Bleach goes bad in about 6 months you might want to stock up on powdered chlorine such a shock for pools you can search for more information it was a much longer time and only a tbsp is needed to make a gallon of bleach
Pool shock is a good suggestion, plus it takes up far less room, but it would be of benefit to you to research which type to buy, one is suitable for the purpose and one is not, but I can't remember which , I'm sorry to say.

As a long time prepper. Dont have your house hold goods like alcohol medical and or laundry or dish shoap next to your food stored. Should they happen to explode those chemicals would ruin your food. When I was nee to preppen, it happened to me... i dont want you loosing your food.
You need to store your food better. It will not last in the original container. Mylar bags and buckets with icy absorbers are best. You’ll survive on rancid food. Other peppers know better how to store food. It’s NOT LIKD THIS!

The reason I say that is because everybody always used to ask us if we were Catholic, because of all the kids Lol My mother loved reading about how Mormons canned food and prepped their food etc. My Dad built a pantry in our basement so they could have extra space needed for our food. At any given time we also had extra family members with us. So I guess my parents passed on their prepping gene to me LOL I'm just like you when I watch these videos it is oddly satisfying. Lol
I highly recommend using food grade buckets to place all your flour, sugar and dry foods (each packaged inside a Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers.. then seal it up inside those buckets).
I don’t know how old you are son , but I’m a great g-ma at the great age of 75. My children and grands used to laugh at me and Pop for putting up food , they thought we were old fashioned or just crazy ! I can veggies , deer meat , and chicken and broth .we live in the woods and have a free flowing spring so pretty set. Can cook on the grill if electric goes. I was raised by the older generation. My dad was almost 40 when I was born. So I learned alot. My mother always canned , they always raised a big garden, jersey milk cow, hogs for pork, and chickens. So now i raise chickens, I raise a garden and my husband hunts .so we stock up on venison.
The first thing I did was put more security in the house. Mosquitoes and rat protection (door). Hurricane and earthquake preparations. Pantry pvc material food storage.
It is food insurance. If it goes bad, you buy more. You buy car insurance and hope you don't use it. Food insurance is not a waste of money if it goes bad.
The oats most likely will be fine if he stored and packed it differently but yeah he definitely could keep the nuts and oils to a minimum and trade it for something with better shelf life like freeze dried foods or pasta and lentils l. The nuts and oils and nut butter go rancid after 2-3 years in a lot of cases.
Another must-have item for prepping is baking soda. I hardly ever see any channels talking about it. It's multi-purpose. Can you use it in place of soap, to brush teeth (in moderation), dress itchy bug bites, clean, bake... many more uses. Combine it with vinegar and you have a wonderful cleaning/declogging solution. It's also really cheap when bought in bulk. Get your baking soda!
And activated charcoal or how to make your own....ahhh the art of being a survivalist instead of just a prepper! Prepper....it even sounds like it's unfinished business! Survivalist is the completed Man! I love it!
I have 4 pieces of advice. 1. You can't use Bisquick, box cake and brownies mixes past the experation date. They have oils in them that will grow spores, deadly. 2. Nuts go rancid after experation date because of the oils. 3. Water, you need to purify it for long term storage. Online is instructions to do it with pool shock powder. Cheap because liquid bleach looses strength over time. 4. Buy rice, wrap in garbage bag and freeze for 2 weeks, to kill bugs and eggs. Then put in 5 gallon food safe buckets. Same for four but flour goes bad after a year.

oh my gosh, the nuts. note that nuts will go rancid quick due to the oils and fats in them, especially in plastic containers. freezing them helps for longevity.
i was going to say... kinda beginners mistake. Far better to get a freezer for fats and grains to keep them from getting rancid and keeps the bugs out. I'd say focus more on dry canning beans and legumes for shelf sto4rage. Otherwise, much better off getting an extra freezer for nuts, seeds and grains.
I like how all your electronics were thoughtfully purchased, even your kettle can be eaten directly out of and also you show a singular cooking stove and mention that those items are under 1000 wats which is what you plan to have a doe your generator size. Because it is not field tested. This is the guy who realizes he has no clean water or something like that. I love his thinking but you have to test it. Could I really survive on this for a month/year/whateverr? I have setup my stuff so I could rotate it. The canned stuff is the stuff I actually like to eat. Proper canned meat is hard to be tasty. Use the oldest products first and see what you miss. If you don't test you run into problems when it matters. Don't be the guy without matches on the block. Or clean water. Or without rubbing alcohol.

I would stock up on more salt,more first aid stuff(like eye drops,bandages,ace bandages,crutches,etc),hunting,and fishing supplies,as well as a extra water filter.Don't forget flashlights,batteries,candles,matches,sugar,dried beans,rice,seeds for planting,and eating.But I love your stock pile.

