Great video, thanks Mel. One thing I noticed with my Starlink over the lovely English summer was that you don't always want the dish on the roof. We had some really windy weather in late August. I had placed the dish on top of my caravan using the supplied X stand. I weighed this down with a couple of weights. Signal was intermittent due to the wind rocking the caravan and the dish not being able to lock on to the satellites. So if you're camping in bad weather and there's a bit of space on the ground for the dish, put it there. Cue the 'caravan rocking' jokes... :)

Hi Mal just a quick update, we did the conversion as per your video.
We have had a major problem with the PoE injector trying to set our van on fire as there is no internal fuse fitted.
We luckily had a 10amp fuse on the supply so it stopped with just some smouldering, just something for you to be aware of.
Also it has knackered our Starlink cable as it’s melted the end connection, probably a stray voltage over the specified 48v

I live on a canal boat. I have a simple wifi modem/router. with an external aerial. All on 12v. Router was 20 Quid and the aerial was about 10. As long as there is a mobile signal (99% of UK has coverage) we have wifi. Just got a van and will probably just use phones as mine is not a conversion but a simple set up for occasional overnight use.

As ever Mel, thanks a lot for trail blazing this! I have had Starlink for over 1 year now. Take it in the van with the router too through an inverter. On sunny days the solar panel keeps up no problem. Is the 12v change worth it? Power wise, probably not but it is smaller and neater. I love the bracket you found on Amazon too. Will you travel with the dish on the roof too? I tend to wedge ours inside the van in the roof light and it works! Can't open the roof light though so the bracket is another idea. Thanks!

The inverter in all the "Solar generators" are not going to be 100% efficient (normally around 85% - 95%) so going to save on those losses and make the battery last longer.

I agree. I traveled around the UK for four years and spent one year in Europe with 4G working perfectly. Starlink's 65W power consumption is quite high. I leave my router on 24/7, and it uses only 4W. I have the RUTX12, which runs on 12V. My unlimited data plan from O2 costs £25 per month. In comparison, the base dish from Starlink costs £150 (we're now on version 3) with a monthly fee of £75. Additionally, having to place the dish outside for a connection is inconvenient. Yes, I've seen the flat mount, but you need to remove a solar panel to use it.
