Aside from the Unique Ultimate that Koleda gets when in a party with Ben, Nicole actually has a Hidden Animation Attack. When using her EX Attack, if you rotate the movement 'stick' (Or if using WASD if using a Keyboard.) a full Clockwise spin (Think actual Fighting Game combo commands.) while holding her EX Attack Button she will make two different Unique Animations. If you hold the button down until the attack ends, she actually puts the charging Suitcase Weapon down on the floor and SITS ON IT like in her Menu Screen Animation, and lets it fire. If you let go of the attack button as she starts to sit down, she will lose her balance because the suitcase fired early, and she will fall down on her butt. This second version actually acts like an Artillery shot much like Lucy's Full EX Charge attack.
When my team worked on this for localization VO, we were absolutely blown away by the animation. Hours of effort sessions for all actors and I was never bored. Great breakdown!
Perhaps you saw it on stream, but there are many more intricate animations hidden with the characters. For example, all characters have a unique stopping animation (Corin will stop short on one foot, and wave her free arm to maintain balance, so cute!), and most recovery animations are different depending on where you stop a character's combo (Piper will sometimes kick her hammer-axe back into her idle pose).
12:33 and because thats the way cats build up momentum before they pounce on prey, same with a lot of other behaviour Nekomata shows and its very funky to see this from a perspective of somebody who has two cats at home. Most of Nekomatas animations and behaviour is just too familiar.
The butt wiggle before the pounce in her ultimate too. Nekomata's the most cat-like catgirl in a while in terms of little mannerisms and body language.
@@gtf234 Hard agree, they really emphasized on the cat part rather than the girl part, which I quite like, most catgirls in recent days are catgirls only because of their ears and tail.
This is only the second video of yours that I've seen, and I have to say I LOVE your reactions to the animations you really like. I haven't had this much fun watching animation videos in a long time. You, sir, are SS tier. Thank you for the great content!
For Nekomatas facial expression change: if you watch cats closely, you will see they often switch facial expressions without blinking. Our cat does that often, looking at you with those round baby eyes only to change into those smirking naughty ones like Nekomata does in the intro, without blinking.
A little thing about 11 if you did not see her trailer: the way how she pull out her sword, more like she just making fire reaction (i really don't know how to explain that word but sth sth like that 😔) so it's like she did it on purpose with that pose
Too bad you never looked at the Koleda combos with Ben, since she gets different animations. Also Nicole's other skill animations, Soukaku's combo after flying her banner, Zhu Yuan's suppressive mode, and a bunch of other stuff.
Also Zhu Yuan's dodge interrupts and reflow after BA3, BA4 or BA5, QingYi's dodge counters mid-BA3, Anby's chain combos with different outcomes depending on BA1,2,3,(hold4),EX or BA1,2,3,(pause),4/EX, etc. It's crazy how many undocumented combos and tech inputs the devs put in the game for the players to experiment with and discover.
I love how detailed the animations in this game are. Like, it was only a few days ago I found out that the parry animations are different if your fighting and elite or boss enemy.
Your two ZZZ videos have been excellent. ZZZ's style of animation is one of my favourite in gaming that I've seen but I'm a layman when it comes to animation so having someone really break down the animations and explain them so clearly is really cool because it lets me understand why I actually like them so much and you've taught me features and techniques I can identify in the animations. I've learnt I like the cutscene animations so much because of how willing the animators are to manipulate character anatomy by "stretching and squashing" models and by "breaking bones" to emphasise anticipation frames which creates a really bouncy and energetic style of animation. And I think the biggest thing about the combat animations for me is that while a lot of them are really impressive and flashy they've paid huge attention to momentum, centres of gravity, pivots, mass etc. which turns the animations from just crazy, super human, video game movements to movements that actually look like they are being performed by an actual human body with balance and weight who is actually wielding a giant hammer or a sectioned staff.
Seeing a very generalized and poorly worded critique of the animation and then watching this is very refreshing. Its incredible how many principles they leveraged that I didn't even notice until it was pointed out Imagine analyzing actual examples, lol
One thing i really love about Lucy is her running and sprint animation, when running, she'll 'drag' her bat but when sprinting, she smoothly pickup her bat and rest it on her shoulder, such a cool little animation. Jane is currently the only agent that have walk animation and it's so damn good, the way her thumbs rest on the belt strap/hook thing on her chest and of course, the little jiggle on her uh...uh...bakery, so satisfying.
