  • One of the big questions I get asked is "how did you find out you have cancer?".
I will be sharing the steps that led to my diagnosis, but not only that... I will let you in on the 4 WARNING signs I was not aware of, that I believe could have led to detecting my tumor earlier.
My hope is to spread awareness for early detection for both men and women.
Thank you so much for joining me. I look forward to connecting with you more!
    All the best,
    Chelsey

Hi Chelsey. I am a 65 year old woman who was just diagnosed with breast cancer in early November with Lobular Invasive Carcinoma after a biopsy. I was told it was a small mass in my right breast and I forget the size but it was stage 1. I didn't even know from previous mammograms that I also had a tumor in the left breast, but this one was benign, so that told me not to worry. BUT, BUT, BUT, just to be sure, let's get a MRI. A week later, they told me they were wrong. The right breast has a very large tumor (once again I don't remember the size 4 cent, millimeters) I guess I totally black out hearing the sizes, and now I am told I need a mascetomy on the right breast. I can recall always having some feeling of a throb in that breast, but like you, I am a fitness advocate and I thought it had something to do with muscle strain. Only just in recent weeks, after my diagnosis, am I now feeling sharp pains, as if someone just ran by and poked a needle in my breast. My mother and her sister died so it's in the genes I hear and our breast tissue is so dense. I am now on pre-chemo (hormone therapy) for the next few months to see if the tumor shrinks. Please send me some prayers and love and light. It would be much appreciated, and my sons thank you all as well!

About 3 months ago I started to feel a stinging stabbing sensation in my right breast. I've had a "cyst" for years but I've never had it monitored or looked at. I finally got a mammogram with ultrasound a few weeks ago, they told me it's just a cyst and I have dense breasts and tried
to lean me towards monitoring it every 6 months. However, I requested a biopsy. It should be scheduled within the next few days. Ladies, please advocate for yourselves. You don't necessarily have to go by the doctors suggestions.

Hi, thank you so much for sharing your story🙏. I totally agree that it's important to advocate for yourself for more testing if you feel like something is off. I had a similar experience with the ultrasound and mammogram reporting a cyst, like you I asked for a biospy. They thought it was unnecessary, but I was thankful they performed it anyways. Also thankful they were right in this case. Sending some postive vibes you way right now for a clear biospy. Thank you again for sharing. Xo

This is a constant abuse of the system; being told we are "too young" to look into things! Not ok. Many get very sick without symptoms at all. I've had symptoms for over a decade and doctors haven't given me many answers, hardly any tests done. My grandmother died from metastasizing cancer, at 50 years old. Yet that doesn't count according to health providers when asked about genetic possibility.
I finally have a doctor that cares and is willing to take time to look into things. Selfishly I am sad to think of losing her when she becomes a mother! 😢 But I'm getting as many tests done as I can now! 😅 She's been shocked how much I've had problems even documented from previous scans, that weren't further analyzed. I didn't know what to tell her, forgetting how it became expected for so long to be shoved aside.
Let alone tests aren't 100%, people and tech is fallible. When I got a breast scan for highly dense breasts, the very young technician looked confused most the time, and then quickly kicked me out without letting me see any doctor.
At my next appointment, my PCP (previous one that was careless) asked ME if my results were good- how should I know?! Lol They said they would tell my doctor if I had any issues.
When I was a child I had doctors mix up my chart and my records with other patients which resulted in improper healing of a broken bone when they gave me the wrong advice.
It's a real mess. And now we pay more than ever and it takes so long. Perpetuating stress which worsens every illness and disease.
Thankful to brave souls that carry on beyond the struggle! ❤❤❤ And grateful for the wonderful medical professionals that genuinely care about making a positive difference!!!

I am 38yrs old just diagnosed with triple negative stage 3 breast cancer. My lump was very round, smooth edges and my obgyn wouldn’t do further testing as I was pregnant at the time but I kept pushing every month for further testing, at least an ultra sound and he would just say we’ll just wait till the baby is born. Well after baby was born lump grew in size almost tripled, went from the size of a blueberry to the size of a small apple. So I went to a different doctor and finally testing was done.. I’m really tired of doctors not listening to us and just brushing these things off especially with my family’s history of breast cancer and the BRCA2 gene mutation which this obgyn knew.. anyway I didn’t think anything of the lump since it was round and smooth, I wasn’t having any other signs either like inverted nipple, discharge etc.. please push for mammograms , they are finally doing them at age 40 now. I’m going through neoadjuvant chemo (chemo before mastectomy) therapy and immunotherapy. My lump is almost gone now! I love my tan of doctors for my cancer care, finally I have doctors that are listening. I’m about to do the bilateral mastectomy etc abs I have a now 8month old plus 4 older children so it’s been difficult. God bless!

