Randy Johnson once again pitches a gem in his career against the Cubs. Randy dominated the Cubs in his career, since his rookie year in 1988, when he was with the Expos Today July 21 = 7 innings,. no runs, 2 hits, just one walk, against this great Cubs 2008 team and Randy not 100 percent at this point in his career. This was Randy final career game as a starting pitcher against the Cubs in his career. Randy has one more career game against the Cubs, which will be next 2009 season, his final MLB season, out of the bullpen, when he will be a member of the Giants. So Randy will finish his career against the Cubs with 15 games played against them, and in those 15 games (14 starting and one out of the bullpen), he went 13-0 with an ERA of 1.91 The only two times that Randy got a no-decision in his 15 games against the Cubs was in his last season out of the bullpen in 2009 as a member of the Giants, as mentioned above. And also on August 11, 1999, when he was in his first season with Arizona, and in that game, he pitched 8 innings with 11 strikeouts against the Cubs WOW
12:40 So Taguchi with another 9th inning clutch hit against the Mets, this time as a member of the Phillies 2006 NLCS game 2 and game 6, he had some big hits in the 9th inning at Shea Stadium off Billy Wagner twice, mainly that game 2 home run that gave the Cardinals the lead.
@@EvanEscher Indeed it was. And there will be many more of these types of losses for my 2008 Mets later this season, since their bullpen will be horrible this Summer
Its unreal how the Mets just dont win when Johan starts a game. Either - Johan pitches great but the offense doesnt show up - Johan pitches great and the offense shows up, but the bullpen blows it - Johan gets hit around
I remember watching that game on TV, and I couldnt believe that 9th inning. I remembered being all happy, that after all the drama and meltdowns that have occurred this 2008 season, and all the drama from their 2007 season and meltdowns, that the Mets were going to be in first place in the NL East if they beat the Phillies today, ahead of both the Phillies and Marlins. But after this brutal loss, they are now one game behind the Phillies after July 22 and tied with the Marlins. I remembered that many of us Mets fans and media people in NY were angry at Johan for not going out to pitch the 9th inning to finish the game, since the Mets were without their closer Billy Wagner and Johan only had thrown 105 pitches after 8 innings, so he could have gone 9 innings on 120 pitches
It was Randy Johnson pitching against the Cubs, and Randy just OWNED the Cubs in his career So Rich was destined to lose that game. But it stung that the only hit he allowed was the first career home run of a player

That was a very Mets-like loss

I had a dream one time back in 2017 that ESPN still used the 2003-2009 bottomline i still wished that bottomline was back or the 2009-2014 bottomline

Didn't happen in 2011, when he blasted the Cardinals out of the water and gave the Mets their first-ever no-hitter in franchise history
What a meltdown by the Mets bullpen.
