    In 1976 only 46 Continental Mark IV were built with this option package. This is most likely one of few still that still exist.

    From the time American Luxury cars ruled the road.I was in high school in 1986 but was lucky enough to have a chance to drive one of these cars. Nothing will replace the road or power of an American V8.

    I've looked high and low for any reference of the Continental division being reactivated in 1968 and found nothing. In terms of there being no Lincoln identification being on the car, just remember, Thunderbird was in the same boat during that era to put it on a peg above the other Fords. Lincoln did the same with the Mark. Still, a fantastic car and still classy after 43 years. They made these from March through July of '76 and was a $552 option for the trim package. The texture for the vinyl roof is straight from the T-Bird from 1968-71. Beautiful ride and I wish I could make an offer that the owner couldn't refuse.

      @1983jblack 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanna provide an update: While the Continental division was still nonexistent during these years, the cars were indeed classified as Continental and not Lincoln. It says this in brochures, TV commercials and Ford's Video brochures as well. But, title wise, it is classified as a Lincoln. Continental was a sub marque above Lincoln to give it that exclusiveness that it's above Lincoln. This was done for Marks III-VII through 1986.

      This is a Continental from Lincoln Mercury Division.
      Regardless where you look in the literature from Ford Motor Company and Lincoln Mercury Division, it is referred to as Continental.
      The Lincoln Continentals are throghout different cars.

      the Product Facts Book - which is the guide book for sales personal
      a whole library of brochures
      the Lincoln Buyer's guide
      the Car Shop Manual - where Continental Mark IV share chapters with Thunderbird - Lincoln Continental has seperate chapters.
      The Television commercials speak for themselves:

    In 1976 I was in a Ford dealership in western Sydney, waiting to pickup my new Ford. Parked in the front of the dealership was a 1976 Continental Mk.IV which was owned by the dealer principal , one of the senior salesman went out to moose the car, and it would not start. I walked over to the car and said what’s the problem, he said it won’t start, l said do up the seat belt, and it started at once. His reply was a real smart bastard eh, I responded, no I just know my cars which apparently you don’t.

All Lincolns from 1961 through 1979 except the Versailles were Lincoln Continentals or Lincoln Continental Marks. My four door also did not say “Lincoln” anywhere on it. I loved it but got tired of fixing shit every week. When it needed a $300 driveshaft I got rid of it. I have to say the climate control worked perfectly and it didn’t use a drop of oil.

    I don't like the big bumpers. I'd much rather have the 1972 mark 4 Lincoln The bumpers are so much better looking there tapered to the car astheticly much more appealing look to the car. Especially the way it inhances the grill by making it look taller and much more finer looking too and only the 72 has that look and the previous year just ain't nearly as nice looking with the mark 3 platform

    Beautiful and rare car, yes, but Sir, there were several hundred Black Diamond Fire Luxury Group Marks built that year, and as a matter of historical fact, this car is NOT a Continental, by make..... The actual Continental Division of Ford Motor Company ceased to exist in the spring of 1957, though some very early 1958s were erroneously titled as Continentals instead of Lincolns. I'd bet you dinner that your 1976 Mark IV there is titled as a Lincoln. The Continental Mark IV was the flagship of the Lincoln lineup for 1976 yes, but indeed it fell under the moniker and nameplate of the Lincoln Mercury Division, there is no disputing this, whatsoever.

    • @tonyblaine780
      @tonyblaine780 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sir, while you are correct in that the actual Continetal Division ceased to exist in 1957, you need to check your facts and Ford Motor Company history. In 1968, Ford Motor Company began marketing the 1969 Mark III as it's own make, Continental, marketed and sold through Lincoln Mercury Division. This continued with the "Mark" series of automobiles until the 1986 Model year. The "make" as listed on the Ohio title is Continental; said document is a matter of public record and can be viewed on the Ohio BMV website. I am available for dinner most evenings and weekends and I prefer my filet mignon rare.

    • @scottanderson3285
      @scottanderson3285 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tonyblaine780 Sorry Tony, even thought the Mark III was touted as a Continental Mark III, every single title that ever came as a MSO out of Wixom said LINCOLN on it. The last of the "Continentals" titled as such bled thru a short while for 1958 before the respective state DMVs could catch up. You show me proof of a Mark III being licensed or titled as such, and that Filet Mignon is yours......

    • @scottanderson3285
      @scottanderson3285 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's quite easy to photocopy the title, black out any owner's name...... show us some proof. Because with NO exceptions, no post 1958 automobile left the Wixom Plant here in suburban Detroit with a MSO stating CONTINENTAL under make. If one state flubbed on one title in 1976, it is clerical error. There is many ways to verify this with Ford Motor Co, The Benson Ford Archives at Greenfield Village and several authorities in the LIncoln & Continental Owners Club.

    • @tonyblaine780
      @tonyblaine780 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps it is a clerical error. I suppose its possible. In my nearly 35 years of retailing new vehicles seeing MSO's transferred to title, I've never seen a state mess up the make of vehicle. For what it's worth, the Lincoln and Continental Owners Club lists the make for Mark III as Continental. Perhaps we're both right to some degree and both wrong to some degree... My friends Mark III and Mark IV are both actually titled with the make as "Lincoln-Continental". Both on Ohio titles. Who really knows? I'd upload some photos but apparently TH-cam doesn't allow photos in the comments. I'd be happy to share with you via email or PM.
