First Wash in 24 Years! INSANE Transformation + BURNOUTS!

  • You won't believe the satisfying results and insane transformation that takes place with a FULL DAY of cleaning on our $500 Nova project. We got ourselves a HOT ROD with those big and little tires and wheels! This thing has all the attitude with its new tire and wheel setup, and it's a burnout machine. That 305ci V8 really runs great. I can't believe we took a 1978 Chevrolet Nova that's been sitting since 1998 and made it RUN and DRIVE so easily! Carlee and I had a blast emptying out 24 years worth of JUNK in the interior, and found some special surprises along the way. We even found the original build sheet for this thing...not sure how that survived all these years.
For the first wash in 24 years, we used a pressure washer INSIDE and OUT because the car was disgusting. The difference is pretty amazing. I think we probably should've worn Biohazard suits, but overall it was a lot of fun to see this neglected and abandoned Nova come back to life. It literally runs better every time I drive it down the road, and we celebrated the insane transformation with a couple of smoky burnouts. Yes, I still have the 5 gallon gas jug in the front floor board. The whole process of bringing this old car back to life has been very satisfying, and the first wash really sealed the deal...we've certainly gotten our $500 worth out of this thing already!

Yeah, its come up really cool. I think you should get that rust done, then paint it silver, again. It'll look fantastic with an interior fix. I'm sure it'll get the looks, or pass it on to someone that'll rebuild it. I like it. 👍

I had a 78 Nova in high school. Came with a straight 6 and we swapped in numerous motors. I have to say the most fun we had was with the 305 4 barrel that I got from a truck in the junk yard. The rear spring perch came through the floor on the driver side due to rust and the car got scrapped. Have fun with it!!!

Thanks for the memories. My first car at 17 was a 1975 Chevrolet Nova Custom (powder blue). Loved it. Had a 6cyl that was bullet proof. I drove it through high school. Then all through college. And a few years after that. Had 180k miles on it before I traded it in on a new 1985 S10 Blazer. It was a great car. Lots of good memories.

Hey Guy's, I just wanted to say. Thank You for filming this video and restoration of the Nova. I personally owned 2 Chevy Nova's. The 1st. Was a 1972 Nova, then a 1976. I really loved them both. Their awesome car's, when you put some love and time in them. My 72 was Midnight Black, with clear lacquer hand rubbed into it. With Gold door guards and Gold Pinstripes. It was an beautiful beast. Thank You and urge Daughter for bringing back so many memories. Definitely looking forward to seeing more videos on this Nova.

Taking me back to years past fooling with discarded cars with my Daughter. Our Nova was a 64 four door. Towed it home, drove it for 10 years, it saw 14 states and climbed Mt. Washington. She named it Rusty Whitesteed.
Her first grade class had to do a presentation describing a process. Amanda described plastigaging bearings, torqueing fasteners and the importance of clearances and oil film. Her teacher was flabbergasted.
That's not a hanging caliper, it's a rare factory optional line lock.

To save some money on cleaning supplies, a bleach and water solution sprayed on the lichen and mold will work better than the spray foam. I use a pump up garden sprayer and mix 50-50. Spray it on, let it sit a couple minutes, the mold starts turning red. Spray again, then rinse completely.

Build sheets were left, under the seat Springs, they usually are shot because the spring rusts right through the paper, usually can find a really nice one, between the trunk floor and the gas tank. Those are usually the ones you want, because they're in the best condition. I actually found one under the front passenger side carpet where the floor pitches up, right by the blower assembly, and I've actually also found one under the middle speaker, underneath the dashboard.

Cool car. My parents owned in the mid 80's, a brown '76 Nova Hatchback. Had the 6 cylinder, and well over 200,000 miles. Base model, no options. It had the full hubcaps and vynal seats. AM radio. The door frames would always break and had to constantly be welded back. It was retired and sold, without the battery in summer 1988 for $75. Getting rusty. Parents got rid of the old Nova for a new 1988 Mercury Sable. Recently found that old Nova in a junkyard that didn't ever crush anything.
