This song is so close to the core concepts of rock n' roll that it could easily be a Chuck Berry or Buddy Holly song. Everything he did was so effortless.
He is though, i always liked prince and bought most of his records, but it's not really until im in my 50s i realise the vast scope of what he produced. He must have been the most prolific artist of all time if you count original songs. There are so many artists that owes their claim to fame just because Prince decided to give them his songs.... And there were 1500 unreleased compositions when he died. And then im not even counting the fact that he could basically play all instruments and was a guitar god... So yes i do believe he is the best musician to have lived in my generation and even though he managed to claim worldwide fame, he is still underrated however that is possible but it is, i doubt everyone that listens to his music is aware of how many songs they have heard and never known he created them.
Like all of the covers that he created, the album versions are so refined and smooth. Even though you can how raw this performance was in comparison to say his performances in the 90’s - 00’s, this live version hits different in a great way. That’s the thing about his live performances, he would always deliver the music or the melody of his voice will in a unique way that would surprise you and make you think “Oh, I never thought that line could work like that!” There are only a few musical geniuses and Prince is undeniably on that list.
This Album was sooo critical ,based mostly around demos tracks it revealed a true vulnerability in Princes falsetto . It to this day is one of the most important transcendent albums in music history .
lol! I’m right there w ya! I love both versions. They create different emotions. Prince makes me contemplative, sad, but I still want to bop around. Cyndi makes me want to weep and it pierces my soul. Both amazing.
Prince fans should be PLEASED that Cyndi brought this song to light for me. ❤ And, besides, they were good friends and I’m sure Prince wasn’t rolling his eyes. 😂 He wanted her to sing this!

Almost british punk, i would say..
The replacements…kiss me on the butt
My only quibble is describing his work as "effortless"; dude worked his ass off.
@@briangray4640 we'd maybe say effortless because understanding music just seemed to come naturally to him.
I like Mitch Ryder's version better.
2023 still no one holds a candle to "His Royal Badness"!!!!! ,💜💜💜💜 from Mississippi!!
