    What a great rally with such a diverse group of cars, interesting to see the Peugeot 504 at 47 minutes in had a Queensland club registration where you get cheap rego in exchange for limited public use.

    Another fantastic video Rick, I agree the original Ford V8 ' woodie ' , EXY 3 is wonderful and would be the one I would like to take home.The Rolls and Bentley shooting brakes were often re-bodies in the 30s or just post-war to make an ageing but durable car prolong its usefulness .What an opportunity at Bicester Heritage for a youngster to take on an apprenticeship to maintain cars such as these - skills for life !.

    These were briefly imported to the U.S.
    I really like the style of them. They didn’t sell very well, here.

    Thank you for another great video and for introducing us to Bicester Heritage Centre. As always the cars brought back memories, but none more than the Armstrong Siddeley Whitley and the Humber Super Snipe. My father owned both theses cars - a Whitley in navy blue and Super Snipe in grey. The things I remember most about the Whitley were the Sphinx bonnet mascot and the deeply scalloped front wings with an almost sculptural quality. His Super Snipe was a saloon not an estate car, but I remember the huge red leather front bench seat and how it was so comfortable. And you're right, the Super Snipe made light work of long journeys.

    • @oldclassiccarUK
      @oldclassiccarUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting, not long after I started driving I was tempted by a Super Snipe (four headlamp variety), chauffeur-driven from new and in the ownership of a lady of advancing years. Perhaps for the sake of my wallet it was a good thing that it didn't end up with me.

    Richard that old 38 Ford Woody is fantastic. I have a 48 Ford V8 coupe NZ assembled RHD so I know a bit about these US based Fords. Good to see it is a UK built one too, complete with side marker lights and add on semaphores, in Deluxe trim (designated V8 81A). The woodwork would be the most expensive thing to restore. Often it is only the termites holding hands that prevent a door or something falling off.

    The Standard looks like a mucked about Standard Avon. As a young man I had a 1930/31 model with a pointed tail body and a low v-shaped windscreen that was described to me at the time as being by Jensen. I googled it the other day, having seen the one on your video, and learned that one or may be both Jensen brothers worked at Avons, before eventualy forming their own company. My car was very much a sheep in wolfs clothing, with its long bonnet only covering the scuttle mounted petrol tank, and a deminuative 9hp Standard engine, the carburettor being mounted straight onto the side of the block, with I suppose an internal inlet manifold? Anyway although it replaced my then same vintage Austin seven special, there was little or no difference in the performance! I think like SS they made one with the six cylinder engine, that probably had a bit more performance! However when parked it looked the part!!

    You do the maroon 'Armstrong' Siddeley ,@ 50 mins, a slight injustice ! It is ,if I'm not mistaken ,a rare beast, a Siddeley Special , one of around 250 built in the mid 30's ,They were built to contemporary aeronautical standards and were powered by engines of 5 litres , with block, crankcase,head con rods ,sump, all of cast hiduminium . They were capbable of a genuine 90mph , and amongst owners at the time were such automotive cognoscenti luminaries as Sir Malcolm Campbell ....
    Worth considerably more than a pedestrian Armstong Siddeley today .......

    My mother was born and lived in Stratton Audley 1902 to 1919 and remembered Bicester airfield being built in 1916. The hangers were constructed by chinese workers who after work rode their bicycles down the village street performing all sorts of tricks much to the amusement of the locals!!
    She would have approved of its present use having worked for Morris Garages in the 20s!

    Cute fabric bodied Austin at about 1:30. That started me thinking. Are they much quieter than a regular painted finish over steel? I have an old driver-quality Studebaker Avanti, and the fiberglass feels totally different to steel. Sort of muffled...

      The thing about "classic cars" is nostalgia, and that can apply to a swish sportscar just as much as to a humdrum car that some people have an affinity towards, memories growing up etc. My A40 is hardly cutting edge or particularly noteworthy, then or now, but quite a few people are enthusiastic about them now. Thanks for watching!

      @@oldclassiccarUK Agreed, but the chaff should be separated from the prime at shows, we wont allow any of that "easy to own" stuff parked next to someone who has taken years to restore a car just for a "matey boy" to rock up in an old "modern " classic thinking its the star of the show , seen it for decades.
