Most teachers of English, here in Bengal at least, are too Shakespearean to be real and in currency. You would often catch them saying phrases like "I impress upon you" in everyday conversations. This archaism gets faithfully passed down to their students and "grandstudents"... Even the much-hyped Sukanta Chaudhuris are no exception...

With an extremely limited knowledge of the language I keep on dreaming that even I would learn it properly in reality some day, because most of the English words known to me have a tremendous influence on my senses. They hardly fail to ignite, extinguish, excite, soothe, hurt and heal.

I don't know why this is my favourite word.
The word is "hermaphrodite" derived from the Greek word hermaphroditous, the son of hermes and aphrodite. The who murged with a nymph and got live like that for eternity. hermaphroditous is depicted as a woman with male ganetals. The word was used for non binary gender. It is technical term in biology to describe same cases in different animals. I got to love this word when i heard the story.
