- In this video, I explore how to change the oil & filter and the spark plugs. I used crude Honda 10w40 oil and a Fram filter. I replaced the generic off-brand plugs with NGK. Started and ran smoothly
Loving the content. Fantastic work you'll soon start growing with this sort of content.
Anti Seize is no longer necessary on modern plugs since the threads are zinc platted. Just keep in mind if the threads are shinny, you don't need Anti Seize.
That’s great to know. Thank you!!!
I have same bike but to be honest in much better shape as far as esthetics. But thanks for the vid I am going to do this as well.
HandNrocK you’re welcome!
The orange plug at the bottom is the oil indicator.
Guessing the Maxim's still running, and there's been no further efforts being made at present. Safe travels and best wishes.
Murray Kriner hello! Sorry for all the delays. I got a plan for it now. My life came to a halt from the pandemic in my profession so been side tracked. Hope to get an update video up soon
@@kevinon4wheels can appreciate the reasoning behind putting our immediate concerns ahead of our own personal cares. You chose one of the easiest to care for makes, model's, and year's to put back in working order. So glad you got her up and running as you did, since they make some of the best bike's to restore and ride for someone who doesn't want to bury all their livelihood into. Pray your very well, and most healthy, Kevin. Best wishes.
Murray Kriner thank you Murray! You as well
@@kevinon4wheels have a great weekend my friend. Hope we talk again very soon. Take care brother.
Murray Kriner thanks again! You as well!

Hello Jorge. Thanks! Enjoy your XJ!
Was hoping to find a video on replacing the front brakes. I need to replace mine, but I can't figure out how to get the caliper off
Hi Shane. The brake calipers on the front is very simple. I can pop a video up for you in the next few days.
@@kevinon4wheels Thanks that would be awesome!
Hi Shane. I apologize my week went sideways. I'll get the video to you in the next few days if you didn't take it off yet
@@kevinon4wheels Hey. I finally got my Haynes repair manual in the other day and was able to figure it out. Thanks
@@shanebrainerd1644 Awesome!
This may be a long shot but could you help me get my x 650 started? when I go to start it the relay/solenoid clicks but the starter doesn't turn or attempt to turn
If you clean out the tics vacuum rail it will idle much smoother and the throttle response will get crisper. But nice work man.
Thanks! I will do that!
It's stamped on the cover right above the rear brake lever.
Nice
The preferred oil for these engines is 20w40 or 20w50
Thank you! I’ll know for next change
Nope
Just got a 81 XJ550 that needs to new carb intake boots as well. Did you end up replacing yours? If so what kind did you use?
Hello. I bought new ones from eBay, went to install, broke the first stud I tried to loosen. I epoxied the crack in it and never looked back. Ha ha
@@kevinon4wheels thank you for the quick response! Gotta sync my carbs so I’ll probably put the new boots on at the same time
Did I miss the spark plug replacement...?
Yeah I did Haha
What did u put in that orange thing?
That was my makeshift gas tank. Gasoline straight into the carbs
Hey, After pouring the oil, how long did you wait for before starting the engine ?
Very nice bike for $ 250 and good job to. But maybe best to synch carburators after all this work !?
What type of fram filter exactly? I just got a 1982 xj650 and am new to this
It is a cartridge filter. Part CH6003. I am new to this too so we will learn together. Ha ha
Thank you very much. I just changed the oil today and this video helped me so much.
@@TJ-uh8kr You're welcome! It was a learning experience for me
Whatever happened to your maxim? The videos just stopped :(
Howdy. I still have it! I have a project in that works for it. Had a baby last year and my life was turned upside down. I’ll be getting more videos up hopefully soon! Thank you!
Well thanks for completely skipping over where to dump the oil in
Hello everyone!
Does anyone know how many litres of oil they need? Is 2.3 lt correct?
Thank you
Howdy. I remember it was stamped on the side. I think 2.3 L is right
สวัสดี ครับ 😍😍😍
