique for aesthetics and strength. The actual teeth are not weakened by the preparations. Once the veneers are bonded to the teeth, there is no going back and removing them, so you should use the best method initially.
A really bad decision for that patient, really you prefer damage your natural/original teeth to have a veneer on them? I think would have been better to just trim and mold them.
Veneers are as strong as natural teeth. Many people do not like the appearance of their natural teeth for a variety of reasons. We are fortunate to have veneers as a restorative option, because they require the reduction of less than a mm of tooth structure on the facial, interproximal and incisal surfaces. If a restoration is being placed on a tooth, some tooth structure must be removed or the restoration will make the tooth look over bulked and fat. With less than a mm of tooth structure reduction, the preparation remains in enamel so the bond strength is basically like a natural tooth. To the non-dentist, I know this looks like significant tooth structure reduction but it actually is not as significant as it appears. Veneers placed with this technique create a very healthy and natural looking condition and, as stated, are as strong as natural teeth. Plus the appearance of the smile is dazzling! It may not be for you, but veneers are fantastic for many patients.
@@centerforardYou can’t never compare a natural tooth to a veneer, veneers are always falling down when ever you bite an apple 🍎 or pizza. After 3 to 5 years gums recede and the original tooth line show and that looks ugly. You need more years of experience to see what happen to your wonderful veneers.
After placing hundreds of veneers over 38 years of practice I do not agree with you, if you do things correctly and take the appropriate steps, including proper home care and wearing a nightguard, but I certainly respect your right to your opinion.

I am confused about what type of veneers technique some dentists do as a preparation step of veneers. Some sand the teeth down a lot to make it SMALLER, like they shave it between the teeth, and some dentists just shave it to make it THINNER, not smaller, but they are performing porcelain veneers. Are these techniques from different types of veneers they do or just how they like to do it differently? I would like to get veneers, but want to keep my real teeth as much as possible, just make thinner to fit the thick of veneer shell, I hate it looks so small after being shaved a lot.
Whenever you place a porcelain veneer on a tooth, most of the time you must remove some tooth structure to make room for the veneer. If no tooth structure is removed, the restored tooth will look too "thick." Only about 1/2 mm tooth structure is removed on the facial surface of the teeth and just enough tooth structure is removed inter proximally so the veneer will "draw" or seat onto the tooth, like a paper cup sliding onto another paper cup. With this preparation method, the completed teeth preparation is still in the enamel most of the time. When a porcelain veneer is correctly placed on a tooth, there is no turning back! The veneer cannot be "popped off" the tooth. If it is to be removed for any reason, it must be ground off, just like a tooth being prepared originally. The teeth are not significantly weakened with the veneer tooth preparation demonstrated, and there are many advantages of including the inter proximal and incisal surfaces in the preps, such as more precise seating of the veneer, virtually eliminating inter proximal staining, decay or inter proximal dark shine through if the teeth being veneered are dark. There is almost always a small trade off with every dental restoration, i.e., cosmetics for maximum strength and vice versa. The good news is, as you will see in the porcelain veneer "Dental Minute" videos, the restored teeth are absolutely beautiful and, according to the studies, as strong as natural teeth. There is always the possibility a veneer could be broken, just like a natural tooth could be chipped or broken. Just as with natural teeth, you should be careful biting anything harder than a sandwich with either your natural teeth or veneered teeth. Also, be sure you wear a night guard when you are sleeping to guard against nighttime, ungoverned bruxism (teeth grinding). Find a dentist who knows what they are doing and move forward. You will love your veneered teeth! If you take care of them, they will not only give you a great smile and elevate your self confidence, but be long lasting.
Be very careful because i went to have 8 veneers and wound up with little nubs of my original teeth left and basically CROWNS put on them even though the dentist always referred to them as veneers... and he didn't get enough glue or the space around the inside of the crown wasn't prepared right or whatever he did i ended up losing them rapidly after about 5 years or so and had no tooth left underneath to reattach anything to do guess what ?? I now have dentures. And they are HORRIBLE. If that dentist had been honest with me or told me any of what ge was going to do other than telling me he had to take a TINY BIT off my teeth to make room for the VENEER and not the actual CROWN that he placed.. never said anything at all my post visits every six months about the teeth rotting away under those crowns... until one came off and he told me the rest were going to as well. This guy is horrible and he's not the only dentist like that out there so pay attention and ask the right questions.
Or you can get non prep veneers, I recommend if you have gaps between you teeth. You will have to be careful with them though but best alternative to real veneers.
She was not happy with the cosmetics of her teeth. She was on TV. The teeth were very translucent, which made them look dark. Bleaching was tried, but was unsuccessful. Veneers is the next step and, if done properly, produces a beautiful and very durable result.
Beautiful and neat but dr why u opened the contacts completely? I usually see veneer prep with interproximal finish line but not completely opening the contact..
You should prep the inter proximal surfaces for several reasons: Stronger restorations, more precise seating of the restorations (the veneers do not "swim," eliminates potential for inter proximal decay, no "dark shine through" if the presenting teeth are dark/tetracycline stain, no stain line in the interproximal. Refer to Magne, Douglas studies on best veneer preparations.
Dr. Cutbirth, my name is Sam and am an RN who’s been working On the frontlines of the covid-19 pandemic here in NJ. I’m 38 and have been grinding my teeth my whole life and now they’re at a point where the grinding has removed enamel from crown and my teeth have endured significant cracking and chipping/breakage. I cannot afford cosmetic dentistry in the least let alone a full restoration of mouth. I’m too embarrassed to smile and am very concerned about the effects this will continue have on teeth, oral hygiene, and overall health. Your work is amazing. Forgive my being forward and likely tacky but do you ever consider doing “pro bono” or significantly discounted work? Thank you for your time.
I do not veneer the teeth of every patient who comes to my office requesting veneers. I first examine the patient and, together, we determine if veneers are the best option or if something else, like bleaching, perhaps with a bit of bonding or Clear Correct orthodontic trays will accomplish the objectives.

