Thanks Chris, I purchased the BTT TFT50 V3 so the steps would be the same only using the TFT 50? I am hoping that the update will fix a problem with the BTT Smart Filament Sensor. I am having issues in modifying my firmware to work with my new settings. I have a BTT SKR Mini v1.2, BLTouch with offsets of X-48, Y-10, Z-4.68, BTT TFT50 v3, and the BTT Smart Filament Sensor using the PT-DET input (PC12). I can get everything to work fine until I added the Smart Filament Sensor. My LCD screen will send a message in the "Info" box of "Insert Filament and press button" but nothing happens then I get a message of " Heat Nozzle Press Button" The Filament sensor on the LCD screen is set to On. I recently heard that there is a bug in the LCD TFT that won't allow the sensor to work outside of Marlin mode?
Yes, steps should be the save on all the screens. I had not heard of that bug, but nothing surprises me. I don't have any knowledge of that filament sensor as of yet.
Great vid Chris. Question: @ 14:00 do I need to edit the TFT LCD firmware to match the size defined on my BTT mini v2 firmware for bed size Min_Max? - Would that be a conflict? Thanks man.
It shouldn't conflict. I am not sure what the TFT uses that setting for, but its not anything to so with printing. It must be for the leveling screen or movement key boundaries or something.
Thanks for this tutorial. i went through all the steps to upgrade my TFT35 and TFT70. While with the TFT35 everything went well by compiling a custom firmware, with the TFT70 not all the customizations (preheat temperatures, table dimensions for example) had no effect after flashing. Many settings like the changes display colors and language were set correctly. I have tried compiling several times with VS or Atom, the compilation was successfully but settings was not. Then, I add to the SD card with the TFT70 folder and the firmware the config.ini file too, with the settings I wanted and only in this way the firmware has received the changes. So if someone has an issue like mine try this way to have a personalized configuration.
Was gonna buy a skr3 ez and since i dont want to start cutting parts of the aluminum case of the ender 5+, i was wondering, do you still need access to the board usb and card connector when you get all those ports on the screen? Like pluging a raspberry pi in the screen usb port?
@Chris Riley I have a question ❓ I purchased a BTT TFT 70 V2 a few months ago and wanted to use it for a voron 2.4 with octopus 1.1. Well there's no bin file or anything, do I need all that if I want to run klipper screen with my raspberry pi 4 an octopus 1.1? Someone else told me that I could use the TFT5 inch firmware or TFT 70 V3 ,is that true? Or is it possible to create a firmware compatible with my screen using platform io?
great video, i got one of these thanks to you. got it working.. but i also had to modify the printer firmware, I still have one question: there is a ps-on connector there, would that by any chance turn the printer off after printing? if yes.. is there any tutorial how to do it? switch main power with ssr ? or something else? Any hint would be very much appreciated. Luc
Yes, you can use the screen or the board pins to turn the printer off via the firmware. You could use an SSR or relay to do this. I don't have a video on it, but I should make one.
@@ChrisRiley Yes Please!!! I forward that.. Because i cant figure out how it works.. I understand the principle.. If I use a Normally Closed SSR, the printer works.. and if i send 3 volts through the pin.. it opens, and thus switches off the power supply. That I understand. But then (and thats where i get lost).. as there is no more power, the board or screen doesn't send those 3 and a half volts any more.. so the relay closes again and the printer is switched on again.. The screen would send the 3 volts again, and that will turn the printer off again... again and again.. in an endless loop. Thats my theory, I know that I am wrong but i dont know why... so yes yes yes please make a video!!! ;-) Luc
Another great video Chris! Chris I have a problem on both of my 3d printers that I hope you can help me with. I have the BBT SKR 1.4 TURBO boards on both printers coupled with the TFT 3.5 screens. Now on my Anycubic i3 Mega S printer the screen was working fine in both modes but unfortunately some months ago the main board blew a capacitor taking out all of my TMC2208 drivers at the same time. The board was still under Amazon warranty and was replaced. However after some Marlin config changes when setting up the new board, my screen will not operate in touch mode, I get 'No printer connected' error when I switch over from Marlin mode. I can't think of what the problem is, but suspect that I may have changed something in Marlin which is now causing this fault. It is not the baud rate, I have checked that. Now at the same time as all this happened I was mid-way through customising my other printer, an Atherbot Brother, changing the mainboard and LCD to the same as that in my Anycubic i3. What I did was used the same Marlin firmware from my Anycubic i3 but just changed some parameter settings that were specific to the Atherbot. Now whilst both printers are working fine and both have BlTouches they also both have the 'No printer connected' error! Can you help? Thanks.
Great video Chris. I was like the ability to switch back and forth between Marlin and Touchscreen. I would like to order this screen and setup with my Raspberry PI 4. Is it possible to use this screen, Octodash and Marlin that way still have option of the push wheel?
@@ChrisRiley thanks for the input. After researching further I have order a 5" BTT PITFT50 and will run OCTODASH in conjunction with stock screen when I want Marlin.
The fun part Chris, is that the display uses an stm32 processor that is more powerful than those in typical printer mainboards. I wonder if the same thing could be whipped up using a Nextion display... A nice video Chris!
Nice details Chris. One thing I’m not seeing is the ender3 micro SD card listed, only usb and tft card when print. Not sure where I missed that setting.
@@ChrisRiley Thanks for the information. Glad I'm not the only one. Any idea about where I should look? Is it on the SKR Mini board firmware or the TFT? Thanks to you I'm digging deeper in to the code stuff, but a bit of a lost sheep. Thanks

