These animations were so much fun to rank with just how high quality each of them are. The animators on the PGR team did an absolutely AMAZING job on these. Please keep in mind that all of the comments made in this video are just nitpicks at this point for the sake of choosing a winner. Much love and respect to the animators and artists at Kuro Games!

there olso few latest character that you miss like alisa echo, lamia lullaby, black rock shooter, watanabe epitatph, qu shukra, teddy decryptor, luna oblivion, bridget ardeo, and hanying S rank frame( can't find what her new frame called).
great vid but you kinda miss some characters and their other frames too! please check it out when you can because you had miss some good animation from there. Also could you do Wuthering waves ults (it's another game from the same people who made PGR). They are really good too!

26:02 It's kinda funny that you asked for more frames into that pose, since from gameplay perspective, her long ult animation is already time consuming since she doesn't have a timestop (the stage time plays a big role in this game).
Also about the sniping shot by Lee Hyperreal (the one where he jumps and do the shooting), it's actually just his core passive attack. The real ult was his powerful shot in the end. I kinda wished people also react to this core passive attacks, because some of them were really cool (another example is the mid air attack by Alpha in your animation video)
Can't wait for Wuthering Waves to come out so we can peer pressure this man to rank their ults too.

@@shihabsharar3539 Not Really, even each Gen 2's has their own distinct Mechanics, the Newer Characters are being called Gen 3 only because of their Damage and Buffs, Luna is the only one actually bringing something Completely New
I always find PGR's animation to be very cool, but to hear the technical behind why its cool from a professional is great!
I am so happy that Hyperreal is the winner. I stayed up so late to get that bossfight to feel so good. I cant see him without hearing 3:25 Under Dimension by Vanguard Sound.

Fun fact: Lee Hyperreal entire movesets all pay homage to his previous frames ultimates.
- The 4th normal attack is a multi-body gun play like his Palefire Ult
- The gun slam in the 5th normal attack AND the Red 3-ping in the Hypermatrix form resembles Entropy "divine punishment" Ult
There is also the Blue 3-ping where he jumps over the enemies and quick aim the rifle WHILE BEING UPSIDE DOWN, from which you can seemlessly transition into his Hypermatrix opening shot (like the start-up for the ultimate that you see).
Also also, everytime you use 3-ping in the Hypermatrix mode, there is another "Lee" appears and coordinate the damage with you. What so sick from a conceptual stand point is that once this state ends, all the "Lee" converge into one as the Hypermatrix cracks open and revert to normal environment. Just makes Lee's animation even sexier than it ever should be.
The thing that always gets me about Hyperreal is, in that shot you were fond of where he...sheathes his gun, three or four images of him draw together and overlap into him since he's the culmination of timelines. Just looks so neat, imo.
we really need someone to make a new video with all the ults, this video people use is nearly a year old with tons of characters missing 😭
Oh man if only the rest of gen 2 and the beginning of gen 3 was shown in the referenced vid, Really enjoy seeing an animators perspective and insights on these, makes me pay even closer attention to detail and appreciate the smaller things even more, Great vid Prof. ^o^

I'm pretty sure he's playing on a North American server, we're a year and a half behind so that means we have less characters

Wow, excellent analysis of all the animations! We can see how the ultimates improved over time.
Perhaps you can also analyze the Un Finishing moves too. A finisher is exclusive to the Uns, and it is executed by depleting an enemy's Orange bar by attacking them. Once it is empty, the next basic attack will have the character perform a special execution move that instantly kills the target. There's not a lot of Uns, but it would be a cool short video to see your thoughts on how they are animated.

It's so wonderful seeing the insights of an animator in making these media for entertainment. You get a peak of how they mix physics with exaggeration provided by the freedom of their platform.
Now im curious what's your opinion about the newer characters because the video you watched is kinda old
I was surprised Lee Hyperreal won this one. His moveset is just my favourite especially his yellow orb 5:00 in his core passive.
I'd love to see you check out the un counter and executes, thats where they really shine! Side note btw that picture at the end was lee Entropy not hyperreal, they can get really confusing haha

From the New Characters coming the only ones I see getting into S or Higher for Him are Alisa, Black Rock Shooter and Lamia, maybe Qu as well
Nah, most of them aren't that good. Alisa will be rated probably same as Bianca, maybe even lower as concept is similar. Luna Oblivion isn't animation wise anyhow crazy, some VFX are good but that is not what he is rating. Luna suffers from same syndrome in terms of ults as her previous frames, fine VFX but really poor animation itself.
Watanabe could be more interesting, but i think he might rate it lower due to how pointless some part of animation feels like. Like in case of Hyperreal you have build up for another build up and that build up pays off and everything has purpose. Even most of his kit is explained in lore.

Watanabe's looks too flashy and you can't really see the animation itself as well as Luna's. Her ultimate is even more messy, no vfx can help it. Alisa's is good but it's not beating Hyperreal.
I personally think Luna is a bit... tooooooo flashy, other than the blackhole as the highlight, I can barely see her in the animations.
Epitaph is pretty good, S tier at least but not as impactful as Hyperreal (try to ignore the DPS, only the VFX please). Really like the phase 1 ult especially, building up the suspense that would be paid off in phase 2 ult. The phase 2 ult tho...... lotta fire (which I like), but not as impressive as PULLING OUT A FOLDABLE CANNON. It's probably just circumstance.... but yeah, a minus.
Alisa Echo is sorta like Bianca Abystigma, but with quite a bit more dynamic. S -> SS (I personally like it very much), but at the end of the day it's Excalibur...... not a minus ofc, but we have plenty of them already. Generic is not necessarily good, just...... uninspiring? So to speak.
Seriously, just like the video explained, Hyperreal ult is just Masterclass in terms of compositions, perspectives and building up anticipation, let alone all the space-time cracking stuff going on. It's really difficult to top.
Not sure how much this matters, but if I recall, there is arole implication as to why at 7:23 he is putting all the weight of the sword on his wrist.
Basically, he is extremely strong, so strong, that he can easily use a single hand to wield that sword, and has in the past requested a second sword, so he could dual-wield, but was denied.