Once veneers are bonded to the teeth, they are as strong as natural teeth and cannot be removed unless you replace them with other veneers. They are considered a "permanent restoration."
Hello Dr,am undecided on whether to fix porcelain veneers or metallic fused crowns.my Dr adviced me to go for the crowns but i fear future implications in terms of cost and excess removal of teeth surface kindly advice me on the best option
People are not getting it!!!!! The doctor said she is a TV personality. Yes her teeth were fine. But in that business. Perfect teeth ,although natural , may not look as nice on screen. IT IS HER MONEY AND HER TEETH. SO, PEOPLE shut up about why she shouldn’t get Veneers. Most Hollywood folks have something man made. Teeth aren’t that serious. Gee.😏🤨
It is a great procedure for anyone with unattractive or broken down teeth. Properly placed veneers are very, very durable and as strong as natural teeth. The preparation and impression techniques of the teeth and the cementing of the veneers are very important. These procedures are very specific and are not random. The procedure must be performed correctly not only for beauty but for healthy gums and teeth and durability. Every step is specific.
Dental Minute with Steven T. Cutbirth, DDS Yes, I saw a client who had a badly made Veneers. The dentist refused to fix it. She paid $700 for each tooth.
Hi Doc. Thanx for the great Video. A couple questions: 1. Dont you reduce anything interproximal between teeth 3-4-5 or do you reduce but only half way through the contact? 2. Is there any accurate way of estimating the prep reductions before hand in order to achieve optimal reduction size? 3. What are the indications/contra indicattions for veneers and what is the prognosis and longevity? 4. When will you record the other videos about seating veneers and anything related to that. Thank you !
P:s forgot to ask After prepping for veneers and before seating of porcelain, do you have to create a provisional crown or do you just send the patient home without anything protecting the preps?

