    I have this amp, plus the 12" extension cabinet. It sounds so great, even after 20+ years! This is a very good demo of what the amp is capable of. Thanks, guy!

    I have a 1998 VS 100 head with both original cabinets. The only thing I did to it was change the pre amp tube to a premium ,long plate JJ 12AX7. I have never had a problem with this amp for 4 years now. This is a great amp with good Marshall sound.

    I absolutely love my VS100. The only problem with these amps is the damn foot foot switches break so easily.

    Perfect review. I remember when the Valve State amps came out, nice to see and hear they've stood the test of time. Theyre very versatile - if I had the space (Ive four amps already, dating back forty years 😮) Id have another, they were a great idea. Some of that mosfet style circuitry is dying in my beloved Session amp, seems like the Marshall VS amps are even longer lived✌️👍💜😊

    Great review. I just wanted to clarify one thing, AC/DC actually has very clean tones and use very little gain, I think the clean channel would actually be best for it

      That’s correct.
      Young’s signal chain is very simplistic but has top of the line ingredients. The rest is all in the hands and playing touch.
      Simple chain: 50 to 100 watt Marshall heads (2203 and Super Leads) with a Schaffer system, but only Angus Young can play like Angus Young.

    I bought a Marshall VS100 in 2001 and it's the only stage amp I've used for 23 years. I love it. I've played hundreds of live shows with it and It's a freaking workhorse. I still have a Marshall Mosfet Lead 100 that I bought in 1995, but I bought the the Marshall VS100 1x12 combo because I got tired of lugging huge 4x12 cabinets around (I got lazy in my old age! LOL!). Only one speaker is usually miked up through P.A. anyway and 100 watts is more than sufficient for a stage monitor. For larger rooms, I'll run a 30 foot speaker cable to the other side of the stage and angle a second stereo 1x12 cabinet toward the other band members and save the wedge monitors strictly for vocals. I makes for a big sound onstage. I only use my 50 watt 1985 Marshall JCM800 for studio recording. I bought the JCM in 1992 and used it for live gigs up untiI bought the lighter, less worrisome Mosfet. I changed out the JCM's Groove Tubes once about 20 years ago and I've saved any wear and tear on them for the studio. They're still groovin' to this day. The Marshall VS100 is as solid and road worthy as any Marshall I've ever owned and they sound just as great!

    Valvestate amps are the best sounding cheap amps you can get in my opinion. I have owned several and the best sounding one I have found is the AVT50h head. Put any overdrive booster in front of it and it will sound bad ass, the Marshall roar is almost better on that amp, its like the made it an over achiever in that regard. There light, they great sounding and CHEAP. They make a great backup amp and good for at home use because they sound good at any level. I have some vids of samples from my AVT.

      "I always liked the sound f this amplifier. I never owned one, but I remember I played 2 or 3 gigs with it like in 2000-2002 - there was little time to switch bands' instruments on stage, so I played on this amp but it was owned by guys who played before us. Anyway - I remember the sound of it was like really pleasant to me, I truly remembered it simply pleasing me and it felt really good under my fingers. It was like my fingers followed this amp and vice versa really well. Not too hard, a hybrid between very sensitive valve part of it but powerful for the state part of it. I don't know, I just really liked it and I would surely want to have it in my rig, just even to please myself. It's a good one IMO." - I posted that above, but then I saw your comment and wanted to let you know I share your view. In reference to the VS100 not the AVT50 you mention here. Cheers.

    Next time you should leave the EQ at noon when reviewing the overdrive channels and move it as you go. You give a completely different impression of the sound when scooping all the mids or cranking the bass, mate :B

    I own a VS102R, which is somewhat similar to the VS100. Mine has two 12"s but the controls are pretty much the same. I've owned mine for about 17 years. I love it. It has a really nice BIG sound with plenty of gain and crunch when I want it. I think the Marshall Valvestates are sleepers. Good value, excellent amps.

    I bought this amp for $100 when i first started, still have it in my room for practice. Its sounds good for heavier rock or if you just like the Marshall sound. Definitely sounds better when blasted. Still enjoy playing it even though i got my Vox Ac30tbx.

    Great amp. I have 2 vs100s. I run it through a older carvin 412 cab. It has 4 12 in eminence British voice drivers. Good thump sustain and distortion. Great amp for low volumes as well. And of course marshall won't make them again. Had a marshall vs 8100 head. Great amp. They don't need a boost pedal. Enjoyed the demo video.

    Well it has a jcm 900 type of sound to me. So that is good. I like fuzz pedal and Marshall’s. I made the mistake of listening to gear snobs on TH-cam. It’s old it’s ghetto. Well guess that means in the 80s and 90s it was all ghetto then. So to me old gear is in. The heck with gear snobbery. I never hated the metal zone or the MG either so.

  • @neilsnow7973
    @neilsnow7973 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a Marshall Valvestate AVT275. It's heavy as hell. It sounds like Dog Shit! The clean channels don't sound too bad, I prefer the regular clean channel instead of the so called acoustic emulator channel, and with a compression pedal you can get a descent crunch breakup...but the 2 overdrive channels sound terrible, and get worse as you turn the gain up. OD2 is the worst. OD1 isn't bad if the gain is dialed back quite a bit and a compression pedal is added for boost and gain makeup. It sings okay that way, but I think a Tube screamer pedal and the compression pedal on the clean channel would be way better than the OD channels. This amp you are playing through sounds way better than my giant beast of a door stop. Mine just sounds fizzy and harsh on the OD channels. It's also way to heavy to cart around to gigs. I hate moving it. I think it weighs more than my old 4x12 cab I used to have. I may be selling it...I just don't use it and would prefer to sell it to someone who would. I don't use overdrive pedals, I have better amps with good overdrive already, so getting a tube screamer or any other OD pedal would be a waste of money for me.
