I found that remark quite interesting, specially coming from Arthur Morgan, a gunslinger.
No wars a good war, but the reasons to justify war can be positively and well intended, a war to overthrow tyranny etc… I’d say there certainly can be good wars, or at least good enough to have a better outcome for society, or better than it was before the war….

@@andrewryan4417 The "not quite right in the head but still want to be loved" type. I've genuinely never met a stolen Valor person before. I've known a few vets. Some were cool and some were assholes, no different than anybody else. But I feel sympathy for the broken folks. Although I don't condone the stolen Valor part.

While I get what you're saying...I do not believe he ever served in any war or the military for that matter. You have to understand...a good portion of the country was still wild in 1899 and medical treatment wasn't anything like we have today. Any wound he received in his arm could have resulted in amputation. Hell, we know bug mountain cats, alligators, timberwolves and bears can all be found within the region. I'm sorry, I don't buy into it at all.
However, that doesn't mean I mistreat Micky when I play. Even during my pure evil playthroughs where I play as a literal highwayman in-between populated areas I have never intentionally hurt him. I have had playthroughs where I gunned down over 1,000 strangers, scores of lawmen, and bounty hunters a plenty but never Micky. He's just a lost soul in need of a friend and I'm happy to help.
for real like he's forgetting so much so fast and war does that to you it causes horrible things to your mental state and frankly speaking i kind of think mickey might be on the spectrum but its the 1800s so of course no gave a shit and that just makes me think coupled with that and the fact that he's been alone for so long he might have WANTED to forget i mean its never explained who that friend that died was and for all we know he got dishonorably discharged and was seen as a bit of a disgrace wouldn't YOU want to forget all of that too. He forgets such little things but he still remembers arthur in the end if only in the way he treated him and thats something that mickey wouldn't want to forget i think he just wants to forget all the bad in his life.

I did the weird the glitch where pointing your binoculars at a bartender makes them shoot you. One time when I did it the bartender took a sawed off shotgun and shot mickey right in the chest, killing him instantly. I then hogtied the bartender and set him on fire. #Mickey4Life

When Mickey forgot Arthur's name, and John immediately knew who he was talking about, I got really choked up. Amazing how Arthur might not be remembered historically, but individually will be cherished.
He had his journal and I can definitely see Arthur writing about Mickey and drawing him

Perhaps Arthur believes in fidelity, monogamy... He has opportunities with women though doesn't pursue them.

@@dash1141 Or maybe he's just at that age when he knows he doesn't have what women want, whatever it is they want. He's always on the move, a bit of a loner, no time to actually get to know people, and is duty bound. I empathize with Arthur, he's a tired man in a changing world. Mary Linton is the only person he had a chance with since he was young then and they had the time to bond. I too personally would rather just be alone than try all over again.
On my first playthrough after finding out Mickey faked being a soldier, I ended up scaring him away with a warning shot. Then in my 2nd playthrough I found out he did it from being lonely, now I say hello every time I head into Valentine since I can relate to him. Life can be a lonely hell sometimes, especially with my age.

Mickey is one of my favourite characters, seeing him sad over Arthur's sickness broke my heart and hearing John tell him he died crushed it even more

Mickey is always a sight for sore eyes and a joy to talk to and even though he isn’t a Civil War veteran it’s crazy how many Civil War veterans became homeless after the war like Joe Butler in Rhodes it’s honestly quite sad.
Homelessness, alcoholism, and suicide became much more rampant post civil war just like after the Vietnam war. As the soldiers on both sides definitely experienced what we know know is PTSD. But back then there was no such thing and you’d just be considered a coward and not manly. And especially for the southern troops where some of them returned home to nothing, with their houses and property sometimes being completely destroyed due to the war. I know I saw an account somewhere that talked about some of the soldiers in a hospital and when a thunderstorm came through a lot of the men freaked out because the thunder sounded like cannon fire to them.
A poor confederate veteran fought a lost war came home to nothing we had it worse :(

But now we are all Americans, as a Texan I’m very proud of my state and as an American I am proud of my countrymen. Knowing the mistakes of our present and past

I like to think Mickey asked Tommy to hold him like he asks Arthur in their first encounter, and that's why Tommy beat him up. Mickey even says he was asking for it....

That story is so deep for such a minor character so much emotion i wish all games aimed to make details like that

When I played this, I actually thought it pointed toward Mickey having had a childhood fever since he said "they told me I was dying, only I never did." I thought that would explain why he was a bit underdeveloped (for lack of a better word) mentally and why he appears to have had trouble holding down a job, making friends, etc. Of course, the beauty of these games is the fact there are so many unanswered questions and people's stories to explore, just like real life.

Mickey probably represents the futility of Arthur's lifestyle. Being a lawless gang member holds the same value as lying about being a war hero. during their last convo, Arthur and mickey both realized they spent their lives holding up something false.

On my first playthrough, I accidentally strangled him on my first encounter. I felt awful. Next time he saw he said "hey, mister! Please don't beat me up again, mister". Made my eyes watery

He admits he lied, but can we really know if anything he says is true. The damage could have given him disassociative disorder of some kind
when i saw mickey in the epilogue, the only thing i wanted to do was tell him the name he forgot was Arthur, and i was so sad i almost genuinely cried.
Always shed a tear when playing as John and hearing the people Arthur talked to talk about him and their interactions they had with him such a nice detail I love
Something that happened to me that I found strange was when he went to walk into the bar I aimed my pistol at him from behind and a guy on the porch of the bar laughed at me and said what are u aiming at ghosts. There was 2 guys on the porch who seemed like they couldn’t see him. He then went and got a drink at the bar so im not really sure what it was all about
Here’s my theory. It’s obvious he actually has lost his arm. And he does have a civil war uniform. It’s also common knowledge that wars give people PTSD, but it’s also possible that a mix of PTSD and even brain damage (which explains his forgetfulness and other peculiarities about Mickey) has tricked him into thinking his whole life is a lie. Maybe he was in the war but he got so messed up he doesn’t know.
I agree. I find it rather odd that he's missing his arm and going around town wearing a Confederate uniform because from what I know, one can't just wear a military outfit in public without serving, unless he stole it but he seems like he kind of lost himself due all he's seen in the war.