They would need to leave the house in order to search for the food since most houses do not have a constant supply of creatures to hunt and eat. Then the cat would find some disease ridden pigeon, eat it or bring it to the house and then eat it. Also some domesticated cats cannot hunt, since they are domesticated and have lived most if not all of their lives without the need to hunt, so they are not good at it.
You could make a false wall and hide your preps. Make it look like a small coat closet. If it gets really bad people may go dolor to door looking for food.

You have one very organized and well thought out emergency pantry, Funbubble, and I admire it very much. I would like to perhaps add one or two suggestions that will save you some unpleasant surprises down the road. I hope you won't mind. Your nuts are an excellent food selection, but nuts tend to go rancid over time , as soon as 6 months sometimes, unless you freeze them. If I may suggest, you can purchase a very affordable little 7 sq. ft. compact chest freezer through Costo for $265 or not too much more than that, and with a $35 UPS delivery to your door, it weighs only 70 pounds, and they make them even smaller. You can keep those nuts for years and free up space for other preps if you choose. The other thing I noticed was a choice not to include rice. It may be that you don't like it, but it has lots of calories, and like the pasta, you can put it in water and eventually it will be cooked rice. It would be a good thing to pour over all those excellent soups you have stocked up. These are the only things I noticed that might help you further down the road. he has some ramen noodles although they were in the flimsy rodent ready packages of thin plasitic- throw them and your pancake mixes in steel or galvanized buckets- trash cans (small-large) galvanized with seal tight lid is great for pouches and powders-beans, flour, noodles, mre bread, cookies, candy, etc.... a steel wall-locker is my "pantry overflow" with the max and cheese, peanut butter, paper plates, etc...
It's fine to buy two years ahead as long as you keep using what you buy so nothing goes to waste. When you go to the store you replace it. There is a whole thread on how he bought too many nuts and they are going to go bad. Better to return now so people who will use it will buy it or donate them. Beans and rice don't sound fun but that's what lasts for years and doesn't go bad if stored correctly. Otherwise you mostly need to be eat what you saved and replace it as you shop.
Not sure if anyone else has had this problem but --- When Storing water, I have had the Plastic Water containers disintegrate over time. Usually the 1 and 2-1/2 Gallon water jugs from the Grocery Store. The Plastic eventually becomes brittle and cracks. So BE CAREFUL when storing water in rooms with Carpet.
You have a great set-up. One concern I saw was that you were storing your water directly on concrete in the garage. Concrete outgases constantly. According to preparedness lecturer Kenneth Moravec: "Concrete attracts fluids and 'bleeds.' Anything that has been on or in that concrete will find its way into your plastic water barrel. This includes the lime in the concrete, any hazardous materials (i.e. gasoline, oils, kerosene or anything a contractor used in construction), algae, etc. Usually it is not enough to make the water toxic but it will taint the water enough to make the taste unbearable. And no amount of pouring it from container to container will take that taste away." The best way to store that water is on two by fours making a pallet out of it.
Also, plastic leaches from the surrounding air. So if you keep plastic water jugs in the garage, they will absorb the lingering exhaust from the vehicles parked in the garage. Best to move them. You can buy canned water for the storing in the garage. Pricey but well worth the investment. You can DM me for info RE: Blue Can Water.
Instead of the liquid beach i would reccomend bleach tablets for longevity and vaccume sealing and freezing the nuts also i didnt see any rice or dried beans if you are purley looking for long lasting ease of mind prepping
There's a lot of stuff in that pantry that will go bad with 2 to 3 years. Lots of money spent on things that are ready eat. Long term low maintenance prepping involves highest calorie dry foods like dry beans and rice for the dollar. He could have bought way less canned food and bought a chamber vacuum sealer and mylar bags. Vacmaster 215 is $1k, mylar bags $200, 100 lbs basmati rice $130, 100 lbs black and red beans $130, oxygen absorbers $50, 50 lbs flour $18, 20 lbs powder milk $180. All of this plus much of what he has will last a 25 years. Those nuts and oats he has, I would also vacuum seal. Don't invest in electrical cooking supplies, get propane camping oven/ cooktop. You cannot rely on the electricity being on. Ask anyone in Texas today. The whole state lost power. The gravity fed water filter is his best purchase. Water from rain, lakes, or rivers can be boiled and filtered. I enjoyed this video, but I'd tweak it quite dramatically.

@@FerventReminder you can buy the countertop sealers for less. But if you freeze or store pantry foods, the most effective are chamber sealers. You will make up for the investment in short time. Chambers are great for all thick poly bags or rolls (custom cuts), mylar for long term dry foods, and even securing Mason jars for dry food. Lastly, I've seen countertop sealers having higher fail rates on their seal. This can be due to type of bag as well. Lastly, countertop sealers rely on the one side embossed bags only. Chamber vacuum sealer can do any bag (including mylar).

