the song title 'no more dream' refers to young people in Korea who study hard to get into the 'right' schools pursuing their parents' aspirations, but have given up their own dreams.
In Korea, respect for authority, parents, and elders is really important. BTS got criticized heavily for portraying rebellious youth.
BigBang seemed more rebellious than this. How come they got so much more respect in the beginning?

The lyrics are for the youth asking them to break the social restrictions and dream their own dream, it's a call for rebelling against the pressure put on the students by the society
PS: the suicidal rate of students in south korea was very high in those period and BTS voiced out regarding it
Their age range was 15 to 20, JIN was 20 and JUNGKOOK was 15 (Dec 1992 - Sept 1997).

@@roxy4444 I miscounted the five years … JIN & JUNGKOOK are four years (Dec 1992 - Sept 1997) and four months (Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec or Dec to Sept) apart unless you’re counting backwards from Sept to Dec and not December to September then yes it would be 8 months.
TIP: If you want subtitles on their older songs you need to get them from the TH-cam channel 1theK. It's just as official and safe to react to. It wasn't until later they started their current YT channel and they didn't bother with subtitles on the oldest songs. 😉👍
BTS were extremely talented but so were all their staff. Their other producers (apart from the members), choreographers. videographers, managers and everyone- they were skilled too and more than anything they trusted BTS' talent & hardwork. And that's exactly why as BTS grew and their paycheck kept growing- those people are also acieveing numbers others could only dream about. I am forever grateful for all of them for trusting in BTS and never giving up.

I remember seeing a documentary where the emcee who introduced them says they were acknowledged not because they are popular but because they are talented (since their label is so small with no influence in media).

Thank you for reacting!! This is honestly definitely set the president about BTS. Lol. This is basically about finding your dream or something that makes you happy and work hard for it. In Asian countries school from a very young age is pushed on kids. The kids are pushed to be the best and work hard. However fail (for a lot of kids) to teach the kids dreams and teach them to find things that bring them joy. BTS is also saying that whatever is your dream pursue it even if it isn’t studying 24 hrs a day. However whatever you decide to do work hard for it… hopefully this makes sense…
So BTS talking about something that could be considered rebellious is actually pretty crazy for a debut song. BTS from day one have stuck to their beliefs and their name:
The name "BTS," actually stands for the words, "Bangtan Sonyeondan," which translates to mean "Bulletproof Boy Scouts." According to member J-Hope, the band's name has a pretty deep meaning. "It has a profound meaning...‘Bangtan’ means to be resistant to bullets, so it means to block out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that aim on adolescents like bullets, to preserve the values and ideal of today’s adolescents.”

It was incredibly courageous for them to debut with this critique on Korean society.
Debuts in Korea sets the tone for going forward and indeed, their first album trilogy was a rebellious school theme, with social commentary on multiple issues other idol groups would not and could not talk about, because their companies would not allow them to, and the government was known to blacklist artists who criticized them.
But BTS’ company Big Hit gave them creative freedom from the start. They valued creative expression over profit.
Their talent spoke for itself, and their topics struck a strong chord with young people who felt they didn’t have a voice in society. Their successive albums continued to talk about important issues and offer social commentary and critique. Their lyrics are incredible nuanced and layered and their videos are full of story and symbolism too.

I recommend watching the live version of this song in Japan. You will not regret it, especially when it comes to the choreography.
As everyone else said their earlier videos sometimes are uploaded on a few channels and some would only have auto-generated subs. Stay away from those, their lyrics are great so you are missing half the impact without understanding what they are singing about. 💜💜💜

Hmmm, dont you think it kind of ruins the surprise of the music video if you watch the dance practice first? Eg, when you're blown away by ON kinetic manifesto, part of it is seeing their presentation with the impact they intended for the first time along with hearing the music for the first time? When I watched Butter/bts for the first time, it was such a discovery, if I had seen the choreo first that video wouldn't have impacted as much?

These are all great songs, but I feel you may vibe more with songs like "Black Swan", "Fake Love" and "Run BTS" (which you'll only find lyric videos for, btw, because they haven't made a MV yet). The official channel actually doesn't have subs on this one and a couple of others. Their first few songs were only subbed on the 1TheK channel.

BigHit had no money at the time so most of the clothes they are wearing in this video was not expensive. In fact Suga says that the HBA this they were wearing someone asked them what it meant and they didn't know because it was just $14. at an outlet. Funny thing about that is it's a Hood By Air shirt in Air Jordan but probably an overstock. When Jimin does that he is put on his side and slides across all those boys then plants his feet and sings the highest note.

If you want to follow their story from the very beginning, I recommend watching The Rise Of Bangtan series.
It's a dokumentary series made by ARMY to tell their story to the world, it goes in dept from before their debut, their struggles, the critic to the happy moment that made them who they are today.
You will also get the chance to learn more about the Kpop industry as a whole and how it all started and more about the Korean culture.
I highly recommend it, it is very well made and Netflix worthy.