Lee Hyperreal not only has the best animation for his ultimate but also he moves around while he does it and avoids almost every attack, it's so OP.
Despite the technical flaws in the early character animations, I still have a lot of respect for Kuro for putting it out there. As a creator it's so easy to get caught up in perfection that it can prevent a project from moving forward. Plus, it's kinda cool to see how far they've come with the game!

Its interesting to get your perspective on this.
Ive played PGR for a year, and its great to just throw on for 10 minutes to do a daily routine and then do some competitive PVE on a leaderboard to rack up points with some awesome characters, though admittedly, as flashy as the game is, the animations (not the effects, but the body animations) for characters while they fight, and their ultimates (save for the later introduced gen 2-3-4 characters) are actually not that great.
they cut a LOT of corners and use a lot of visual tricks to make certain things work, like with Crimson Weave during the strike from her second ultimate she straight up just vanishes into the ground and teleports to the opposite side of her strike, but because of the cut and the speed you dont really see it.
would love to see you react to the characters that the chinese version of the game has, they are a year ahead, and the characters are GORGEOUS, far more complex in combat design by comparison, Crimson Weave is just the start, we got Lamia, Watanabe Fire, Bridget, Teddy, Qu Shukra, Luna Annihilation, Black Rock Shooter Collaboration, and we recently had an upgrade for Hanying, they are all fantastic.

Well neither camu nor kamui have ults Like that. And I actually noticed a frame with rosetta's ult when he says "I'm back"(I'm assuming in the stream he took a break)

And I'm quite interested to what he has to say about Luna's because it was so close to perfection yet it "felt" so off somewhere at the same time I kept investigating into it. But alas, I couldn't find where the "problem" and was hoping he'd be able to provide some enlightenment. Shame he didn't get to see them though.

I kinda wish there were Core Passive from all these characters included too because they actually have really good animations too outside of just Ultimate. And some characters like Haicma, Noan, Pulao are Uns, which are different than the rest of the characters that are Omns. Uns have Finisher Moves and I think that's worth reviewing too next time.
About the hands wrapping around more I agree, cuz nilous spin camera angle and hand movements are perfect

This is what makes PGR good. The exhilarating combat combined with fantastic visual effects makes you want to keep playing it. Not to mention the bosses that have equally as many movesets as your characters. This game is a masterpiece. It's a shame that it is a gacha game. The gacha playerbase is not into gameplay. They are more into collecting waifu and stuff. It doesn't matter if the gameplay is bad as long as they get to collect stuff easily. Since PGR is combat-focused and likely hinder their progression because of "skill issues", i can see why PGR is not so popular.
With all analysed, and playing the game, it's kinda better to understand their personalities and character development is often reflected (intentionally or not) on their animations.
Some began strong but grew confident.
Others where clumsy but confident and became more technic.

I'm fine with the placements but still I have to point out what I think is an inconsistency with the tier list.
while most characters are judged purely by their ultimate attack animations alone, I've noticed that some are judged by not only their ultimate attack animations, but also getting bonus points from their signal orb animations and core passive animations such as with hyperreal.
Nah He just said Lee's attacks looked Cool even though He also said He couldn't tell too much of what was happening with them, He didn't say anything else about them and He did go at length about why He liked Lee's Ult just like All the Other Characters

Wish the hold-dodge and hold-basicattack animations were shown for CW before the ult too. Former has an auto-parry and the animation for the latter is awesome. Great ult analysis, by the way!
Him and His Team did an Official PGR animation for Kuro and from it(and even His comments before reviewing Her Ult's) you can see that He knows Alpha's complete Move Set, I'm betting thier research probably involved watching Blanc and Rexlant's Popular Alpha Videos on Top of actually playing Her a bit

I would love if you did the Aether Gazer ultimate skill chains! That's basically longer ultimates where 2-3 characters team up to do a big attack. There is a video that goes up to 2.2, but in CN right now we have skill chains all the way to patch 3.0, so keep that in mind. There are tons of great ones you'd miss out on.

This was so fascinating to watch, but I do wonder if you would've ranked Alpha Crimson Weave higher if you saw her core. The thing about Lee Hyperreal is that everything BEFORE the gigantic bomb shot was actually his core passive, not his ultimate animation. Only the final bomb hit was his actual ultimate. Alpha Crimson Weave has a LOT more mechanics and animations within her core passive that weren't shown (I'm not sure if you've seen them yet either).
There's also many more characters that have been released since when the video you watched was posted! I hope you'll watch them all one day too. One of the really big, amazing ones is the new S Qu for example.
His definitely seen Alpha's Core Passive and other Skills, Him and His Team made an Official PGR animation of Alpha vs Lucia Plume, in it you can see nodes at most of Her Skills
Edit: the animation was made before the reaction of course and even here He does point out that His Biased towards Alpha(100% must be cause of Her Skill animations) so He wanted to be more fare