Now that you have a fantastic stockpile, just when you use one, buy a new and put it at the back and that way yours items wont go bad because you are rotating it. You will always keep a great supply and nothing will go bad because you are using and rotating. Thanks for sharing.
Well done, Mr. Since you don’t have any of those mre’s that have a 25 year shelf life, I recommend practicing what they call FIFO ( First In, First Out) so you keep using those products but you keep on buying but put the new products in the back that way your products are never too old.
Just watched your video didn’t realize it was two years old looks amazing nice and organized I would imagine someone else has mentioned it already but if not, you said you have a lot of money invested in that room. I suggest you put a better door than just the folding door just a thought, but really nice job, I’ve seen a lot of videos on TH-cam. This is by far one of the nicer ones seen not too crazy. But I use 4-5 millimeter Mylar bags ( keeps it dark) vacuumed pack with oxygen absorbers( keeps out potential rot problems), and throw them in sealed 5 gallon tubs( so bags don’t get punctured). This will last rice such as Jasmine or balsamati “ dried beans”10 years + .But if you freeze dried “cooked rice” it would last 30 years. But for the stuff in cans they will last maybe 2 -5years ish passed expiration. Again if you use a freeze dry machine with cooked or uncooked your looking at 15 to 30 years

@@XXROCKANDROLLPOWERXX Rice (or any other grain) has bugs in it naturally. You can either freeze-dry-freeze (freeze for 3 days, then thaw, then freeze for another 3 days, then thaw again, then can it. Or just vacuum seal it with an O2 absorber. Either method will kill the bugs. The freezing kills the bugs, then thawing causes eggs to hatch, them freezing again kills the new baby bugs. Vacuum sealing removes the O2 so they just all die. I personally wouldn't use the freeze method because it takes too long. I just vacuum seal it with an O2 absorber and call it good.
I like how organized it is but keep in mind that a lot of that food will need to be replaced soon er than later. If I had $5k to buy, I would have chosen products in the #10 cans from companies like Augason Farms that last 10 or 20 years. Also, I recommend you turn that shelf to face the other so you have more room to walk in

Yeah, I’m buying the Augason number 10 cans that he calls a gimmick because most have a 25 year shelf life and I don’t eat much canned and processed foods. I like to eat fresh so rotating prepper food isn’t for me. Also I don’t see any grains and beans in Mylar bags. Those keep 25 years as well. I’m not having much trouble getting number 10 cans right now. The wait is a little longer than usual but that doesn’t matter much for a 25 year plan.
@@sorrywrongplanet8873 I am not having trouble finding them either. I think a combination of #10 cans with food you normally buy is best. I have jars and cans that we eat regularly and keep in rotation and then the true SHTF foods that are good for 25 years. One should not have all eggs in one basket.
My only note, get regular peanut butter, the "natural" ones, i thought would be better, proved at 3 years of storage unable to be mixed. Regular PB i have had perfect at 5 years past best date.
Winner of a video, I have been researching "is it ok to feed my dog chicken every day?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Donulian Astounded Dominion - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a good one off product for discovering the secret the dog food industry is hiding without the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my friend got great results with it.
I actually eat just from whatever's in my pantry! I got no fridge so its either dehydrated stuff, canned food, or precooked meals. So long as you're mindful of your sodium intake, you'll be fine. The problem is combining what you have to make a complementary meal. But once you do find that right combo, you'd be surprised at how long you'll enjoy that combo.

