When Formal talks about Halo 2 online being a special time he’s not lying. If you lived through that period, you know. If you were online back then you felt like a pioneer, it was insane to be in your room playing with up to 15 other random people. I can’t put it into words that do it justice, I’m just glad I got to experience it.
It honestly made me sad when he was talking about it. I played mcc few months ago on CTF Zanzibar and it brought me back to when I was a teenager playing with my classmates. Greed has ruined video games

Random FormaL story:
During the Halo Reach days I played with a lot of pros pretty regularly. One night, around 2AM, my buddy and I are in an XBL party enjoying some matchmaking. Out of nowhere, FormaL joins the chat (he was on my friends list, but I haven't played too much with him). He proceeded to just stay in our party chat, uninvited, for hours while he watched Blade II. Looking back, I have no idea why any of this happened but it indeed did lol met him later that year in Raleigh at an MLG event. Solid dude for sure, happy to see his success.

When Halo 2 was out, it was a phenomenon, literally. It was the biggest FPS game at the time and everyone I knew played it. It was near the beginning of Xbox Live and the game itself revolutionized online gaming in terms of party chat, messaging, friends lists and severs other features. I would play it from 3pm until bedtime every single day. Playing with people from all over the world who were also addicted to the game. It was the peak of FPS gaming. If you played it when it was out, you know exactly what I’m talking about

I'm with FormaL 100% about Halo 2. It's the fkn GOAT. The MJ of FPS. Not just because of the game. But the population and community it created. The competitiveness that was there, even on the social level. Everyone talked. LIke he said, if you were there to experience it you understand. NO GAME has reached that level since.

Also, nobody has mentioned he’s partially responsible for hotel windows not opening anymore. His friends were throwing things out the Marriott window at his first event and now hotel windows don’t open hahaha impacting societal change this guy. Not just esports
31 year old here - halo 2 was the best era of gaming of all time. I have countless nights of eating pizza/mountain dew playing all game types under the sun (tremors on coag, foundation zombies, superbouncing every bounce possible, sword cancelling up headlongs tallest building... the list goes on) I specifically remember getting my 35 on slayer, I couldn't believe it. I was so pumped to show all my friends the next day when they got on and tell all my boys at school lol. I also remember hitting my first double shot and killing a kid on top of the ring at sanctuary - what a time to be alive.
Sorry Optic didn't play well in the grand finals. Hope formal returns.

Formal is the GOAT. I don’t think we’ll see this level of talent for a long time. I remember watching him back on Ambush in Halo 4 and just being stunned watching how good he is and continued that domination through COD. Dudes currently at a 1.67 kd in the HCS World championship 2023 and it’s not even up for debate who the best player is in the building right now.
The level of competition is way higher now than it was back in the day. Ogre 2 is a legend but to be able to switch back and forth between two high level FPS games and win consistently, it's gonna be a long time before we see that again. @@joerowland9128