I didn’t have a lump but firmness and I finally decided to get examined . I was sent to Kamloops for my first mammogram and ultrasound at 52 years old ( yep should’ve done this way sooner ) and the same day I was told I had cancer and would need a mastectomy and scheduled for a biopsy . I have both invasive micro papillary carcinoma and a large amount of DCIS . February 2 is my unilateral mastectomy . My advice to women is to get yearly mammograms ,I wish I had sooner . I felt a sharp stinging sensation in my right breast one evening just as I was going to bed, when I put my hand to the area I felt a small irregular lump. Yes, I had stabbing pain, like snapping your finger and it would be gone. Happened a few times over a few months. Also, my 2 nodules felt like a large stone about the size of a pinto bean or a jelly bean. They did remove the lumps and some tissue around it--diagnosis was invasive mucinous carcinoma..also removed two lymph glans negative, thank you Jesus. I am 69 and soon to be 70, so I chose not to get more treatment. My nodules were in the left breast next to my breast bone so, that put my treatment to be over my heart and lung and the treatment can be bad sometimes for your heart and - lungs so I chose to pray they got it all. I would recommend for people to learn all you can if you can handle it ! That way you can make a better choice. Doctors just don't have the time (and some just don't want to) to tell you everything. I hope and believe I chose right .... if not then it won't be my 1st mistake..haha. I only had an intuition that I needed a mamogram. I had not had one in 6 years. I did breast exams and didn't feel any lumps. Then the pandemic hit and I couldn't get a mamogram. I was delayed in getting that mamogram I wanted for 8 months. When I went I felt so sure I was healthy. I have no one with breast cancer in my family. I received a letter telling me they found an abnormality in my mamogram and I needed a 2nd mamogram and ultrasound. After the the 2nd mamogram the radiologist came out to speak to me and said I have a suspicious mass of 1 centimeter. I had to get a biopsy. She wanted me to make the appointment then and there. I had an inability to comprehend all of this and decide on that biopsy right away. I was scared out of my wits. I made an appt with my gyn and asked her for a referral to a surgical oncologist. That is how my cancer journey began. It's traumatizing and you can't believe it. I'm so sorry you have gone through this. You are very brave. We must be brave. We have no choice.

Hi Chelsey, Thank you for sharing your story. My experience was different I really can't say I had anything that was a sign or that something was going on. I was suppose to have my yearly Mamo and Breast Ultra Sound around on April 1, 2022 which would be exactly a year since my last one. My doctor does my yearly exams as a Diagnostic Mamogram which will include the 3D Mamo and Full Breast Ultra Sound because I have very dense breast tissue. Fortunately I put it off for almost 2 months and didn't have it done till May 25, 2022 this was also because the place where I have it done was fully booked until that timeframe. Had I had it done in April it may not have been seen because it was too small and I almost was not going to go that day because my stomach was a little upset, but I thought about how long it took to get that appointment so I made myself go. The first part was the mamo and when the tech came back she said she needed to take more images at that moment I became worried. Then they took me to have the breast ultra sound done. My breasts have always been tender and at times sore if they get bumped or whatever. So the Radiologist came in and told me they found something suspicious on my Right Breast at 2 O'Clock but they couldn't find it by Ultra Sound so I wondered if there was a mistake like the tech that did the Mamo didn't completely flatten and smooth out my breast which would cause a very bad look on the imaging I know this because it has happened before causing unnecessary stress. So I called the office manager and asked if I could come in for a couple of more images for my piece of mind. She got me in the next day in the afternoon I met with a very nice Radiologist Doctor and she had the Mamo 3D Image blown up about 500 times and told me " This is NOT going to change and that it was classic for cancer " the edges were starred and jagged. She told me lets try to find it on the ultra sound and they did. They didn't find it the day before because the tech was looking at 8 O'Clock how is that for confidence? The other tech found it right away she had to press very hard and it did hurt at 2 O'Clock. Then the Radiologist came in she found it and said "Oh NO this is not good it has a Halo and a blood supply" I just started crying. At that time an ALARM went off in my mind and I was on a mission to get that thing out ASAP I did not want to go thru the process of having a Core Biopsy AND something they say they have no proof of is that by going in and POKING at that tissue and pulling on it , making it bleed , when it's cancer I believe that would have not been a good idea and would have SPREAD it. So I went right away to a surgeon and asked him to get it out via surgically and then have it biopsied. He told me then this is not the standard generally patients come to him with a Diagnosis and I said "It's MY BODY and I want to do it this way !! " He explained that I was skipping a step and I said yes I understand and he said he respects that and that I may need to have another surgery to do a Sential Biopsy and if they don't clear the margins also having to go in and remove more tissue. Unfortunately after having my surgery on June 27th the pathologic report showed that I have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Grade Two but the good news was that he got it ALL and the Margins were all Clear !!! I also had access to my ultra sound report from the day of my surgery where they did the localized Wire procedure so I found out by looking at the amended report on June 30th the surgeon did call me later that evening to tell me but my mind went blank and was already in shock no one told me nicely about this at all but in the back of my mind I kind of knew but was hoping and praying it was not . I would like to share that I asked my regular MD to request a Second Opinion on my Pathology Report which I am waiting on. I didn't know you could do that especially for something so very Important mistakes do happen and they are human. I will be having my part two surgery this weds I hope that I got that taken out before it went to the lymph nodes they will be doing a Sentinal Lymph Node Biopsy Sorry for the long story but I hope it might help someone at least with the Second Opinion on the Pathology Report ....

