  • @sksum6621
    @sksum6621 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm happy to see you back on track, and i'll take this chance to ask you if a certain bike is in need of a much larger main jet then usual for the mods it has, if that is not an indication of a worn engine and that you must consider engine top end rebuild sooner than later.

    • @kevingalindo1
      @kevingalindo1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sksum 66
      Not necessarily, what determines engine health is compression. However for example if the engine has 18cc domes and is only making 120 psi, it’s tired and definitely time for a rebuild even though 120 is perfect for a stock head engine. That engine should be making 195 or so at sea level. The loss of compression comes from excessive ring end gap and glazed cylinders. This is just an example, as I have no idea what mods your engine has.
      What makes you say it has way too much main for what it should call for? What are your mods, elevation and current jetting?

    • @sksum6621
      @sksum6621 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      South Texas Banshee i've taken into consideration the main jet sizes that some bikes with similar mods end up with. When i've got my jet kit, ( stage 3, FMF & DJ), the instructions mentioned that the provided 340 main was for modified motors ( stroked, ported and so on) and that the 280 would work fine for my intake and exhaust aftermarket stuff. Well, once i've asked you advice for where to go in main jet size to achieve better performance, i find the engine perfectly happy with a 340 main and the stock needlle lowered one position from stock setting, for the following mods:
      stock head and compression; FMF sst pipes & pc2 silencers; k&n air filter on proflow adapter in a vented airbox; vforce 3 reeds; adv timing by 3 deg; and thats pretty much it. Elevation is around 1000 ft

    • @kevingalindo1
      @kevingalindo1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sksum 66
      Did that jet kit come with a needle as well?
      Jets kits are pretty much a Hail Mary TBH, they’re more a waste of money then anything else. It’s odd how they supply the jets that they do. For instance they jump from a 280 all the way to a 340, they’ve skipped 5 jet sizes in doing so.
      For your mods 340 should be pretty rich. Your on the right track by lowering the needle one groove because with that large of a main, the needle will bring the main on faster. So, by dropping the needle some you’ve compensated for that. I can’t really say what mains would be close for you with a vented box, I’ve never run that setup. I will say that with your mods and no lid on the box, anything from a 290-310 should be sufficient. All engines are different though and will require different jetting even if both engine have the same mods.
      A plug chop would be best to determine where you need to be. If you don’t want to do that, here’s what I would do.
      Keep going up on the main jet a size at a time until the engine no longer wants to rev cleanly, it’ll start breaking up. Then step down to the next size that it runs well. Stop there and call it good. You will be jetted rich enough you run the bike year round in winter and summer.

    • @sksum6621
      @sksum6621 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      South Texas Banshee my suspects of an worn engine arise from the difficulty in starting a cold engine, when some bikes featured on your videos start at first kick and they give an impression of a strong and stable idle right away, mine is nothing like that.

    • @sksum6621
      @sksum6621 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      South Texas Banshee and yes the jet kit included the longer 6 groove needles, but to be able to run them with the clip on the 4th groove, i need to drop the main 2 sizes leaner, and the performance ends up better at half throttle, which seems stange to me. I find the current setup the best, after a lot of trial and error.

    Hello Banshee master! Excellent videos, and super helpful. Id like to thank you for what ive already learned from just watching them 👍🏼.
    However i just bought a banshee that wont rev out from mid to top. Tors and handbrake deleted. Prev owner bought new stator, cdi, i think trying to fix the problem? I didnt gun it when i test rode it and should have😖.
    It has what looks like ported intake, t5 pipes, and supposed overbore? I will be looking at carb jetting to see what it has. But was hoping you could maybe point me in the right direction on what to check? It wont rev past what seems like half of what it’s supposed to. It has lots of low end power, but thats it. I have to switch gears way to fast.
    Any help id greatly appreciate.

      Did you find the problem? Mine is doing same thing. Idle is good. Bottom is good. mid is good. Nice and crisp. But when it gets 2/3 through the rpm it goes flat. Like it's sleeping. I'm curious what was creating your situation.

    • @arrepuess
      @arrepuess 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Floridawoodsbanshee yes! I never would have thought since letting the clutch out i would feel it bite. However under acceleration it was the clutch that was slipping. Changed the clutch to an R1 kit, and man it locks in and flies now. I guess it was revving out the whole time. Just slipping clutch.
      Hope this helps?

    have a 2006, never had a problem with her bought brand new. Took a 2-year vacay and she started up but wouldn't idle. Rode around for a couple hours. Then she wouldn't start. Changed plugs, and cleaned crabs. Then found a striped connector for the right tors. Started to turn idle on tors. That seemed to work then came a back fire and like a POOF of air from right exhaust. It started making that booging sound like rev limiter. started disconnecting tors and from the throttle. Still backfires and Poofing air from the right exhaust. Any ideas?

      step up to a set of 28mm pwk carbs. Can’t beat them. Don’t go too big in the carbs, you’ll gain some topend, but you’ll sacrifice bottom and midrange. 28’s will be great all around.

    • @kevingalindo1
      @kevingalindo1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny, the next quick tip covers this, well sort of depending on your exact issue.
      When you say it won’t disengage what exactly do you mean? Is the lever floppy? Does the lever feel good but when you pull the clutch in, the bike still goes or your not able to put it in gear without stalling the engine?

    • @JC-mn6qn
      @JC-mn6qn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It worked then the lever got floppy and when it goes in gear it dies. It's moving where it goes into the case but it won't disengage inside somewhere.