Great video Dr. Cutbirth, thank you! I am looking to get veneers here in Michigan and wish you were local. Do you know of any dentist here in Michigan with your wealth of knowledge and ability? Thank you!
She is on TV and TH-cam videos. Her teeth were yellow and the incisal 1/3 was thin, making that part of the teeth look dark. We tried bleaching and could not achieve a satisfactory result. She had Invisilign prior to seeing me. I do not jump into veneers or any other restorative treatment without not first discussing and trying the most conservative treatments. Just like plastic surgery procedures, beautiful teeth are desirable for women, and many men, in the US. Based on the studies, and personal experience, this is the best, most durable and esthetic technique for restoring teeth with veneers. Read the studies by Magne and Douglas and you will understand what I am saying. For multiple reasons, the worst technique is to just place a veneer on the facial surface of the teeth. I think you will agree patients have the right to improve their appearance and this is what is necessary to achieve a nice result with veneers.
Whitening alone did not produce the result the patient wanted. Teeth bleaching is quite unpredictable, the effectiveness depending on how deep the yellow/darkness is in the tooth. Also, many teeth have thin enamel and are translucent which makes them look dark. This issue cannot be corrected with bleaching.
I understood about a third of this. I’ll stick to nursing but I would LOVE veneers even though I have good teeth already. I just get tired of bleaching
Veneers are fabulous if cosmetic or functional dental improvement is needed, but they must be done correctly. Thanks for your good work in the medical field. These are difficult times for your profession.
Hello dr. Smith. I am a licensed dentist here in the philippines. I am amazed to your shared dental videos. My practice became more aesthetically acceptable and predictable. 🥰🥰🥰 I just have a question on your video. Did you include to your preparation the interproximals of canine to premolars??thank you and see you.
Whitening with bleach is unpredictable and often does not achieve the desired result. Everyone's teeth bleach differently, depending on what part of the tooth is causing the yellow color. If the yellow color comes from the underlying dentin, then the teeth will probably not bleach very much. If color is the only reason for treatment, then bleaching should definitely be tried first, as it was in this case. Veneers produce a predictable result and many patients in the US want attractive, light colored teeth. Beauty and attractiveness are important in the US.
Patrice W. I saw that too. Maybe she just had braces before and the dentist forgot to take that off? Or maybe that’s numbing for the teeth? I have no idea :/
Can veneers fix slight misalignments? I have 2 crooked teeth next to each other, my lateral incisor is like a crossbite while my canine is the opposite, I don't know how to describe it, but the incisor is more on the inside, while the canine is more on the outside.
Don't be fearful if your teeth are unattractive. Find a good, conscientious, well informed dentist. Properly done veneers are as strong as natural teeth. Watch my video on, " How to Make veneers as strong as natural teeth."
My boss got hers done in turkey. I've heard so many bad things about going over seas for any plastic surgery. Even this type of surgery. But they look good.
are you under anasthesia for this? i have severely damaged, yellow teeth from previous horror story dentist visits and procedures, and have a severe lack of confidence in opening my mouth at all because of it. i have a massive fear of any procedure being done to my teeth while being awake because of this, but absolutely want to get this done.
Where are you in dental school? We have attempted to connect with dental schools, teaching the dental students these things they will not be exposed to in school. Most dentistry today is corporate "toothache" dentistry, HMOs and other high volume practices. If dental students would like to learn advanced, comprehensive dentistry plus fundamentals I would be pleased to work with the schools if someone could figure out how to make that happen. Dental schools have not been interested in the comprehensive methods I am teaching.
hi doc, what if patient has a small distal palatal composite on #6 or 11? Do i then just do a full crown on canines because i have to include that composite?
No, place a veneer over the composite. If the composite is leaky or decayed, replace the composite, possibly at the veneer seating appointment. Very informative video. Thanks for explaining why you used specific burs and also you discussed Invisalign and whitening before proceeding with veneers
In this case a dentist in Nashville had done Invisilign and bleached her teeth, but the final result was not what she wanted. She came to Waco and following an in-depth consultation regarding her objectives and previous treatment, we decided veneers was the restorative option of choice.
My kidneys are not worth as much as this procedure and I can't live without both lol. I wish I could afford something like this... I've been alive 33 years and I've always covered my mouth while smiling . It's like a natural thing to do now...
I have had that procedure but when I drink water or I breath from my mouth the modified teeth feel much more sensitive. Will that ever go away? And did the doctor do something wrong? If yes can it be fixed? Its been 6 months since I went to the dentist. Also great video!

We have been discussing restarting the hands on courses on 1)The Fundamentals of Dental Aesthetics and Veneers, 2)Anterior Crown and Bridge and Replacing Missing Teeth in the Aesthetic Zone, 3)The Differential Diagnosis and Treatment of Myofacial and Intraarticular (TMJ) Facial Pain, 4)Treatment Planning and Restoration of Complex Cases (Including restoration of severe wear cases involving full mouth reconstruction and increasing vertical dimension) and then the fifth course on our 5) Dental Practice System. These would be held on Fridays and Saturdays at my teaching center in Dallas (The Center for Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry (CARD)). To begin, we must have 50 dentists enrolled in the classes. These classes were stopped in 2010 following the economic collapse in 2008. We are willing to start them again when at least 50 dentists enroll. If you are interested, you can contact my office in Waco, Texas and speak with Bx.
I cringe so much whenever I see healthy natural teeth being reduced

Knowing how disgusting my teeth feel before brushing prior to bedtime and in the morning, I can't imagine never being able to brush my real teeth again.

Sorry to hear that! Over preparation is not good.

what procedure did u do afterwards?

@@chilly2171 Another dentist used core build up to rebuild the stump and attached a crown onto it. I don't feel confident that it's that secure but it hasn't given me any problems yet, after 1.5 years. I might eventually need to do an implant

When I saw them cut that gap in the middle I had a tingle all up my spine
If if is that good why doesn't the dentist have it done?

So let me get this straight she destroyed her natural healthy looking and functioning teeth for fitting veneers just because her teeth weren't white enough. Otherwise there is not the slightest change in appearance except for the color xDD
What a shame !!!
Sir with all do respect, veneers or filling will never be as strong as natural teeth and even filling or preparation is an insult to the pulp!!!!

Veneers and crowns etc don't last a lifetime.
tonytca exactly what i think! Veneers does not last forever like a plastic surgery. And teeth are more expensive then ps..