@@ChelseyTarnow Hi Chelsey, No it didn't go well I ended up having two surgeries back to back. While recovering from the first surgery only 1 hour after waking up I started to feel a very sharp pain on my upper right breast. Finally one of the surgeons checked me and he said I am sorry but you are going to have to have another surgery. They missed a Blood Vessel so I was internally bleeding. The good news is that my Doctor/Surgeon yesterday said I was cancer free. I am very sore from have two surgeries They only found or took two Sentinal Lymph nodes both were benign That was pretty scary

I haven't had a mammogram in a few yrs. Told I have fibrous breasts. When I drink caffeine seems to have more lumps that go away. I started having pain in my left shoulder 9 months ago and I was lifting stuff and had ran over something with my car that affected left side of car so I thought it was muscles tensed up. Had an XRay done of shoulder and blood work done in ER to try to out rule other causes. They said .everything looks fine and referred me to a bone Dr. I did not have insurance but continued to have pain daily for the last 9 months all in that shoulder but I have had occasional pain in my breasts too..The pain seems to be more around my neck and collarbone. I have seen two Drs that both said..they think it's soft tissue related.. I really think I need an ultrasound or a mammogram.. I am a strong believer in Jesus so..whatever happens I am not scared but I would appreciate prayers! I am 51 with a 21 yr old daughter and an 18 yr old daughter..🫣

I had mild flu like symptoms (just not like myself) but figured it was due to age.... as my spouse always was complaining about the aches of getting old..... then as tenderness started where the lump was I thought maybe one of my small grandbabies somehow kicked me there when I picked them up. I had had a mammogram six months earlier and had received the all clear, see you in two years letter, so I downplayed that my body was telling me something was wrong.....I was trying not to worry but after a month of monitoring I made an appointment with my doctor. The lump was smooth and didn’t move, I remember calling it a mass, rather then a lump at the time.

I will follow everyone up about this in 2 days when I go see a new doctor at the hospital that I work at (I'm an RN in the emergency department.) my story is that a few months ago I went from having normal breasts that weren't saggy but weren't swollen and tight to having my left breast feel rock hard and painful (about a golf ball sized lump) I went and got a mammogram and they said not to worry that I was too young, but they did do an ultrasound and supposedly they found nothing but "dense breast tissue." Well now the pain is worsening and I would rate it about a 7 or 8/10. It's constant and the lump is now the size of a tennis ball I'm not even exaggerating I would say it's about 9 cm wide. I'm short of breath, weak, and fatigued. I want to cry because I just know something is wrong. In addition to this that has been going on since before. Christmas (it's March now) I also have high platelet counts (600,000) normal is less than 450,000. It was three different blood draws that have been elevated now over months time. I have never been more afraid. I know that God is telling me to get it looked at further and I have been sent angels in the form of patients and you tube posters like this beautiful soul... my patient said at only a few years older than I am she was also told that she was too young to be worried, and hers was super painful as well (often times women say breast cancer CAN not be painful but this is in true). Anyways, she told me hers was stage 4 when she finally got started on treatment and she has been living for years longer than they expected her to. I am definitely going to share my story if I end up being diagnosed with cancer or another type of breast disease. As a woman in health care myself it is so frustrating realizing how overlooked people's symptoms can be and how much doctors don't listen to a patient telling them something is wrong. We know our bodies, and I am going to be so mad if I had cancer all along. Anyways, I'm rambling now but the point is to say that I am going to demand an MRI at my appointment because I have such dense breast tissue you can't tell if there is cancer in ur breast with solely an ultrasound or mammogram.