We got into this about a year ago. Built up a 1-month supply, then 90 days, and now we are up to about 6 months. Now we are concentrating on rotating our stash and mylar bagging more long-term supplies. Except for the mylar, I recently realized that my parents growing up did this. They grew up just after WW2 and always had had a garden and reserve food.
That is quite a pantry and tells a lot about you... I bet you are a bachelor. Some other things you might want are candles, matches, lighters, tin foil, Batteries, popcorn, soy sauce, corn starch (for the body), lots of different kinds of canned fruits, shampoo.... well, you probably do have all those also... but you really do have quite a good and incredibly well organized pantry. I am doing a lot of my own home-canning in mason jars to add in to my pantry that really I am only part way there, but trying to get it stocked up... Space your purchases out over the course of time to keep everything from expiring on the same date. Every two months add a little more of the same item and add shelf life onto each product.
Funbubble, even though its 2 yrs old, this video has helped me greatly. I have been prepping and I bought my metal shelving used, and organized it well, and ten built wood shelving along one wall of my garage. But I learned some ideas from your video. You did good. It is helping me get even better at stocking, and replenishing my goods. So important as we get into the times ahead of us. And to think you did this all 2 yrs ago. Great planning sir. Very smart.
I put my pasta, rice, flour, grains like barley, pancake mixes, biscuit mixes, in gallon size freezer bags to keep bugs out. The freezer bags are thicker than the other ones. I don't want to lose all that stock to pests. Also I do admire your carpentry skills and it's clear that you thought this out thoroughly. You could give classes on how to build these units because not a lot of people can do this. You are very good at explaining how you do things.
@@SimonWoodburyForget thank you for keeping me in mind and correcting me to ensure that my food is safe and protected from insects and what have you. I'm not sure if I explained this correctly or not but I have decided to go with my method for several reasons. First I freeze my, for instance, pancake mix, for at least 2 full days. Often it's longer. The reason is to kill any bugs, larvae, or whatever. Then I take the entire box of pancake mix, box and all, and put it in a freezer bag. The freezer bags are heavier and more durable. Then I close the freezer bag getting as much air out as I possibly can. Then I put this in a food grade bucket and add several bay leaves to the bucket. Bay leaves are a deterrent to bugs. Then I put the lid on. This keeps the food dry, and keeps it free of outside pests with several barriers protecting it. I don't need to purchase mylar bags and only have to keep normal things on hand in my kitchen this way, avoiding the extra cost that mylar bags have. In a grid down situation I can keep things going. I hope that I've explained this to you in a way that you can understand. If not, please feel free to ask me any questions that you may have. Again, thank you for your input.
For more space to store, put the toilet paper, first aid, and other non food under your bed. Even if they are out of sight, you won’t forgot them because they’re commonly use items.
I would be concerned about carpet since if you flood that is a great start for mold. I have gone to bare concrete where I store items so it can be dried and disinfected in the event of flooding. We flood every year in our area so I focus on quick drying materials and mold remediation. If you don’t flood in your area this is a terrific setup! Practical and well organized.

Looks great. I missed some of the video so I'm not sure if you mentioned it, but will this be a working pantry? I am wondering about the shelf life and wasting money. We try to eat healthy so it's kind of tough buying all the prepackaged foods and not ever eat them.
I'm jealous. LOL I have a backup food supply but not the amount of space you do. It's just me so working up enough supply for a year wasn't that hard, but had to get creative to store it as I live in a small A Frame house. The slanted walls steals a lot of space. Glad to see you have a Jackery! I just got one too. Absolutely love it! Best thing since sliced bread! I buy my laundry soap in the large plastic containers with the spouts on them. Once they are empty and washed out well, I store water in them as well as other water bottles. I have a small portable washing machine that can be powered on my Jackery and I live on a lake and can filter that water for laundry.
More salt of every kind. Flour that's not going to go rancid quickly. Vacuum save your dry goods so they don't grow bugs. I love your pantry and I'm happy to see you have your stock for your cats too.

MultiVitamins with minerals, probitics. Extra can openers. I hope this a working pantry that is rotated. Do you have a binder with a log of inventory and best use by dates. Prices paid. Save all your receipts It makes it so easy to meal plan to be what has to be used up. Maybe an electronic inventory so you can print out. Then you can see what you need to buy on sale. New Items always goes behind the old .

Very clean, detailed setup you got there. I had the same idea of a solar panel battery for cooking, a tip I have is buying a small rice cooker or one of those heated burners from itaki which all run around 300 watt max, saving a lot of energy and you can buy a smaller battery. Your setup is exactly the type I would do in a small space for myself!

It’s beautifully done! I just threw away a basement full of expired food storage. If a person is able, I would recommend starting to eat and rotate it immediately. Especially any product with any oil or fat in it (Idahoan potatoes). I now keep all nuts and flours in the freezer. Especially bisquik, weavels dig that stuff. Check and use oils often. And this reminds me I need an extra set of Berkey filters. They expire more rapidly when filtering creek river lake stream water.
Food for thought securing the shelving so its earthquake proof and some rods in the front to secure the shef contents as well. Nothing worse than all the shelf contents and/or shelves tipping over in the big one and damaging your supplies
The Augustine farms tomatoe powder is really good. You may want to add a couple of CAT turniquets to you medical preps and some quickclot bleeding control dressings. You may even want a few sutures.

Impressive. I have a question though for people. How do you plan on cooking your food in an extended emergency. Obviously outdoors over wood would be the only solution. Also cleaning your cookware. No one ever talks about having lots of detergent soap. On hand and of course you have to have a clean water source.
not really. it’s well-organized, but most of what he bought is highly perishable. nuts go rancid quite quickly. anything with flour in it needs to be stored better than this or it will go bad quickly. even the oats need to be stored more securely to keep out bugs and other pests and also to add longevity by removing oxygen.

