South Africa is - always has been - a beautiful country. And that is movie from the 80s is good, interesting, but on the one hand... they must have hired a lot of extras to do those pre-rehearsed shots... Or, on the other hand, there was a reality outside the newspapers. The fact is that the barriers started to give way... just as there were more jobs and economic progress back then...
. Sure. Her 200m times were fast, 22.06 or .o7. 400m she only ran a handful, 50. 0 something wil , have to check some time. At the peak of her career, about feb 1992, she tore achilles. Was out a long time, missed 1992 olympics. Came back but was never the same. Cannot remember her age , but dont think she was more than 24 or 25. Roy b, CapeTown south africa 🇿🇦
@@roybean7166 Wow thank you for the info, I was reading that Evette often ran barefoot! 🤯 I'm just beginning to learn more about SA Athletics and athletes during apartheid. Sprinters in SA were not world class/elite but interesting to watch the races. Found this gem... th-cam.com/video/zhsmvLCIZPk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Vb7Ms_4EJRoqdtmx Also recently found out about Carina Horn and the embarrassment she left behind.
@@NevaUndaPressure Are you South african, if not where do you live. I can send you a lot of names and times of south african athletes from those days. A lot of top world class athletes from those days . Roy b, CapeTown south africa 🇿🇦
@@roybean7166 Hi Roy, I live in Canada and have been following T&F since I was a child. Comparing De Klerk to sprinters such as Ottey, Cuthbert, Jackson, Devers, Torrence, Privalova, etc., is not up for debate. SA Athletics during apartheid was not recognized by IOC and IAAF.
Ek weet nie wie John is nie, maar hy was duidelik nie bewus van Naas Botha se prestasies as ń junior naelloper nie. Min mense het besef oor hoeveel vaart Naas beskik het as rugbyspeler.
She was primarily a long jumper but I expect she did a lot of sprinting when she was at college in the USA, and she had this one particular 1991 season in SA where was also on fire in the sprints
Why did this show up on my feed?! And why I watch the entire video 😂 and enjoyed it😂😂
Ditto, lekker man, lekker

Man...this took me back. Love it...
The reason Evette struggled in 100 compared to her 200. Her terrible starts.
Yes, however her top-end speed is 🤯

That was some bloody start - Jesus! Did they do 60m indoor back then? She’d have cleaned up! 👍
Good point! No there weren't (and still aren't) any indoor tracks or meets in SA.

AS far as I can see Evette came second.
Jy is blindkyk weer!
The upper torso is what counts. Yvette took it by a hair. Watch the video frame by frame from 1:45, and you’ll see Yvette clearly taking it.
