  • We have used several camping toilets and this is our favorite so far. Inspired by several other youtube videos, we designed this toilet for comfort and balance.

My smile and enjoyment for the day. I wish I could have been around when you were making this. Knowing you kids there was a lot of fun went on during the videoing. This is a wonderful idea for the large camp and you have presented it in just the right way. You remind me a lot of my grand kids , I almost think you are my grands. :) I am not able to go with them any more but with your videos and theirs , I almost can. :) Love your videos ! Thanks for taking the time to make and post them. Great grand son(6 years old) is now runs the mountain trails with them. Life is good. ... Blessings

Love the idea, wonderfully recylic, too. Many thanks for sharing. This solves the loo question for my planned truck cabin with space for 10 dogs when we go beach outing. My take on the bucket is fill it with loose soil or sawdust, whatever is easy, to catch the droppings then top it off with reserve soil. Thus solve the odor issue because the soil-waste mix speeds up decomposition-back-into-soil-again process. Then dump the contents without nuisance to others and let time take care of the rest. Worked well with the waste of my tied-to-dog run belligerent dog and my fenced-in escape artist pooch. Where their poo once was covered in turn becomes a top up odorless soil to their new issues. Haven't noted though how long it takes for the full decomposition. That's for my next look out....

The term S.H.I.T. is very old, means ship high in transit.
Long ago when grains and manure were being shipped long hauls methane would produce when the manure got wet sitting on the hull of the ships, resulting in combustion, (not sure if that's when they thought of shit hitting the fan) anyway the way to keep these ships from blowing up was keeping the manure out of the water or dry, hense ship high in transit, eventually we made it a dirty word. :o)

💕 All you needed was the chair, the seat & a shovel ! Dig a hole for the chair to straddle, and fill it back up with dirt before you leave ! Good to go ! (PS You might need to carry a bag for used toilet paper, unless you can get some biodegradable paper !😉) 👍🏼😊👋🏼

Great idea to use the chair! Thumbs up for that.
May I suggest, if you're not already doing so, to line the bucket with a trash bag. Then add a layer of cat litter. I like Arm & Hammer made with ground corn products. Then sprinkle a little more on each fresh deposit. This brand of cat litter does a good job of controlling odors and appears to prevent attracting insects.
When ready to empty, double bag and put in trash pick up container. Check local regulations for your area. That's the approved method here. Also check for regulations/restrictions if planning to dispose of bucket contents in any other manner. Proper burial approved here, may not be approved elsewhere.
Between trips, wash & sanitize the bucket. Line with a fresh plastic bag. Then stow, t-paper, extra trash bags, baby wipes and hand sanitizer in the bucket. Use another bucket for your cat litter, (or compost, peatmoss, sawdust) along with a plastic cup for a scoop. Store the litter bucket on chair seat. All set for the next camping trip or any other time this setup is needed.
Again, thanks for sharing. Really like how it turned out.

Add a supply of dried leaves or peat and sprinkle some in with each use to lightly cover contents. No smell or flies. See The Humanure Handbook by Joseph C. Jenkins.for better use detail. They are also often used in tiny house construction. Your chair would work great with this method. For camping and emergencies, not in an actual tiny house, those are more permanent commode designs. ;-) Thanks.

    COMMODE.
Every time I see the commode toilet in my mom's garage, I feel like taking it home for emergency preparedness. I would just need to buy one of those privacy pop up tents.

You can make a wooden chair out of pinewood and when you go into the woods you could find good wood to make out of a chair and you can bend pinewood while you put inside the water for 24 hours it be flexible.

💕 No, you need the chair. No need for the porcelain bottom of the toilet ! Just the seat & the chair, and dig a hole under it ! When you leave, throw some dirt on the whole & you're good to go & helped fertilize the area ! 👍🏼😊👋🏼

I would never share a camping toilet. You know how strangers leave "presents" on public toilets? Well they are someone's relatives, and they just may secretly be your own disgusting relatives with splash and streak problems. Hence, even with family I would make my own toilet and lock it down as off limits.
ps. I like this idea, but (and this isn't going to be pretty) if you have larger people in your camp, it is especially important not to share. How will they lift up on one side to wipe? They'd have to stand and then the chance for a mess rises. I had a roommate with a larger rear, and she'd leave red butt cheek marks on the back of the seat. (I told you this wasn't going to be pretty.)