Love it! This is great for hurricane season or any event, for that matter. If we all had just enough things to get us through an emergency that lasted 2-4 weeks, we wouldn't stress out nearly as much. My grandparents were farmers that preserved their own food and kept at least 6 months on hand continuously. They rotated through it daily & never had anything spoil. They even canned any leftovers from dinner! TFS!
hi, yes better safe than sorry. 5k of supplies isnt much in the long run if it ends up being needed. theres a great piece of mind now that its finished and fully stocked.
Remember the items are stacked in front of others. There’s 120 pounds of oats alone. That’s over 200,000 calories. 275 calories a day, so basically two years worth of breakfast for one person, etc.
Plus the nuts don't last more then 6 to 8 months... and he has a lot to go through in a short time. Should have stocked up with canned goods. Also the two things of tp is laughable.

Just did some quick math from Walmart. $750 will get you 1700 pounds of rice, and the other $750 could get you another 1000 pounds of beans. Properly stored they will last 40 years or more. Bleach goes bad in about 6 months you might want to stock up on powdered chlorine such a shock for pools you can search for more information it was a much longer time and only a tbsp is needed to make a gallon of bleach
Pool shock is a good suggestion, plus it takes up far less room, but it would be of benefit to you to research which type to buy, one is suitable for the purpose and one is not, but I can't remember which , I'm sorry to say.

My mother loved reading about how Mormons canned food and prepped their food etc. My Dad built a pantry in our basement so they could have extra space needed for our food. At any given time we also had extra family members with us. So I guess my parents passed on their prepping gene to me LOL I'm just like you when I watch these videos it is oddly satisfying. Lol
I highly recommend using food grade buckets to place all your flour, sugar and dry foods (each packaged inside a Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers.. then seal it up inside those buckets).

My children and grands used to laugh at me and Pop for putting up food , they thought we were old fashioned or just crazy ! I can veggies , deer meat , and chicken and broth .we live in the woods and have a free flowing spring so pretty set. Can cook on the grill if electric goes. I was raised by the older generation. My dad was almost 40 when I was born. So I learned alot. My mother always canned , they always raised a big garden, jersey milk cow, hogs for pork, and chickens. So now i raise chickens, I raise a garden and my husband hunts .so we stock up on venison.

I don't know if you can rotate all of this stock before it goes rancid (nuts, oats, etc.)but this is beautifully organized and impressive. Good job.
It is food insurance. If it goes bad, you buy more. You buy car insurance and hope you don't use it. Food insurance is not a waste of money if it goes bad.
When it get's close to the expiration date, you donate it. Then, you buy more.

The oats most likely will be fine if he stored and packed it differently but yeah he definitely could keep the nuts and oils to a minimum and trade it for something with better shelf life like freeze dried foods or pasta and lentils l. The nuts and oils and nut butter go rancid after 2-3 years in a lot of cases.
Another must-have item for prepping is baking soda. I hardly ever see any channels talking about it. It's multi-purpose. Can you use it in place of soap, to brush teeth (in moderation), dress itchy bug bites, clean, bake... many more uses. Combine it with vinegar and you have a wonderful cleaning/declogging solution. It's also really cheap when bought in bulk. Get your baking soda!

I have 4 pieces of advice.
1. You can't use Bisquick, box cake and brownies mixes past the experation date. They have oils in them that will grow spores, deadly.
2. Nuts go rancid after experation date because of the oils.
3. Water, you need to purify it for long term storage. Online is instructions to do it with pool shock powder. Cheap because liquid bleach looses strength over time.
4. Buy rice, wrap in garbage bag and freeze for 2 weeks, to kill bugs and eggs. Then put in 5 gallon food safe buckets. Same for four but flour goes bad after a year.

i was going to say... kinda beginners mistake. Far better to get a freezer for fats and grains to keep them from getting rancid and keeps the bugs out. I'd say focus more on dry canning beans and legumes for shelf sto4rage. Otherwise, much better off getting an extra freezer for nuts, seeds and grains.

I have setup my stuff so I could rotate it. The canned stuff is the stuff I actually like to eat. Proper canned meat is hard to be tasty. Use the oldest products first and see what you miss. If you don't test you run into problems when it matters. Don't be the guy without matches on the block. Or clean water. Or without rubbing alcohol.

You have one very organized and well thought out emergency pantry, Funbubble, and I admire it very much. I would like to perhaps add one or two suggestions that will save you some unpleasant surprises down the road. I hope you won't mind. Your nuts are an excellent food selection, but nuts tend to go rancid over time , as soon as 6 months sometimes, unless you freeze them. If I may suggest, you can purchase a very affordable little 7 sq. ft. compact chest freezer through Costo for $265 or not too much more than that, and with a $35 UPS delivery to your door, it weighs only 70 pounds, and they make them even smaller. You can keep those nuts for years and free up space for other preps if you choose.
The other thing I noticed was a choice not to include rice. It may be that you don't like it, but it has lots of calories, and like the pasta, you can put it in water and eventually it will be cooked rice. It would be a good thing to pour over all those excellent soups you have stocked up. These are the only things I noticed that might help you further down the road. Good luck, you have a splendid storehouse, and you can be justifiably proud of it. God bless you.

he has some ramen noodles although they were in the flimsy rodent ready packages of thin plasitic- throw them and your pancake mixes in steel or galvanized buckets- trash cans (small-large) galvanized with seal tight lid is great for pouches and powders-beans, flour, noodles, mre bread, cookies, candy, etc.... a steel wall-locker is my "pantry overflow" with the max and cheese, peanut butter, paper plates, etc...