Her Chris, I've gone through all your videos and appreciate your work. My TFT doesn't consistently control the printer or it has a very long delay. This can be really bad when bed leveling or baby stepping. I've double checked baud rates and everything else i can think of but always end up having to switch back to Marlin screen mode to get it to work right. Any ideas? Thanks!
Hi Chris. I was following this video to connect my new tft50 to my new SKR3 EZ but no matter what I try, I can't get them to connect. So I checked the pins and found the TFT50 has tx and Rx while the board has PA9 and PA10 which don't appear to be declared in Marlin. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. John
Those should be the correct pins for the screen. I would guess it's a firmware issue. Make sure you have the serials set correctly and the baud rates on the board and screen match.
Awesome.. I have the same screen but in 3.5" and at the beginning I wasn't able to make it work in graphics mode, there was an error like printer not connected (marlin mode worked ok). Every post I found said the problem was a wrong baud rate but in my case wasn't the problem. At the end the problem was in the marlin config, I had only defined one serial port, when I defined the second serial port and compile, the graphics mode worked ok (like you recommend it) ... The same message appears when I turn ln the printer but it last a couple of seconds and it disappears
I finally have a BTT TFT70 as well. My Mainboard is a SKR 1.4 Turbo. Sadly I´m not able to reach the Marlin menu. My Cables are plugged in as shown in the Video. The BTT Menu works perfectly fine (except of the "All Low" Error message at the beginning). When I want to change to Marlin it shows "Marlin" at the top but nothing else. In the Firmware I was´t able to set the Baudrate to 115200 because a Error message accured immedeately. Is the Baudrate the Problem or what have I done wrong?
@@ChrisRiley Thank you very much for your Answer. I have adjusted the Settings you suggested and it Works! There is still the "All Low" error message in BTT Mode but after klicking ok it completely dissapeares and works without any Problem.
@@ChrisRiley yeah. Some of the EXP1 & EXP2 sockets on SKR 1.3 boards were rotated too!! Always worth double checking so your board doesn't do a German Shepard ( Goes Woof)
Does board filament runout (so sensor on board not screen) work with OctoPrint and a screen now? Last time I tried a screen like this, it wouldn't properly pause the OctoPrint job when the screen was used. So it was either no screen or no filament runout...
Yet another great video👍 one note you can also copy config.ini to the sd card and have your settings changes made there instead of firmware. It's a new thing from BTT
Do they have firmware for CNC? I tried the MKS and though i was able to get 2 jobs ran it bricked at the end of the second job by freezing at 100% complete and upon shutdown all i got was black screen after that. i have an stlink cable coming but not fond of their closed source

Chris I know its been awhile since you have done this video, which is great by the way. I done loaded the zip file from GitHub but when unzipped and loaded into VS code there is no .pio folder. compiled file successfully but don't know where the bin file is now located. Any thoughts?
Hi Chris, I am having problem with my tft70, its no longer "touch screen" the screen is still fine able to SD card detect. It happened after I tried updating the firmware plus the theme. I tried to go back to the original theme, but to no use. I can't factory reset. Any advises to how to go about the troubleshooting? I did the wire continuity test on the serial cable and its good. -----SOLVED----- ITS ALL GOOD, sorry, and thanks for the videos. All i did was to add a empty RESET.txt file to an empty SD card, boot, and the calibration screen started, however i have to do a lot of times in order for it to work.
I don't think you would have any control over Klipper with one of these screen. If you could get it configured correctly there would be very minimal functionality.
So had my TFT 35 working well, but then got a "Flash App" error. Had to reload the .bin file but this continues to show up when I start my printer. Any idea what maybe going on here? I'm not always successful reloading as the error shows up when it starts to load.
I have a strange issue with my BTT 7" display on my HEVO. The onboard SD Card Reader will not work with a SD card adapter. I have tried 3 adapters to date, all work fine in my other two BTT 3" TFTs. The onboard card reader will happily read a standard SD card just not with an adapter. The display will boot with a SD Card but not with the same card in the adapter. Does anyone have any ideas? Chris Riley thanks for answering, i figured what was wrong, my reset pin (SKR 1.3) is on the oposite side than in the 1.4, so i changed them, and also for other people having the same problem, make sure that the side of the connectors that has the opening is facing towards the inside of the board, that solved it for me, it is now working, thanks for a great video and for tsking the time to answer.

