Agreed. I stopped listening to Maiden for a long time after he left. I thought Clive WAS Maiden. I could get over Paul leaving sort of as "Killers" was phenomenal but so was "Number of the Beast". Clive seemingly had absolute control of Maiden in a way Nicko never did.

@@Dragonblaster1 I feel like their performance always has some magic. It clearly attracts you. Superb guitars, bass, drum, voice..Never disappointing you.
My dad is a drummer and possibly the biggest Iron Maiden fan I've ever seen (he's made one of their songs my second name), he was barely 11 years old when this performance happened, and today I am 21 years old and I continue to appreciate the band's works from waaay before I was even born, I never cease getting impressed by how timeless and legendary Iron Maiden is, they keep improving and getting better and better even nowadays, I know they'll be in history books for a really long time Iron Maiden was my dad's teenage favorite band, I've been listening to them and to my dad playing since I was born, and I hope someday I get to see them live and pass their legacy on to future generations ♡
During their peak, they were heads and shoulders above just about anyone. I'm surprised more people aren't into them. The only band I'd say had an edge to Maiden was late 70's era Judas Priest (1976-1979) ... one of the most creative streaks in not just heavy metal history, but music history 🤘🤘
"Tears flow but why am i crying After all im not afraid of dying Dont i believe that there never is an end?" This is so fucking deep and well written i cant get enough
Unfortunately they didn't write it. They stole it from a band called Becket and got sued over it. Really hit me hard, didn't think they would do such a thing.
"When you know that your time is close at hand Maybe then you'll begin to understand Life down here is just a strange illusion" This is the real line from this amazing song that not enough people comprehend.
This would never be this tight again. Two words. CLIVE BURR!! The pocket is so huge and steady. It's just brilliant but never sounded the same after he left the band. That right hand during the first half of the song was his trademark! Just so perfect and so gloriously powerful. Bruce was untouchable here!!!
I completely agree, and yet, I have to say - while Clive keeps it as tight as a pull of a black hole, Nicko stretches it, bends it and swings it just like you're riding the black hole's event horizon itself. Both are incredibly awe-inspiring when it comes to playing this song. th-cam.com/video/_ToPD_KDU-I/w-d-xo.html - this is absolutely otherworldly.
Clive Burr. You are living forever because of this. What a marvelous drummer you was. You bring the soul of this song with your mates. Drumming and making your own melody into this masterpiece. R.I.P.
@@D-Day-fb3pw Can ANYONE dislike this performance? When someone is doubting my taste in music I just show them this song haha. Most of my friends who aren't even metalheads still think this song is awesome. When I met my girlfriend 3 years ago she didn't like metal at all, but when I blasted this song in the car a couple of times she grew to love it. Since then I've brought her to both Maiden and Metallica concerts and she loved every second of it lmao
well I love this song too, but "the best piece of music ever written" is a bit over the top? Aside from that being very subjective I think it is hard to argue that musically speaking there are better written songs than probably any Iron Maiden song or for that matter probably any contemporary music piece.
This is the song that got me into metal. I used to think it was too much screaming but I heard this song and it was more soft than most metal songs, so I liked this song and decided to check more of Iron Maiden. Thank you Iron Maiden for getting me into this awesome genre.
The best Maiden song ever... the best metal song ever! The best version! And I was there! If I need a music rush, ever, I pull up Hallowed Be Thy Name on my iPod. Try not head-banging and air-guitaring to this, I dare you. Dave and Adrian on Gibson Explorers, and the underrated Clive Burr on drums (much though I love Nicko). Fantastic! A Maidenhead to the day I die.
@@RPMCanes: Not dead, it's just moved into genres that don't get much radio airplay. You have to go looking for it nowadays, it doesn't get delivered to you anymore.

Hey man, your spot on.. I saw them for the first time in Providence Rhode Island in 86 or 1987, there were no cell phones then either, unless you were a preppie spoiled rich kid who ran back out to his girlfriends dads car to throw up his peppermint schnapps and pass out, and go to school a couple of days later and tell everyone it was the fucking balls of a show!!!! 🤘
6:13 I will never not get goosebumps during these final lines. Like the whole song exists only to build up to that final exclamation. And Bruce absolutely destroys it live. I love this version over the recording. From a storytelling and songwriting perspective, this song is unmatched. The instrumentation mirrors the lyrics and the psyche of the speaker as it grows more and more uneasy. If you read the lyrics, if you pay attention to the guitars and drums and bass building and building in their tempo and aggression to this point, you begin to realize how important these final lines are and how Bruce's delivery makes it so perfect. The speaker begins the song afraid of death, doubtful of God's existence, then he spirals into despair asking-if he exists-why God's allowed this to happen to him. By the end of the song he has an epiphany, a revelation, and as he's about to die, he reliquishes all his doubts and accepts his fate, finally wailing in guttural, primal submission: "HALLOWED BE THY NAME!" Goosebumps. Every time.
Wow, you know what? I love this song and have listened to countless times, but your comment opened a new dimension to the song and just adds another brilliant layer to it! Thanks dude, Thanks!
lmfao I shit you not, I get goosebumps during the entire time and the end is just the climax where I can finally die in peace knowing I've lead a good life
skyguitar Thanks! Haven't listened to it in a while in all honesty, but when I was younger it was hands-down my favorite album to listen to on loop haha. Sorry for the late reply, YT didn't alert me for some dumb reason. Cheers mate!
I remember "air drumming" to this song over 30 years ago. It's amazing to just now find out that Clive played the 16th note hi-hat pattern with just his right hand. I always thought he "fanned" it with two hands on the hats, but check out 3:49: clearly shows one hand playing the pattern. Drummers, ever try playing that with one hand, at this tempo and volume, on 15" heavy high hats, especially near the end of a show? My right arm would've fallen off! RIP Clive, you were one bad-ass on the tubs and blades.
Scott Woods Holy shit, people like you are an intellectual detriment to the Maiden fanbase. Please stop spreading your idiocy around. And that's got to be the worst comeback I've heard in my life. All you do is insult Bruce and Nicko from behind a keyboard. If you told your bullshit to Bruce in person, he'd probably beat the fucking shit out of your empty skull. He and Nicko make Maiden the great band it is today, just as great as when Clive was their drummer. I'd be glad to tell it to your face, but you sound like an asshole Brit who rarely exits his mold-ridden basement, and I have no intention of crossing the Atlantic to talk to dipshits like you.
Scott Woods different styles, written in different times... Nicko is pretty dope too cuz he puts his own style into something... I mean I've been drumming for a while and I'm not going to play Metallica's Enter Sandman by the book! I'm fucking around with time and making it my own.
This performance for me is the absolute pinnacle of music. If I had to pick a favorite song, it would be this performance of this song. Absolutely goosebump-inducing.

