Since I have been playing with keys the last few days I learned a lot. Figured I would do a Spyder Keys 101 educational video based on what I learned. Hope it helps someone :)
Any professional automotive locksmith can handle this simple task. It is true that they might not have the blank in stock but they can get it in a day or two. The T5 chip can be cloned with almost any cloner. The blank can be held properly by professional equipment. Locksmiths do this for a living. Hardware stores, not so much.
Great video. It helped. In summary - my 2009 Spyder RSS has a key with T5 chip in it. Just go to your good quality locksmith and get your key with T5 chip cloned. This is old technology circa 2005. You will have to pay $100 for the service. But they will guarantee it will work.
Dont forget that last key can be lost in a moment! Also a 2008 to 2013 will hold 4 keys with different transponder codes (4 Can Am keys) but... you can cloan a key as many times as you want, and you can have a hundred keys if you like, but they are all identical.
Thank you so much I am having issues with my spyder, and I had to replace the computer and electrical harness, so now, it won't start because I was not aware of the rf chip on the key
Good morning. I’m in need of your help with encoding a new key for my 2009 Can Am Spyder SM5. Got a blank key from the dealer for $81 bucks and had it cut at a lock smith for $l0 more. Tired it in my trike and got “Bad Key” message on display. Dealer wants $110 bucks😢to program the new key. Can you help me with this? Kevin 😊
This youtube video was very helpful but it took me 8 weeks to get the blank keys on back order. Ace hardware in my area charges $90 to clone the key plus a few dollars to cut it. IT IS NOT FREE and they don't guarantee it will work. I told them I wouldn't pay that much and was going to shop around. Evidently not all Ace Hardware stores are the same. A locksmith across town cloned and laser cut my blanks for $20 for the first key and $9 for the second. Another locksmith I earlier called in my area refuses to even cut motorcycle keys and was quite nasty telling me so. When I asked him why not since I already had the blanks and it should be the same as a car key, he accused me of being an internet know it all. So if you go this route to get a spare key, SHOP AROUND. Ace is NOT the place in my area nor some of the locksmiths.
Bob thanks for the info, however, I now need a Master Key myself. Do you know of where I can purchase one? The site I did find is down probably out of business.
@@FinlessBob thanks sir. Appreciate the thought! No dealer will order it for me because these fools up here want the money to program the key. I just ordered the clone-able keys but they are on back order. The Ace hardware I went to up here stayed their machine wouldn’t be able to clone anyway. Again I feel folks are trying to get over on me. Oh well, I will not lose and will figure this out.
@@josecruzsr.1098 the guy I bought the key from said he ordered directly from BRP as a part. I think I stated the part# in the video try googling that number or go on BRP website and see if it’s in the parts catalog.
I bought a 2012 came with only 1 key I misplaced it cain't find it? what do I do now???? Please help. I bought wheel dollies that's how I I move it around....
Hey I lost my key..for my 2012 RT I call 2 motorcycle shops and they said I would have to pay $700 to install a hole new ignition! What can I do I'm stuck Please help !!!! Tony.
you bunch of kiddo`s , if you were in need of a key, short on funds , this was a pretty good informational video ... how to get other keys and mate them up , and what to watch out for { at ace }
As I said in the video LS wanted way too much to do it. And key copying is not rocket science! It's a simple machine. But some talent is required not some n00b that has copied a few keys before.
Not if you lost all the keys. Only way is what they are telling you. You have to replace the key switch and DESS computer. Had you had at least one key you would have been OK.

$100 today is a total rip-off in my opinion. Especially when you can get it free at Ace Hardware.

Awesome video. Local Ace did not help but had a locksmith cut my JMA and a company called pop a lock clone my chip. Works like a charm

Per the video. You need one good key and the red key to program a new key.

I bought mine from another SPYDER owner but my understanding is a dealer can order it for you. If you lived near me I would loan you mine.

t5 are not transponders, they are emulators.

If you don’t have at least 1 original key, then you will have to replace the entire ignition

I lost my last key how can I get a new key without going to the dealership
Go to a locksmith.
GEEEEEZZZZ.....short version please! where do I get the clone key, how much does it cost? Thanks
I have a great idea instead of going to ace go to your local locksmith and you won't have any problems at all

crap what happen to your helicopters mate??
Please save me
Had both my CanAm Spyder 2012 keys stolen. BRP Sold me the entire ignition & computer. 400 bucks plus
Plus gotta haul it 3 hrs to nearest dealer and pay them to program it all.
Surely there's another way. Haven't opened box for OEM CanAm parts yet.

@@FinlessBob are you the same Finless Bob who traveled with the RC Helicopter Events ?
Could have just gone to a locksmith.
Tony Castellanos yea sure.... Try it. Most won’t have this blank and if they also don’t have the key clone machine you won’t get anywhere!