The nekomata shocked me. It felt like after the intro it was getting insane praise, i was 100% expecting S tier from the praise, to then become to new lowest was such shock.
great vid, really cool to see it all broken down. A little sad we didn't get to see their Specials and assists though as some of them have superb style (look forward to seeing that vid if you make it 👀)
There’re so many things you missed out in this video, like the perfect assist, parry, some characters’ EX skill. Like Anby’s perfect assist, that got the best animation, feels so good everytime I pull it off
For Nicole animations, whoever filmed them forgot to add her 2 secrets animations for her skill. If press and hold her skill, then do a clockwise circle with the joystick (can do on Keyboard too by doing "D-S-A-W-D") Nicole will from her standing animation do a spin around and sit on the suitcase while covering her ears to have a more powerful (more damage) charged skill before firing the ether rocket and catching the suitcase on the recoil. And if you do like before, spin joystick ( D-S-A-W-D for keyboard) and release hold on the skill button as you finish spinning the joystick (or as you finish pressing in combo D-S-A-W-D) she will also do the animation of spinning around the suitcase and sitting on it, but will "miss" and sit a bit sideways and fall on the floor while the suitcase loses control and shoots the ether rocket upwards which then lands on the enemies on a delayed way (good for dong quick swap combos), which feels like she's shooting a mortar on the enemies. i don't know if other characters have hidden animations like this but it's a very nice touch for Nicole if anyone plays Nicole. It allows also to extend the invulnerability during the animation
I like that when Piper’s weapon slams down after the horizontal-then-downward strikes, her body bounces a bit (it more noticeable on her outer leg). The weight of the weapon and the force of those swings are SO good.
Not gonna lie, been really burned out with animating after the fustercluck that was college, but seeing this breakdown vidya and the previous one on the Cinematics has me wanting to go out there and take a stab at making something fun again. It's always the RWBY guys, I swear. First Monty getting me interested at first, then Goo sort of reigniting it.
5:09 something i’d like to see in future animation analysis / explanation videos like this is a clip of what dillon explained after he finishes explaining it. having a replay of the animation with the half-way catch grenade (what dillon was explaining) right after he finishes explaining / pointing it out would have been nice that way we don’t have to go back and find the point where the animation is shown, esp when dillon explains for much longer than the animation duration :3 i feel this mainly applies to parts where he’s **observing** what really happens it’s not needed when he’s saying what he wished happened as he does visual drawings with red pen e.x. dillon’s reaction to animation -> dillon points things out, explains why they’re good, bad, etc. -> replay of said animation edit: same goes for when dillon explains nekomata’s non-blinking and billy’s overstep!! i didn’t notice those small details until he pointed them out and explained them, and i wish i got to see them in action right after
Koleda even has some alternate combat animation when Ben is in the team. They then start doing some serious tag team shit, like Koleda jumping in the air, then Ben comes in whacking his concrete bar and Koleda hitting the bar from the top - just amazing and I hope Hoyoverse will introduce some more of these interactions with characters from the same faction
I agree so much about Soldier 11's ultimate, we barely see her emotions in that, while Anby's one filled with so much emotion and was screaming like "Hey dude, I'm referencing your favourite Metal Gear Rising title screen!"
Not sure if you watched them or not, but there are a ton of animations for other interactions with teammates and enemies as well. For example, a Defensive Assist vs a light attack and a heavy attack. Lucy's boars prop her up and she falls flat on top of them for the heavy parry assist. Or Ellen transfers impact into a weapon spin for light parry, and gets knocked back with her weapon planted into the ground for heavy parry. Koleda also has modified basic combos with Ben. Jane and Qingyi both have special dash-stopping animations too. Etc.
@@gmoney9469i mean, its fair though, he missed half of Zhu’s kit, he missed half of ben’d kit. He missed a lot of animations on each character, he even missed Koleda’s ability and her working together with Ben.
The animations in ZZZ are great and well crafted. Ones of the best in the industry. One thing I find a little bit miss opportunity is many of the ULTs are skill with extra camera zooms and effects. I sure hope to see the completely new move for the ULT instead. For example Ellen’s & Nekomata’s are top notch. But for many others it’s not as satisfying to do the ULTS.