My scan came back as echomotic left side at 9 o'clock and states "with painful lump, family history, etc. further studies are needed. I went for "the right side." Naturally, I am worried about this. I did a HERSCAN ultrasound seeking accuracy. Glad I found this group of women. I never thought my cystic left breast was a problem.

I’ve been denied twice for a mammogram. Discharge from both nipples mostly one breast. For years now. Weird pain under armpit that three doctors felt but my obgyn said she could not feel. I’m 37… I’m crying in her office . I’m scared. She said I’m just mad because she won’t give me what I want... I haven’t felt good for years since my c section. Unexplained hematuria since 2020. I only breast fed 5 weeks.. stopped in June 2021. She said it was normal. Sometimes it’s green. Yellow and clear. My platelet count is 500. I keep gaining weight. Losing hair. The inflammation in my body is high. Blood pressure keeps spiking on meds. Lipids keep getting higher on meds? I’m tired all the time. I’m moody. Irritable. Just told I have a cyst on ovary, small… but normal. Constipation but going everyday. My obgyn said I don’t need a mammogram and I don’t need one until I’m 40. Three years…. I don’t understand why it had to be a hassle. Since I have been told nothing is wrong with me and it’s all in my head, I scheduled a preventative screening only in another location. If it’s clear… then wonderful… if it’s not… I’m going to be mad I didn’t do something two years ago. Thanks for sharing your story. Hopefully my mammogram goes smoothly tomorrow with no road blocks or bad results … good luck in your future and glad you advocated for yourself

In hindsight, the only thing that was different before my diagnosis was that I was always exhausted.
I know my body very well, so as soon as I felt the lump, I called. By the time we got to the biopsy, the doctor was asking, “How did you even feel that?” I caught it so early that everyone was surprised.
That’s the best advice I can offer now. Know your body well enough that you pick up even a slight change.

Hi, few months ago i felt both my breast felt heavy before my period and then after my period i noticed my right breast swelling up, felt hot, painful, shooting pain to my armpits and discharge from my nipple. Went to my Doctor who gave me antibiotics and referred me to hospital. Went to hospital emergency as i couldn't take the pain even after having pain killers. They did blood test and fast tracked me to breast clinic. Finished my 1st course of antibiotics and at brest clinic they did ultrasound same day and took a sample via needle aspiration. That came clear. They put me one 2 more weeks of antibiotics which made swelling go but not the lump which is the size of an apple with sharp spot at 1 o clock. Ultrasound and mammogram showed very suspicious or cancer results but biopsy says it benign. Lump is not painfil and its still there. I get shooting pains and biopsy wound hasn't heeled due to constant discharge pouring out daily. Should i stress anymore?

Three years is not a short time. For cancer, that’s a long time. I have dense breast tissue so they recommend yearly mastectomies instead of every two years. I was diagnosed in aug of this year with breast cancer. I caught it myself too and got tested two days later. I had had a mammogram a year and two months prior to that with no masses or evidence of disease. But now I’m at stage two or three with spread to lymph node so it goes to show the importance of getting mammogram a year to two years max.

I'm turning 38 in one month, and I wanted to know if having numb skin from your armpit down your breasts and to your nipple is a sign of anything? I know you're not a doctor, but I am just curious if anyone has experienced the numb feeling on the skin before. It's on the right side of my breast, and not the entire breast.
My periods have always been very painful, but my last period was so bad that all I could do for three days was curl up and cry. I also have a curved spine and arthritis in my back that is excruciating, especially during my periods. I always have heavy flows and my periods are often irregular. I know I have cysts on my ovaries even though it has not been confirmed. I know my body enough to say that yes, the cysts are there and yes, they burst which causes even more pain. It feels like my entire pelvic area and my back are being pushed or squeezed inward (side by side and front to back). And it also feels like someone is taking a red-hot fire poker and jamming into my pelvic area. Especially my back. I'm almost positive I am infertile as well.
Anyway, I got a little off track there, sorry.
My breast is very sore and it has been for over a week now, but my period just ended about two weeks ago and I think I'm going to get it again pretty soon.
Even when I am not having my period, or the symptoms that come before having it, pushing on my breast does hurt, as well as the numbness on my skin.
My gramma had breast cancer, and her sister and her mother had it too, so that's why I worry. I have told my doctor about this, and he wants me to get a mammogram, but I can't afford to get to the city to actually have one done.
