I disagree. Hiring Campbell, Spielman, and Holmes is what saved this franchise. If the Goff/Stafford trade never happened, the Lions would still be on the rise. They just would not likely be this far ahead in the process.
I say 2 things: Changing ownership from Martha to Sheila and hiring Chris Spielman even though he turned down GM. Those 2 events set us on the current path.
It was a perfect storm that starts with Sheila and every hire she made and the decisions made by those hires etc. Cleaning house after the Quintricia debacle and yes, the trade. ALL of it was integral to the sweeping change the Lions needed.
As a lifelong Detroit Lions fan, I am super happy that Matthew Stafford got his ring. He proved that he is the elite QB the Lions knew he would become when they drafted him. Now, we can move forward with Goff and look forward to a promising future with him as our QB and Campbell as our HeadCoach. It's the beginning of what is going to be very successful on the field every Sunday for the near future.
MCDC's culture and having the balls to fire an underperforming OC (a lesson he learned from watching Sean Payton refuse to move on from staffers who clearly weren't working out).
I bet he learned a lot of things from Sean Payton. The man was 1 of the highest paid coaches in the NFL at one time. He had foresight too. He signed a man with a broken shoulder, and won a Superbowl, and if it was for that no call at the NFC Championship game against the Rams. They would have gotten a chance to win another Superbowl.
He also got the year of the last playoff win wrong too. January 5th 1992. I don't know why that bugs me but it just does. When they say 1991, I actually get mad.
I have followed Goff since his first game at CAL, also when he played with the Rams and once he was traded I started to follow the Lions. I personally think he is the main reason for the Lions success, because when the chain needs to be moved, he does it. However, I do get upset because the media and a large fan base give him very little credit for the Lions success. When he beat Stafford, it seemed like if Goff was chop liver and everyone was talking about how great Stafford played, yet it was Goff who made the right place to allow the Lions to win.
@@gabriellavasquez9120 He led them to the Superbowl, not his fault that Gurley was a shell of himself after the injury and that McVay was out-coached by Belichick. BRAD HOLMES. This video kind of touched on his drafts but non-Lions fans most likely don’t understand the unbelievable amount of value the Lions have gotten out of the later rounds of all of his drafts
Dude is a drafting GOD. Its genuinely insane to watch the shift in Lions drafts. Going from busts through out 1-3, to having starters in rounds as late as 6.
Brad Holmes is absurd on draft. I saw the documentary that the Lions made about the 2023 draft, his work is impeccable. He and Dan are on the same terms and he has the necessary freedom of work from the ownership. Before his GM period, he had a ton of experience with scouting, over 10 years I think, reached director of scouting with the Rams.
Thank you so much for making this video, the turnaround this past year and a half has been amazing. No matter what happens, I’m super proud of them. Great video on their story and great job collecting all this info (Also just a heads up to y’all, Jamo’s betting was on a non-nfl sport, but that’s such a minor detail lol this video is still flawless)
What is totally overlooked in this video is what Lions fans always called for: change in ownership. During the MP era, Martha Firestone Ford ceded ownership to Sheila Ford Hamp. She put MP on a short leash, and fired the Boston Boys after the 2020 Thanksgiving game embarrassment. The 1st person Sheila brought in to interview for the open GM position was all-time Lion, all-90s LB, analyst, and brother of a GM, Chris Spielman. He declined the GM role, but she still brought Chris in as a freelance executive. Those 2 moves of ownership change to Sheila and hiring of Chris Spielman set the Lions on their current path. And you totally skipped over it.🤦🤷
I just want one more winning season. I'm 95% confident in the team. One more winning season will prove they are consistent, which would get rid of qlany doubt in them.
Normally, I am not fond of coaches who wear emotions on their sleeves (mainly cause sports media LOVES drama, and emotions are a big source of that), but Campbell is absolutely the right person to help turn this Lions team around. While future success is yet to be determined, the Lions do have a strong core to build around, mainly Penei Sewell, Amon-Ra St Brown, and Aidan Hutchinson. Hitting on your draft picks is one thing, but the right coaching is also needed to maximize the team's potential, and the Lions did exactly what with the guys Campbell brought with him. Myself, I think the real challenge for the Lions is whether they can still function as a unit without some of the current pieces. OC Ben Johnson is a name floated around for HC material. Jared Goff is a UFA next season, so the Lions definitely have to think about their next guy under center. Plus, with the core guys I mentioned due for a big payday soon, the Lions have to manage their salary cap properly, lest they let the wrong people walk, which in turn, affects team cohesion. Regardless, I am impressed with how the Lions have turned things around. All I can wish for is this Lions team to continue building momentum for the future.
I'll admit I didn't think Goff would still be in Detroit by now let alone lead them to the NFC championship game. I wish him and the Lions the best of luck this weekend and hoping Detroit goes all the way.
Always been a fan of Stafford and the Lions when Goff and Stafford switched teams it was the best trade for both teams. My Rams got their Super Bowl and Lions got their potential next franchise QB which has proven to be true. Was always a fan of Goff but McVay lost his faith which then caused Goff to lose his confidence but Campbell was able to bring that confidence back to him. The entire organization really finally build a great culture and roster. Hoping the Lions and Goff finally get their ring this season