9:12 They absolutely forgot the effect for his leg boosters, that's why it looks like it can fly. The animator was thinking about this little rocket that enhances his power (you can see it in his ultimate) but I guess the effect lead forgot about it

As much as i love ur list but some of them are not at their full potential sadly.i think you should give score base on all animation such charge attacks, secret moves and dash attack..etc also parry
Very cool video! Buuuuttttt there are so many animations that eaxh characters have that you haven't seen/shown in this video that would help you shake up your fun list. I would definitely like to see you break down every characters offensive and defensive animations i used to go to school for animation and modeling. So this game is pure buffet of treats!
12:43 bruh, you had so much to point out and criticize on Lycaon and Grace, and Nekomata only the intro thing which should not count that much weight imo to begin with and put her in B!? B!!! do you hate Cats?
28:15 mechanical engineer here, centrifugal force isn't a real force. That kick gives the axe more kinetic energy and increases the radius of the arc more than anything, contributing to a whipping effect to increase impact strength like a sledgehammer. Objects have a standard inertia from their mass when moving in a straight line, and there's a rotational equivalent called "moment of inertia", which is related to mass x radius-squared. The further the mass is from the pivot, the more it resists angular acceleration. The swing starts closer to the body so it's easier to start, then the kick increases the radius, giving more moment of inertia to invest energy in. "Centrifugal" force is not in the direction of the swing, so it doesn't really contribute directly. This also means the "spin speed" doesn't actually increase, at least the angular rotation speed. It would actually probably decrease, but the tangential velocity of the blade would increase because it's further out.
well actually 8:35 is very close to a pose of french boxing where you ready a sidekick to have more power and stability. You are taught not to stay on your toes and have your torso more straight and vertical when you do it to be more rigid, but with it's robotic legs it still works well and the vertical torso would probably make the pose less clear from the back. What's interesting is that his sidekicks are the only poses reminiscent of french boxing to me, mostly because he doesn't arm his other kicks, but he keeps the vibes of control and technicality from french boxing. I thinks it's because he seems to never "overshoots" with his momentum even if the moves are exageratted. And I love the french boxing references, it seems to be almost non-existant outside of France but it's a very thechnical fighting sport and can be beautiful when you chain kicks together (from my very biased opinion)
You're almost at 100k subs! Congrats! 9:39 bro is LITERALLY like wrio, both a furry, both use ice element (called it that bc i dont know what its called in zzz) and wrio uses a gauntlet type of thing to fight while lycaon uses almost the same thing but on his leg
The reason Soldier 11's eyes are blocked out is because (SPOILER ↓) Her and Anby have the same face model, as well as having the same eyes. If her eyes were fully visible, that little easter egg would become too obvious. The glasses obscuring her eyes were intentional in this way

WE FORGOT TO INCLUDE KOLEDA AND BEN'S ULTIMATE! I did watch it on stream, but we forgot to include it in the edit T-T will definitely be more careful in future videos! We're also thinking about making a dedicated video for parry and special animations! Stay tuned!!
I love the fact that the weight of Koleda’s hammer also affects her running animation, she’s leaning a bit towards it
Ranking honkai star rail ultimate part 2?
I hope this is seen
Hopefully hahaha
Agreed
Oh yeah, there's been some great ults released since then
He should definetly wait for feixiao in 2.5
The lucy one genuinely surprised me ngl I've done takewando for a while and all the movement actually make sense
When my team worked on this for localization VO, we were absolutely blown away by the animation.
Hours of effort sessions for all actors and I was never bored. Great breakdown!
You got me with the thumbnail. I was about to throw hands if Qingyi was put in a bad tier lol
I'll fight you right now
Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!!
Fr
@@gtf234 yeah, my thoughts exactly
@@gtf234 Hard agree, they really emphasized on the cat part rather than the girl part, which I quite like, most catgirls in recent days are catgirls only because of their ears and tail.
Do people really not know that? I thought It was just a common knowlege. I don't even have cats and I know that 😭
Imagine if Seth did the same cat wiggle lmao
"Soldier 11! Why does she look like Anby?"
He doesn't know 💀
?
