Surf Runner 25 Power Boat Hull Flip

  • Video documents how we flipped the Sam Devlin designed Surf Runner 25 foot power boat that I'm building at home. The hull was built with a stitch and glue method, upside-down, on the building frame. After completely finishing the hull to the point of priming and painting the bottom, it was time to flip it right-side-up, to finish the inside. Will paint the hull sides later. Estimated weight is 1500 lbs.
The main goal for flipping this boat was to not hurt anyone, nor to have anybody exert excessive physical effort. Next, to not hurt the boat, nor the garage. And finally, to have the boat end of level fore-and-aft, and side-to-side. This was a trick as the garage floor is not level. The hull was level to waterline prior to flip. Also, there is not room in this garage to roll the boat over on the ground, and I didn't want to drag it outside to roll it over either.
There are a few minor things I'd do differently next time, but overall it went quite smoothly and all goals were accomplished. Now to get on with finishing the boat. :-)

I hope this helps some future boat-flippers. Sure wish I had this video before I started thinking about how to flip this boat!

Very nice. I was the second owner of the original Surfrunner 25. I have nothing but good things to say about the boat. I wish I still had it! I'm anxious to follow the rest of the build.

She looks like a pretty stout V and sharp up front. Has anyone made one before? I wonder how she runs through a chop.. I hope you keep putting updates!! Looks great