It's fine to buy two years ahead as long as you keep using what you buy so nothing goes to waste. When you go to the store you replace it. There is a whole thread on how he bought too many nuts and they are going to go bad. Better to return now so people who will use it will buy it or donate them. Beans and rice don't sound fun but that's what lasts for years and doesn't go bad if stored correctly. Otherwise you mostly need to be eat what you saved and replace it as you shop.

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem but --- When Storing water, I have had the Plastic Water containers disintegrate over time. Usually the 1 and 2-1/2 Gallon water jugs from the Grocery Store. The Plastic eventually becomes brittle and cracks. So BE CAREFUL when storing water in rooms with Carpet.
You have a great set-up. One concern I saw was that you were storing your water directly on concrete in the garage. Concrete outgases constantly. According to preparedness lecturer Kenneth Moravec: "Concrete attracts fluids and 'bleeds.' Anything that has been on or in that concrete will find its way into your plastic water barrel. This includes the lime in the concrete, any hazardous materials (i.e. gasoline, oils, kerosene or anything a contractor used in construction), algae, etc. Usually it is not enough to make the water toxic but it will taint the water enough to make the taste unbearable. And no amount of pouring it from container to container will take that taste away."
The best way to store that water is on two by fours making a pallet out of it.

Also, plastic leaches from the surrounding air. So if you keep plastic water jugs in the garage, they will absorb the lingering exhaust from the vehicles parked in the garage. Best to move them. Instead of the liquid beach i would reccomend bleach tablets for longevity and vaccume sealing and freezing the nuts also i didnt see any rice or dried beans if you are purley looking for long lasting ease of mind prepping
There's a lot of stuff in that pantry that will go bad with 2 to 3 years. Lots of money spent on things that are ready eat. Long term low maintenance prepping involves highest calorie dry foods like dry beans and rice for the dollar. He could have bought way less canned food and bought a chamber vacuum sealer and mylar bags. Vacmaster 215 is $1k, mylar bags $200, 100 lbs basmati rice $130, 100 lbs black and red beans $130, oxygen absorbers $50, 50 lbs flour $18, 20 lbs powder milk $180. All of this plus much of what he has will last a 25 years. Those nuts and oats he has, I would also vacuum seal. Don't invest in electrical cooking supplies, get propane camping oven/ cooktop. You cannot rely on the electricity being on. Ask anyone in Texas today. The whole state lost power. The gravity fed water filter is his best purchase. Water from rain, lakes, or rivers can be boiled and filtered. I enjoyed this video, but I'd tweak it quite dramatically.

@@FerventReminder you can buy the countertop sealers for less. But if you freeze or store pantry foods, the most effective are chamber sealers. You will make up for the investment in short time. Chambers are great for all thick poly bags or rolls (custom cuts), mylar for long term dry foods, and even securing Mason jars for dry food. Lastly, I've seen countertop sealers having higher fail rates on their seal. This can be due to type of bag as well. Lastly, countertop sealers rely on the one side embossed bags only. Chamber vacuum sealer can do any bag (including mylar).

Well done, Mr. Since you don’t have any of those mre’s that have a 25 year shelf life, I recommend practicing what they call FIFO ( First In, First Out) so you keep using those products but you keep on buying but put the new products in the back that way your products are never too old.

I also have a freeze drier , so when stuff starts to expire I freeze dry it and give another 10 years + to shelf life.
Hey I got a question. Stuff like rice and canned beans etc. Is it better to freeze them for a week then put in a sealed basket or jar for longevity?

But I use 4-5 millimeter Mylar bags ( keeps it dark) vacuumed pack with oxygen absorbers( keeps out potential rot problems), and throw them in sealed 5 gallon tubs( so bags don’t get punctured). This will last rice such as Jasmine or balsamati “ dried beans”10 years + .But if you freeze dried “cooked rice” it would last 30 years. But for the stuff in cans they will last maybe 2 -5years ish passed expiration. Again if you use a freeze dry machine with cooked or uncooked your looking at 15 to 30 years

@@XXROCKANDROLLPOWERXX Rice (or any other grain) has bugs in it naturally. You can either freeze-dry-freeze (freeze for 3 days, then thaw, then freeze for another 3 days, then thaw again, then can it. Or just vacuum seal it with an O2 absorber. Either method will kill the bugs. The freezing kills the bugs, then thawing causes eggs to hatch, them freezing again kills the new baby bugs. Vacuum sealing removes the O2 so they just all die. I personally wouldn't use the freeze method because it takes too long. I just vacuum seal it with an O2 absorber and call it good.