Hey Chris. I have a skr 1.4 with the smaller touch screen. I would like to use the dual mode on the screen with ONE ribbon cable. I do need sd support from the tft. What do i need to do with firmware and wires?.... thank you
Thanks for this video! I used it as the guide for what i tried to do. On the BTT github for firmware it says that the screen can be oriented to 90 degrees if you need to so I decided I needed to do that to my TFT50. The process did not go well. The first hurdle was it kept failing when I tried to compile. Turns out I had to upgrade platformio. The nonupgraded version I guess has a bug that keeps saying file not found. Once I figured that out, it failed the first time but I hit compile once more and this time it was a success. I got the change listed on the github (uncomment "; DPORTRAIT_MODE") done and compiled the file, I saved all needed to the SD card. All included the new FW in the PIO folder, the language file the config file and the TFT file for the theme I wanted and the reset text command. Went up to the printer and it did indeed switch it to 90 degrees and could tell because all of the config loading was happening in portrait mode. It got to the bitmap files, flashed an error message but kept going. I figured out that it was looking for a "logo_portrait" bitmap file so I changed the name of the logo bitmap file to that and finally the entire process completed. I reset the printer and I had a portrait mode screen. So I thought. The screen moved super slow when switching between different functions and the font was overlapping and incomplete on several items. I ended up going back to landscape mode and leaving it like that.

Thanks for the tips!
Was gonna buy a skr3 ez and since i dont want to start cutting parts of the aluminum case of the ender 5+, i was wondering, do you still need access to the board usb and card connector when you get all those ports on the screen? Like pluging a raspberry pi in the screen usb port?
It would take the place of the SD card for the most part, but you would still need USB for things like octoprint.
I don't know of any configuration where you can use these BTT screen with Klipper. I'm not sure if Klipper supports serial controllers like these.
Great Video Chris! Do you use EXP1 and EXP2 as well as the AUX1 for a ramps board? or just the Aux1?
Yes, use both if you want touch screen and Marlin mode.

great video, i got one of these thanks to you. got it working.. but i also had to modify the printer firmware, I still have one question: there is a ps-on connector there, would that by any chance turn the printer off after printing? if yes.. is there any tutorial how to do it? switch main power with ssr ? or something else?
Thats my theory, I know that I am wrong but i dont know why... so yes yes yes please make a video!!! ;-)
Luc
Does this screen also have a resistive touchscreen? Looks like it, would be very 'oldskool'.
Yes it does.
Are going to do a video on the new marlin style tft generic displays? The new feature they added in the latest update.
I will look into it.
Thanks.
I think some else commented about needing to enable both serial ports in the configuration.h file.

Hi Chris. Ended up being a firmware issue and BTT provided updated Marlin files. Thanks
Nice, glad you found the fix.
Is you firmware set to use the reprap full graphics display? Make sure you board and screen pin outs line up, some are flipped 180 degrees.

need to do with firmware and wires?.... thank you
You would need and adapter of some kind. You will need pins from exp1 and exp2 to make this work.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Good luck with your projects

that serial configuration does not work with marlin if u compile it compiles with an error because of the -1 iv tried everything 2 get this touch screen working and nothing
It depends what board you are using.
@@ChrisRiley mks gen 1 v1.1
iv sorted it now
Does that screen work on the lerdge K board?
I don't think the Lerdge board support these.
I can see where it would be convenient. Just plain easier on the eyes.
Tell me about it! Thank you
hi chris Config Tronxy X5S Marlin 1.8 Firmware
Aibecy Upgrade BMG Extruder Set Dual Drive Extruder
how do i Config the stepper motor ? 415 please
I would just run a M92 E415. If it's running backward, flip the cable over.
What would make that perfect is a wireless tablet style connection to the printer.
Cool idea