Hell we don’t know
Yet
Nobody knows yet; all we have are theories.
neither do us 💀
It was said that Anby was Soldier 0.
ZZZ animators goes really hard . They are really doing an amazing job so far .
I don't know if this is relevant or not, but cats tend to not blink very much, which might be why they didn't make Nekomata blink in the transition?
Yeah, somehow it felt natural for her
All these animations are S tier. Some are just more S tier than others
Jane Doe's animations are inspired by an ice skater, which is quite creative
@ObiAlmighty nah it's true she has a voiceline where she talks about doing figure skating before
yeah i noticed from her stopping animation. she did the skid that ice skaters does
@ObiAlmighty One of Jane's movesets is called 'Salchow', which is an ice skating jump named after Swedish Ice Figure skater Ulrich Salchow.
This is only the second video of yours that I've seen, and I have to say I LOVE your reactions to the animations you really like. I haven't had this much fun watching animation videos in a long time. You, sir, are SS tier. Thank you for the great content!
No parries, no chains, sometiems no skills? (nicole hiddena animations too) lot of animations isnt included here, sadly
It’s funny cause you actually have to play the game to really notice those small details in the animation.
@@Karma-pq9fi The hidden animation maybe however he should have at least watched parries, chain attacks and skills
I love these videos, it helps me appreciate the animator's work even more.
THANK YOU! I thought I was crazy when I thought Ellen's closed eyes looked weird in her entry animation. It bugged me for so long!
imo, I think its fine just shows how constantly tired she is
ive been anticipating this video a lot!!!!!! thank you for this :D excited to see what u think of the animations !
I wish they showed nicole's secret animation attack where she spins and falls down into a perfect pose while firing the gun
For Nekomatas facial expression change: if you watch cats closely, you will see they often switch facial expressions without blinking. Our cat does that often, looking at you with those round baby eyes only to change into those smirking naughty ones like Nekomata does in the intro, without blinking.
I love he pointed out the RWBY similarities/inspirations bc I'm always looking at them too while playing!
You are so attentive to detail. I've been playing zzz since release, but I haven't even noticed so many interesting animations
A little thing about 11 if you did not see her trailer: the way how she pull out her sword, more like she just making fire reaction (i really don't know how to explain that word but sth sth like that 😔) so it's like she did it on purpose with that pose
Like a match basically
@@Karma-pq9fi ah yes yes, like that! Thank you! 💖
I will keep saying it, this feels like a huge passion project and im here for it
You need to make a third video where you go over the hidden animation changes for characters like Koleda+Ben, Jane's Passion State, etc.
Dude, i love finding talented people who are wicked smart. I'm going to enjoy being a new sub ❤ look forward to more
5:13 blud really need to clarify
WOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Been EAGERLY waiting for this one! :D
Seeing a very generalized and poorly worded critique of the animation and then watching this is very refreshing.
Its incredible how many principles they leveraged that I didn't even notice until it was pointed out
Imagine analyzing actual examples, lol
Goo calling Nicole Coco is such a fresh reminder that this man did do RWBY where Coco main weapon was her purse/suitcase that turns into a gun
Not to mention the Seth/Jaune comparison. Which, to be fair; valid.
@@StreetBoyWill if we see lycaon differently we can see mercury fighting style as he had metal legs
I'm learning so much from Goo's videos, it's insane how informative they are for animators.
Congrats on 100k subscribers! I love ZZZ, I was waiting for you to rate the animations 🩷
Like Anby’s perfect assist, that got the best animation, feels so good everytime I pull it off
I have been waiting for this and one was not disappointed. Keep up the amazing work !!! ❤
5:09 something i’d like to see in future animation analysis / explanation videos like this is a clip of what dillon explained after he finishes explaining it.
having a replay of the animation with the half-way catch grenade (what dillon was explaining) right after he finishes explaining / pointing it out would have been nice
that way we don’t have to go back and find the point where the animation is shown, esp when dillon explains for much longer than the animation duration :3
i feel this mainly applies to parts where he’s **observing** what really happens
it’s not needed when he’s saying what he wished happened as he does visual drawings with red pen
e.x. dillon’s reaction to animation -> dillon points things out, explains why they’re good, bad, etc. -> replay of said animation
edit: same goes for when dillon explains nekomata’s non-blinking and billy’s overstep!!
i didn’t notice those small details until he pointed them out and explained them, and i wish i got to see them in action right after
OOPS!! We forgot to include Koleda and Ben's ult in the edit! But I did watch it on stream and loved it. Partially why Koleda ranked so high in SS.
no, i don't forgot.