yeah, hes had other great performances but this is hands down the best, both for Bruce and the rest of the band. The note hold on the word low and than the transition scream. Then the final hallowed be thy name and note hold are the best.

Agreed. I stopped listening to Maiden for a long time after he left. I thought Clive WAS Maiden. I could get over Paul leaving sort of as "Killers" was phenomenal but so was "Number of the Beast". Clive seemingly had absolute control of Maiden in a way Nicko never did.

My dad is a drummer and possibly the biggest Iron Maiden fan I've ever seen (he's made one of their songs my second name), he was barely 11 years old when this performance happened, and today I am 21 years old and I continue to appreciate the band's works from waaay before I was even born, I never cease getting impressed by how timeless and legendary Iron Maiden is, they keep improving and getting better and better even nowadays, I know they'll be in history books for a really long time
Iron Maiden was my dad's teenage favorite band, I've been listening to them and to my dad playing since I was born, and I hope someday I get to see them live and pass their legacy on to future generations ♡

What city was this??
This would never be this tight again. Two words. CLIVE BURR!! The pocket is so huge and steady. It's just brilliant but never sounded the same after he left the band. That right hand during the first half of the song was his trademark! Just so perfect and so gloriously powerful. Bruce was untouchable here!!!
Could be maidens best ever live performance, Bruce sounds incredible!

@@D-Day-fb3pw Can ANYONE dislike this performance? When someone is doubting my taste in music I just show them this song haha. Most of my friends who aren't even metalheads still think this song is awesome. Since then I've brought her to both Maiden and Metallica concerts and she loved every second of it lmao
Same here. The best metal song ever. Way better than all trash metal songs.

well I love this song too, but "the best piece of music ever written" is a bit over the top? Aside from that being very subjective I think it is hard to argue that musically speaking there are better written songs than probably any Iron Maiden song or for that matter probably any contemporary music piece.
This is the song that got me into metal. I used to think it was too much screaming but I heard this song and it was more soft than most metal songs, so I liked this song and decided to check more of Iron Maiden. Thank you Iron Maiden for getting me into this awesome genre.

Dave and Adrian on Gibson Explorers, and the underrated Clive Burr on drums (much though I love Nicko). Fantastic!
A Maidenhead to the day I die.
Alastair Archibald I agree, but for the record those are Ibanez Destroyers lol
+Alex Moon It's weird. They feel the same in hand, sound the same in tone, but they feel so much different from each other.
Jesse Kunkowski I always liked the feel of Destroyers better however. The Explorers feel kinda like babies first radical guitar shape lol

The power and beauty of this song will never fade
By the end of the song he has an epiphany, a revelation, and as he's about to die, he reliquishes all his doubts and accepts his fate, finally wailing in guttural, primal submission: "HALLOWED BE THY NAME!"
Goosebumps. Every time.
Wow, you know what? I love this song and have listened to countless times, but your comment opened a new dimension to the song and just adds another brilliant layer to it! Thanks dude, Thanks!

***** Nicko completely slops his way through Clive's songs. He's not even in the same stratosphere as Clive.

Scott Woods I'm good man, but thanks for the concern.

"Hallowed Be Thy Name"
I'm waiting in my cold cell, when the bell begins to chime
Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time
'Cause at 5 o'clock they take me to the Gallows Pole
The sands of time for me are running low
Running low
When the priest comes to read me the last rites
I take a look through the bars at the last sights
Of a world that has gone very wrong for me
Can it be that there's some sort of an error
Hard to stop the surmounting terror
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?
Somebody please tell me that I'm dreaming
It's not easy to stop from screaming
But words escape me when I try to speak
Tears flow but why am I crying?
After all I am not afraid of dying
Don't I believe that there never is an end?
As the guards march me out to the courtyard
Somebody cries from a cell "God be with you"
If there's a God then why has he let me go?
As I walk all my life drifts before me
And though the end is near I'm not sorry
Catch my soul 'cause it's willing to fly away
Mark my words believe my soul lives on
Don't worry now that I have gone
I've gone beyond to see the truth
When you know that your time is close at hand
Maybe then you'll begin to understand
Life down here is just a strange illusion