I was able to get all these to trigger in Ch2, I'm not sure how but I did spend months in-game time in that chapter without pushing the story missions forward so maybe I broke some timer.

The interaction after you get diagnosed is honestly one of my favourite, as it's very simple yet one of the most honest reactions to such news

Mickey is one of those characters that just hits you in the right spot and is just a character who through a little chat can make you feel like he is your best friend and all I have to to say is to those who need it a virtual hug from me to you
I do believe mickey served, but he's been repressing his own thoughts and memories. It's unexplainable how he lost his arm and got the uniform without it.

You can actually encounter him multiple times in chapter 2, I believe I encountered him 4 times. If you encounter him after the big fight in chapter 2 he brings up the fact that you were in it

I never realized i could get so attached to characters in a game until i first played rdr2.
Totally unrelated but the music playing during the interactions with Mickey in your vid gives me Davy Jones vibes, sounds like his music box.
Yeah I think that piece of music is based on the Davy Jones theme. I heard it once before and now in this video and I figured it was like an adaptation or something.
Mickey is a beautiful character that really solidified my view that this game really was the best I’ve ever played.
He wore his heart on his sleeve and never asked Arthur for money, only friendship.
And in the chapter 6 play through, when Arthur looked like a stage 4 cancer patient, he knew he was sick. When he asked if he was alright, Arthur was actually honest, and said no.
There was no need to pretend he was fine, when he was talking to Mickey.
Also should be noted that very few people actually seemed to recognize he was sick. Mickey was genuinely concerned, and when he found out he was dying, it really made him upset.
Just subtle details in this game make me love it even more

Mickey was definitely my favorite background character, I just loved finding him all the time.
I’ve met people Like Mickey. Men without the greatest social skills but with a desire and need for that social interaction. They are always a pleasure to talk to. They tend to be odd folk but they are absolutely wonderful people. Plus I actually have a form of autism so I do have a bit of sympathy for a man on the outside of society
This character in particular always made me feel so truly sad and brought a few tears to my eyes as well too. Mickey touched my heart to say the very least.

Anyone realize when Mickey said "like a King" it could have something to do with Jacks book. In the Epilogue in his book there is a king named Arthur.

I like how Mickey talked about his Uncle named Arthur and said it sounds like the name of a king. Jack looks at Arthur like an uncle and Sean calls him King Arthur, the former even reads a book about Knights at the Round Table and bringing up King Arthur reminded John of him.
He kind of reminds me of Stede Bonnet from Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.

Arthur Morgan is a great protagonist because he captures something rarely done in media anymore.
A human protagonist. Not just of species, but of soul. Hes not a good man, hes not a bad man. Hes just a man doing his best, and like all of us its really ever enough.

This is how you know this is such a good game, these interactions didn't have to happen but they did, not only did you meet a feller but in a way it built on Arthur some more. Rockstar can make some good campaigns..I'll say that much
A lot of veterans have a lot of strangeness after fighting in a war it simply happens due to all the violence of it but it happens to not a lot of real veterans

I think maybe Mickey killed someone who served for the Union in the Civil War. Durring one of the early dialogs we have we have with him he says something like "they say I killed a man, but it isn't true" (or something along those lines) maybe thats how he got the uniform, and says he saw real bad things. Not sure just a thought:)

Usually when I begin my Valentine rampage massacres I start with Mickey. Probably will choose someone else from now on because I now feel bad for murdering such a lonely guy.

By his uniform, he is likely a late Indian war vet, as his uniform uses white piping which was became the piping for US infantry in 1885 to approximately 1899 along with his style of kepi hes wearing.
When John was talking to Mickey I heard the Discord sound I was like this is a serious moment and Discord gives you a message
i actually enjoyed Mikey. as a side character, it really shows how homelessness isn't just being homeless. it causes a long term effect. of mental illness. because the mental abuse of people either ignoring you or treating you like a rat. and or yelling things like get a Job you bum or just saying nothing at all. i always treated Mikey kindly with both Arthur and John. sort of reminds me of my old job i had pushing carts for a store, there was this homeless man who always came around picking up plastic bottles and cans ( peoples litter ) and using the outside can and bottle crusher machine to get some money and go get a burger from McDonalds. once i seen that he wasnt using the money for drugs or alcohol. i would talk with him for hours. and learned his story. and always bought a second lunch when i went on my break. and we sat talked and had lunch. he was very wise. and i actually got him a job. at the store i pushed carts for. i managed to convince the store manager to higher him weekends. he turned his life around quickly once the job helped him out. he got a new ID card and SSN. and his life is now so much better still have his #Number today we text and call every so often. hes doing so well..
i did the encounter with Mickey after Hamish passed away, and he told arthur he'd miss him a lot and that tipped me over the edge and I absolutely bawled my eyes out

I treated him well as I saw him as a homeless veteran from the start and I wanted to help him out even though he isn't a veteran I'm still going to be nice to him
