    I agree! I have realized that I have not read many, many books that are on the "must read" lists. We didn't have assigned reading lists in school! But it's fun now to read through them with my kiddos😀 Thanks for sharing!💜

    I went thrift shopping this weekend and picked up some great books for daughter who I will be homeschooling for the 1st time! She’ll be in 6th grade. She doesn’t like to read so I’m hoping this year we will turn that around. Love watching your book haul videos!!

    For your niece, there's a book about Christians who stood up for their faith called Jesus Freaks. It's tough but good.

      I don’t ever see it advertised ahead of time. It just pops up randomly. Sometimes I happen to notice, and sometimes I’ll see someone share about it on social media.

    This video was such a treat! I absolutely love all of your literature picks and how you chose to display them for us! I've been wanting to read Moby Dick and Uncle Tom's Cabin, myself. I hope your girls really enjoy experiencing the classics this year.

      You are so sweet! Thank you so much! I’ve accumulated way more books over the summer than we could possibly hope to read in one school year, but I love having our shelves stocked with great literature waiting for us.

    Can you make a video about read aloud books you recommend by age? I’ve got a 4 and a half year old who is doing PreK this year (since she won’t be old enough to register this year) so I’m taking this year as a year long, read aloud year!

      I'm recovering from surgery and have pre-filmed the next few weeks of videos, but I will try to get to it if I can once I'm filming again! Perhaps I can even just do something on Instagram.

      This book is set in the 60s south dealing with hard but real topics. I remember loving this book. It will offer the opportunity to open discussions. Idk of you told us the circumstances of your guardianship and what things may be unmanageable triggers for her. This book includes a dead mom, abusive dad.

    • @TheHomeschoolConvert
      @TheHomeschoolConvert  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate the feedback! I definitely don’t try to avoid hard topics entirely. I think they’re important to address while our kids are home with us and we can walk alongside them in talking through challenging things. I’ll likely pre-read and decide the best timing.

      @@TheHomeschoolConvert I’m kind of excited this came up. I’m making a note to maybe include this…11th grade maybe? Idk.
      I love your book hauls and unit study videos, but you tube could really use more high school content. I’d love to see how her work week is structured, how much you have to do to set up independent work, how she actually tracks her assignments. I want to get 2 kids a bit more independent but I’m feeling like writing out instruction lists is super time consuming.

      As a black woman I can see how this can make a person feel uncomfortable. It’s language that can be harsh (the history) and even in common AA colloquial language. At least being aware of it (which you are!) and it’s not something that is to be said as it can be either offensive to a person or either ignorant and annoying! It’s really depends on the person!! If your children have questions just answer them or if the get curious just let them know! Yes, it’s a childrens book (trust me, I get it) but please consider reading through the book an whatching the film!! It’s okay!! If you have any questions don’t be afraid to send me a pm!!! It’s okay to be or feel uncomfortable!!! Blessings to you, momma!