I've been flabbergasted by the level of animation this game offers and I have been waiting for you to cover it, it's just so peakkkk !
The reason Jane Does moves are so solid and fluid is because she mentions she used to do figure skating
Professional Animator ❌
Physics Professor ✔️
Koleda even has some alternate combat animation when Ben is in the team.
They then start doing some serious tag team shit, like Koleda jumping in the air, then Ben comes in whacking his concrete bar and Koleda hitting the bar from the top - just amazing and I hope Hoyoverse will introduce some more of these interactions with characters from the same faction
I agree so much about Soldier 11's ultimate, we barely see her emotions in that, while Anby's one filled with so much emotion and was screaming like "Hey dude, I'm referencing your favourite Metal Gear Rising title screen!"
14:41 Omg it’s such a shame that video didn’t show Koleda’s special alternative ult animation when Ben is in the team
You have made me appreciate zzz wayyyyy more now, thank you
0:53 this is the reason why I love this game's animations so much
No motherfucking way you timestamped him saying ass
I just LOVE seeing you gawk at this animations the same way i do, even if I'm not a animator myself
Etc.
i love these videos omg its so interesting to hear him talk about these animation techniques
Did you see Anton’s enhanced basic attacks? That’s the real meat of his kit.
This is such a horrid video 😭😭didn’t even watch half of their kits
@@turothescrub6830he watched a lot more animations on stream, this is a cut down version
@@turothescrub6830 Well that’s pretty hyperbolic…
@@gmoney9469i mean, its fair though, he missed half of Zhu’s kit, he missed half of ben’d kit. He missed a lot of animations on each character, he even missed Koleda’s ability and her working together with Ben.
Dude I love those drilling attacks lmao, especially the chants he shout. Truly the reason why I played him.
Bro used leaked footage in a sponsored video Gigachad
Wait omg he does lmaooo
9:12 They absolutely forgot the effect for his leg boosters, that's why it looks like it can fly. The animator was thinking about this little rocket that enhances his power (you can see it in his ultimate) but I guess the effect lead forgot about it
best part about anton is his va cyu. before they announced/confirmed vas for this game everyone knew who voiced anton and thus he becomes hoyos worst kept secret
zzz is visually just so amazing. also sounds so amazing too.
5:33 That girl's got a nailgun that looks like it was designed by KRISS.
Yep, I was like, "girl, that ain't a nailgun, that's a Vector".
One of the main reasons why i love jane doe soo much is the way they did her animation. It's sooo buttery smooth
Squash and stretch. I love how the animations pop in this game.
Yesss! I've been waiting for this video!
12:43 bruh, you had so much to point out and criticize on Lycaon and Grace, and Nekomata only the intro thing which should not count that much weight imo to begin with and put her in B!? B!!! do you hate Cats?
Another day, another Zenless Zone Zero video from our boy. 😎👍
Ye basically what he meant :3 the point to take from his vid I think is how creative her kick is for what the next movement is going to be
This is fun. I like seeing all the good and the bad and the 'OH MY GOD'
well actually 8:35 is very close to a pose of french boxing where you ready a sidekick to have more power and stability.
LMAO NOTTHE SETH AND JAUEN COMPARISON HELPPPPP
Love these breakdowns!
He about to be baited into anby-soldier lore
The reason Soldier 11's eyes are blocked out is because (SPOILER ↓)
Her and Anby have the same face model, as well as having the same eyes. If her eyes were fully visible, that little easter egg would become too obvious. The glasses obscuring her eyes were intentional in this way
Piper❌
Sleepy short female itto✅
I love these, so entertaining to watch
prof you missed Jane's enhanced state attack animations😔 she gets a bunch of whole new attacks in it
The animation in this game looks so good. Especially in the cutscenes
Its worth mentioning that koleda has an extra attack and a different ult if you use with ben
YEAAAAHH!!! my two favorite characters in tier SS, Piper and Koleda! What an amazing characters with amazing animations!!💥
