The casino business in Macau has a much longer history than that of Las Vegas. Macau legalized gambling in 1849 after centuries of it being a thing. Meanwhile, Las Vegas was founded in 1905. So the title should be called ''How the US built its own Macau... but smaller'' lol.
Macau legalized gambling in the 1850s under Portuguese administration, establishing a long-standing tradition of gaming. In contrast, Las Vegas was founded in 1905, and Nevada legalized gambling in 1931, marking the beginning of its casino industry. Therefore, Macau's casino history predates that of Las Vegas by several decades. Referring to Las Vegas as the U.S.'s version of Macau, albeit smaller, aligns with the historical timelines of their respective gambling industries. @@usienwkdau2jfb28u4b
A video about Zaha Hadid would be incredible! Her style and designs have always been captivating and unique. I remember when she passed away years ago, and I was honestly shaken by it.
The part that always marvels me is the engineers that create the equipment on hand and on or off site to allow the architects reach their plans. I'm just watching them bend heated steel to curve their alignment (10:42) and you know that piece of machinery is a one of one.
Just for correct history, Stanley Ho didnt come to Macau with only 2 dollars in his pocket...he came from a prominent family so he had the family name and that helped him tremendously.
Also to correct history: Macau was an actual sleepy fishing village before one man took over, unlike another former colony that was a crown jewel of British empire when one man took over.
As someone from Macau, I can’t emphasise more about how many times I need to mention it is next to Hong Kong when mentioning my home town to my fellas. thank you for the video lol

The land where the Grand Lisboa stand was once a football field and the annual schools bazaar was held there too. Also just beside was a basketball court. I often play football there when I was younger.
B1M and Macau!? My oh my! Awesome job! Fun fact: the owner of the Morpheus hotel (part of a greater integrated resort City of Dreams) Lawrence Ho is the son of late Stanley Ho.
Stanley Ho opened a large casino-hotel called the Estoril in Tap Seac Square (named after Europe's biggest casino, in Portugal) several years before he opened the nearby Casino Lisboa. The Estoril was Macau's first modern casino-hotel, not the Lisboa. It closed in 1990.
Macau makes more money thru gambling because China support Macau gambling. Literally pushing all Chinese gamblers to come to Macau. And to say Vegas base companies coming to Macau because they can make huge profits is just plain stupid. Thats just business 101. Every country does it, as long as they see profit.
Many of the original big names in Vegas gambling have sold their Vegas properties and are focused on Macau. They either lease the name in the US to a different company or exit the US altogether. It's wild.
As someone who studied and loves urban design, your ability to go back to the very beginnings of socio, political and economic factors and how they affect a city while also comparing its relation to cities across the globe culturally is not only very impressive but very informative and easy to digest. Great video. Very organized, excellent graphically as well.
Macau 🇲🇴🇲🇴🇲🇴🇲🇴🇲🇴 mentioned!! *B1M should cover* this fun fact - Due to Macau driving on left side and China driving on right side of the road, there's a unique bridge ( *Lótus Bridge* ) that you'd start driving up the bridge on one side then leave the bridge on another side, which is a very cool design! ALSO yeh Macau has its own flag even emoji 🇲🇴🇲🇴🇲🇴🇲🇴🇲🇴 Somehow the flags in this video's footage are all perfectly blocked by the China flag...
I saw a vlog of Macau that stated that it might be compared to Las Vegas but it's vastly the opposite vibe. more of a subtle, quiet, and not chaotic and rowdy version of Vegas. No street beggars or performers etc. The gamblers are insanely rich and only just there for gambling and not for the periphery vibes that Vegas is known for.
The gambling world of Macau is much more than just Stanley Ho. I was surprised that you did not mention Sand Macau which opened in 2005, the first ever foreign funded Casino licensed to run gambling business in Macau. The franchise was later diverted from one or two to six gambling licenses that attracted enormous foreign money to build mega casinos, which shaped what Macau is nowadays as gambling capital of the world. Morpheus is amazing but there are much much more that you did not cover.
Nice work!😁I love the background information about the architecture, but you forgot to mention the laundry business, which also played a significant role in Macau's growth.

Great video. Macau is different enough to Vegas to be enjoyed in their own unique ways. Vegas has unbeatable party atmosphere, which really lacks in Macau imo. However, Macau is so much more family friendly, the hotels all have great facilities like water parks, indoor playgrounds and themeparks. And it's just much safer than Vegas.
Just a small correction here, but Morpheus isn't built by Stanley Ho's rivals, instead, it is built by Melco, directly owned by the descendants of Stanley Ho. This coincides with other hotels such as MGM Macau, which are owned in joint ventures with Stanley Ho's descendants.