This person teeth was healthy as a dentist the best option was to do cleaning and whitening 🤔🧐🙄
Often that is the case, if that satisfies the patient's dental objective.

She didnt have to do anything, her teeth were perfect before...after the shaving part of the teeth it looked like a horror movie!!
She could have just gotten her teeth whiten it’s always people that have something good already that want to change it smh 🤦🏾♀️

Do not be fearful of the procedure. According to the studies, the prepared teeth are as strong as unprepared teeth because a minimum of tooth structure is prepared and the preparations are normally still in enamel. The preparation is necessary to produce the most aesthetic and strongest restorations.

I didn’t know teeth can be grinded away to nubs and still work
There are not ground away to the nubs. There is still lots of enamel on the teeth. No problem.

Imagine if your card gets declined in the middle of the procedure

You pay before. I guess you tried.
It's beyond me why people do this to themselves. But if I was ever to wake up insane as to grind away perfectly healthy teeth then this is the guy I would go to to get veneers. He's an excellent dentist.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time.
Thank you.
So sorry. I cannot imagine what occurred. The procedure should not be like that.

"Do you people know what an armadillo is?" hahaha love it
They may just be in Texas. I'm not sure. They are adorable and very strange looking.
Thanks for this amazing lesson, veneer preps always are intimidating for me,

😂 😂 That jingle is absolutely wholesome... Or is it a title sequence?? I love it "this is the dental minute" 🤣
Thank you. It's my favorite part of the videos. My daughter and her friends wrote and sing it.

Many ppl now dont even remove any tooth at all.
God bless you Dr Cutbirth

No, not if they are done correctly.
This patient’s crazy her teeth were fine but each to their own, great vid doc
She was not happy with the cosmetics of her teeth. She was on TV. The teeth were very translucent, which made them look dark. Bleaching was tried, but was unsuccessful. Veneers is the next step and, if done properly, produces a beautiful and very durable result.

LMAO
Don’t do dat.... DONT .... do dat

Find a good dentist near you and at least get a nightguard to stop the teeth breakdown until you can afford to fix your teeth.
Wtf Her natural teeth ald look beautiful. Well, its her choice tho. So no offen
I do not veneer the teeth of every patient who comes to my office requesting veneers. I first examine the patient and, together, we determine if veneers are the best option or if something else, like bleaching, perhaps with a bit of bonding or Clear Correct orthodontic trays will accomplish the objectives.
Excellent presentation. Thanks! I would like to know where Can I buy the gel anesthetic 100 mg tetracaine, 100 mg lidocaine? Thanks in advance.

What if someone didn't want them anymore!!!
The Dr was fantastic and smart, the girl at the end of the video scared the hell out me. Why she is on this video?

A couple questions:
Thank you !
P:s forgot to ask
After prepping for veneers and before seating of porcelain, do you have to create a provisional crown or do you just send the patient home without anything protecting the preps?
Prepare only half way through the contacts on those teeth. Watch my veneer videos in the library of DMC.com. I explain in detail why you do not want to include the interproximal surfaces on those teeth with veneers.

Great video Dr. Cutbirth, thank you! I am looking to get veneers here in Michigan and wish you were local. Do you know of any dentist here in Michigan with your wealth of knowledge and ability? Thank you!
Sorry, I do not know any dentists in Michigan. Good luck.
Her teeth were so nice! What have you done smh...
I agree, she could have just whitened her teeth regularly cos her teeth are perfect
You really overlooking those indents? Looked like she just had braces removed.
What do you think about Donald Trump's veneers?
I know the dentist in NY who placed them.
Dental Minute with Steven T. Cutbirth, DDS rosenthal?
Hello dr. Smith. I am a licensed dentist here in the philippines. I am amazed to your shared dental videos. My practice became more aesthetically acceptable and predictable. 🥰🥰🥰
I just have a question on your video. Did you include to your preparation the interproximals of canine to premolars??thank you and see you.
No, do not prepare through the contacts between the canines and premolars. Just prepare half way through those contacts.
Thank you. More power to you
Can’t she just get teeth whitening treatment?
That’s what we all say! Veneers will never replace healthy teeth
So y’all are really overlooking those huge grooves on her teeth?
Yes, veneers are great for mild crowding.
I thought I wanted veneers. I rather keep my not-so-white teeth. Informative and honest video.
Great.
are you under anasthesia for this? i have severely damaged, yellow teeth from previous horror story dentist visits and procedures, and have a severe lack of confidence in opening my mouth at all because of it. i have a massive fear of any procedure being done to my teeth while being awake because of this, but absolutely want to get this done.
I routinely sedate my patients with IV demerol and versed.
Thanks Dr. Cutbirth for the videos. In dental school and love watching your instructional perspective.
I have videos in the library of DMC.com on that method of treating that situation. .