I like how organized it is but keep in mind that a lot of that food will need to be replaced soon er than later. If I had $5k to buy, I would have chosen products in the #10 cans from companies like Augason Farms that last 10 or 20 years. Also, I recommend you turn that shelf to face the other so you have more room to walk in
They do not have any more in all the stores.

He could stick wit this system as long as they eat food and rotate it out. Making it a working pantry rather than a long term pantry
Yeah, I’m buying the Augason number 10 cans that he calls a gimmick because most have a 25 year shelf life and I don’t eat much canned and processed foods. I like to eat fresh so rotating prepper food isn’t for me. Also I don’t see any grains and beans in Mylar bags. Those keep 25 years as well. I’m not having much trouble getting number 10 cans right now. The wait is a little longer than usual but that doesn’t matter much for a 25 year plan.
@@sorrywrongplanet8873 I am not having trouble finding them either. I think a combination of #10 cans with food you normally buy is best. I have jars and cans that we eat regularly and keep in rotation and then the true SHTF foods that are good for 25 years. One should not have all eggs in one basket.
My only note, get regular peanut butter, the "natural" ones, i thought would be better, proved at 3 years of storage unable to be mixed. Regular PB i have had perfect at 5 years past best date.
If you get the natural, store it upside down sealed. Rotate it back to upright for extended storage.

Winner of a video, I have been researching "is it ok to feed my dog chicken every day?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Donulian Astounded Dominion - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a good one off product for discovering the secret the dog food industry is hiding without the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my friend got great results with it.

I got no fridge so its either dehydrated stuff, canned food, or precooked meals. So long as you're mindful of your sodium intake, you'll be fine.
The problem is combining what you have to make a complementary meal. But once you do find that right combo, you'd be surprised at how long you'll enjoy that combo.

The only things I would add are:
Some type of fire starters. Magnesium and flint and steel.
A small surgery kit.
Some twine and nylon cord or rope
Duct tape
Small pocket knives
Toe nail clippers
We got into this about a year ago. Built up a 1-month supply, then 90 days, and now we are up to about 6 months. Now we are concentrating on rotating our stash and mylar bagging more long-term supplies. Except for the mylar, I recently realized that my parents growing up did this. They grew up just after WW2 and always had had a garden and reserve food.
That is quite a pantry and tells a lot about you... I bet you are a bachelor. Some other things you might want are candles, matches, lighters, tin foil, Batteries, popcorn, soy sauce, corn starch (for the body), lots of different kinds of canned fruits, shampoo.... well, you probably do have all those also... but you really do have quite a good and incredibly well organized pantry. I am doing a lot of my own home-canning in mason jars to add in to my pantry that really I am only part way there, but trying to get it stocked up... Thank you for taking time to post a good video ... Well done!

OCP, liking things in order and things bugging you when they’re not in order, is not the same thing as OCD, which is a debilitating disorder.

Space your purchases out over the course of time to keep everything from expiring on the same date.
Every two months add a little more of the same item and add shelf life onto each product.

Funbubble, even though its 2 yrs old, this video has helped me greatly. I have been prepping and I bought my metal shelving used, and organized it well, and ten built wood shelving along one wall of my garage. But I learned some ideas from your video. You did good. It is helping me get even better at stocking, and replenishing my goods. So important as we get into the times ahead of us. And to think you did this all 2 yrs ago. Great planning sir. Very smart.
Maybe keep a spreadsheet of expiration dates with items, especially if you wouldn't look often at the box.

I put my pasta, rice, flour, grains like barley, pancake mixes, biscuit mixes, in gallon size freezer bags to keep bugs out. The freezer bags are thicker than the other ones. I don't want to lose all that stock to pests. Also I do admire your carpentry skills and it's clear that you thought this out thoroughly. You could give classes on how to build these units because not a lot of people can do this. You are very good at explaining how you do things.
@@SimonWoodburyForget thank you for keeping me in mind and correcting me to ensure that my food is safe and protected from insects and what have you. I'm not sure if I explained this correctly or not but I have decided to go with my method for several reasons. First I freeze my, for instance, pancake mix, for at least 2 full days. Often it's longer. The reason is to kill any bugs, larvae, or whatever. Then I take the entire box of pancake mix, box and all, and put it in a freezer bag. The freezer bags are heavier and more durable. Then I close the freezer bag getting as much air out as I possibly can. Then I put this in a food grade bucket and add several bay leaves to the bucket. Bay leaves are a deterrent to bugs. Then I put the lid on. This keeps the food dry, and keeps it free of outside pests with several barriers protecting it. I don't need to purchase mylar bags and only have to keep normal things on hand in my kitchen this way, avoiding the extra cost that mylar bags have. In a grid down situation I can keep things going. I hope that I've explained this to you in a way that you can understand. If not, please feel free to ask me any questions that you may have. Again, thank you for your input.

For more space to store, put the toilet paper, first aid, and other non food under your bed. Even if they are out of sight, you won’t forgot them because they’re commonly use items.
I would be concerned about carpet since if you flood that is a great start for mold. I have gone to bare concrete where I store items so it can be dried and disinfected in the event of flooding. We flood every year in our area so I focus on quick drying materials and mold remediation. If you don’t flood in your area this is a terrific setup! Practical and well organized.

Get the vinegar/water bottles off concrete. Didn't see a barrier between bottles and the floor. They can leach chemicals.

Looks great. I missed some of the video so I'm not sure if you mentioned it, but will this be a working pantry? I am wondering about the shelf life and wasting money. We try to eat healthy so it's kind of tough buying all the prepackaged foods and not ever eat them.
I'm jealous. LOL I have a backup food supply but not the amount of space you do. It's just me so working up enough supply for a year wasn't that hard, but had to get creative to store it as I live in a small A Frame house. The slanted walls steals a lot of space. Glad to see you have a Jackery! I just got one too. Absolutely love it! Best thing since sliced bread! I buy my laundry soap in the large plastic containers with the spouts on them. Once they are empty and washed out well, I store water in them as well as other water bottles. I have a small portable washing machine that can be powered on my Jackery and I live on a lake and can filter that water for laundry.
More salt of every kind. Flour that's not going to go rancid quickly. Vacuum save your dry goods so they don't grow bugs. I love your pantry and I'm happy to see you have your stock for your cats too.

It makes it so easy to meal plan to be what has to be used up. Maybe an electronic inventory so you can print out. Then you can see what you need to buy on sale. New Items always goes behind the old .
But it lets you know when you bought it. If I buy something and it not being used, better to invest buying another item is being used up much sooner.

I started prepping 5 gallon 35 year shelf life food 8 years. Hubby thought I was a lunatic. Not so much now.

Very clean, detailed setup you got there. I had the same idea of a solar panel battery for cooking, a tip I have is buying a small rice cooker or one of those heated burners from itaki which all run around 300 watt max, saving a lot of energy and you can buy a smaller battery. Your setup is exactly the type I would do in a small space for myself!

I suggest you put the nuts in a freezer. Those oils will go rancid in time. In shell nuts last a bit longer. Good job on the room and your efforts

It’s beautifully done! I just threw away a basement full of expired food storage. If a person is able, I would recommend starting to eat and rotate it immediately. Especially any product with any oil or fat in it (Idahoan potatoes). I now keep all nuts and flours in the freezer. Especially bisquik, weavels dig that stuff. Check and use oils often. And this reminds me I need an extra set of Berkey filters. They expire more rapidly when filtering creek river lake stream water.
Food for thought securing the shelving so its earthquake proof and some rods in the front to secure the shef contents as well. Nothing worse than all the shelf contents and/or shelves tipping over in the big one and damaging your supplies

The Augustine farms tomatoe powder is really good. You may want to add a couple of CAT turniquets to you medical preps and some quickclot bleeding control dressings. You may even want a few sutures.

Impressive. I have a question though for people. How do you plan on cooking your food in an extended emergency. Obviously outdoors over wood would be the only solution. Also cleaning your cookware. No one ever talks about having lots of detergent soap. On hand and of course you have to have a clean water source.
Nicely done. I’ve got about 50 pounds of nuts vacuum packed in mylar for about ten years. I think I’ll open one up this weekend and see how they are.

not really. it’s well-organized, but most of what he bought is highly perishable. nuts go rancid quite quickly. anything with flour in it needs to be stored better than this or it will go bad quickly. even the oats need to be stored more securely to keep out bugs and other pests and also to add longevity by removing oxygen.
He has a lot but I have one up on him. I have a spare refrigerator holding all my canned and jar foods to extend expirations.

Love it! This is great for hurricane season or any event, for that matter. If we all had just enough things to get us through an emergency that lasted 2-4 weeks, we wouldn't stress out nearly as much. My grandparents were farmers that preserved their own food and kept at least 6 months on hand continuously. They rotated through it daily & never had anything spoil. They even canned any leftovers from dinner! TFS!
hi, yes better safe than sorry. 5k of supplies isnt much in the long run if it ends up being needed. theres a great piece of mind now that its finished and fully stocked.

Remember the items are stacked in front of others. There’s 120 pounds of oats alone. That’s over 200,000 calories. 275 calories a day, so basically two years worth of breakfast for one person, etc.

Just did some quick math from Walmart. $750 will get you 1700 pounds of rice, and the other $750 could get you another 1000 pounds of beans. Properly stored they will last 40 years or more. My food supply looks much different than this, and is far superior.
