Props to Simon and Graeme for what they said about John Robertson “Now that’s a player” young fans won’t know. On Man City, Simon talking from a business point of view not actually from a “Fair Play” point of view. Maybe that’s why the Premier League changed the name of the regulations, because it’s certainly not being done fairly. It penalises a club that’s promoted to the Premier league because its owner has tried to invest and keep the club in the league. Basically making the league a closed shop, and the top 4 or 5 an exclusive club. That’s the real reason the ace I’ve eats of Clough and Taylor will never be repeated, it’s no longer possible to rise from modest backgrounds to the top. The top clubs used to have a few of the best players in the country, they now have a team full of the best players in the world.
He literally pulls about 3 defenders to him every time he gets the ball in the final third. Seriously watch him next time he plays. It'll show you he knows exactly what he's doing and why Pep puts so much trust in him in big games. Having said all that Doku's arrival is showing us that Grealish does need to work on some of his game.

Grealish is one of the most talented English players in an age when they want players to score 20 a season and run 15 miles. I’d play him on the left for England, Foden and Bellingham Rice and Saka
To hear Souness say that clubs overspending is an unfair advantage is the highest hypocrisy. As Rangers manager, he overspent so scandalously and illegally that the club was terminated. 😂
Talk of boxing. Ali was a maverick. He won things. Beckenbauer was a maverick, won things. Maradona was a Maverick and one things. Souness' football thinking is simply antiquated.

Grealish is tailored to teams that play out. He offers the control needed so the game doesn't turn into a ping pong match like Chelsea. Doku is suited to teams that sit back in double banks. It's a tactical issue. He's not there for goals and assists.... looking at the right wingers number at City its not that high either. This narrative is ridiculous.
Spot on ...yes im scottish, but hated sourness as a celtic fan ......but its FACT was unbelievable as a player .....but Zaha not in same class as grealish
When i saw grealish play for city, he has to play too safe, not encouraged to always take his man on, has an affect on his style. , so hes now more safe and patient and less effective in front of goal. He was best in a free role for a lesser quality team than city. He shouldn't be starting on the left for england with this form. However as a personality and character hes great. Good on him for enjoying the treble success and the work he does with disabled kids.
I don't think every striker wants a cross. I think that's a very Engilish idea of football I'd rather have a Mane, Salah, Vinicius, player. Foden doesn't just take a touch and cross. That's an old antiquated way of playing football. He says mavericks don't win. They win at Madrid.
Off the pitch grealish is a lovely lad, on the pitch i cabt stand watching him, he runs himself into a corner and throws himself on the floor, thats his whole game.

@@robertmclellan3658you do know that they were found guilty for FFP once and paid fined, right? UEFA didn’t ban them due to status of limitations which was 3 years.
@@Rain188 That’s incorrect, City had no intention of engaging with the corrupt EUFA kangaroo court and always intended on legal advice to go to CAS who completely exonerated them and the fine was for not cooperating with EUFA. The statue of limitations is SIX years and is the same in the Premier League case where City could have everything prior to 2017 thrown out as time expired however City know just like last time they have the proof and evidence to clear themselves of these malicious allegations. The hapless Premier League is desperately trying to find a way out of the mess that they have created for themselves without losing to much face.
Maverick players like Tony Currie, Frank Worthington, Stan Bowles, Rodney Marsh had something special. Get you off your seat. Could Jack Grealish be in same class as Michel Platini?
So financial fair play should only apply to teams that cant afford to regenerate deprived areas of the country and be able to afford whatever fine is thrown in their direction. Got it 👍. Its sounds exactly the same as the judicial system in every country.
The term 'maverick' makes me think of the likes of Best, Garrincha, Maradona, Cantona, Gascoigne, Higuita, Merson, Le Tissier, Ibrahimovic and Di Canio.
Gascoigne was a maverick. Shearer was a maverick.... Grealish won more than then and tbh if Grealish won the league for Man City against West Ham the season before last. Pep has changed his game he keeps the ball or gets a foul. Let's not forget his input against Liverpool last season one minute saving a goal scoring opportunity next setting up a goal down the other side of the pitch. Maybe talk about some other British players that aren't living up to the hype.
Grealish was great at Villa, he's not a player that excels in a system. He has strengths, dribbling, balance and flair that are uncommon these days. Pep isnt going to play him in the same role that Smith did at Villa - he doesnt need to. Grealish is similar to Gascoigne this doesn't work at city a team full of stars but worked well at Villa were he was capable of taking the game by the scruff off the neck against the weaker teams in the prem, he also has the ability to rise when the pressures on a rare talent, he can win games on his own.
Jack isn't great, but did a job for Pep when it needed it. Now, Pep requires more with certain departures in the summer and he hasn't elevated his game one bit. He is a lad. Enjoys his booze and parties. Good on him, but he isn't WOW.
@Simon nothing substantial will come of the City charges, at best some heavy financial fine. What could have reshaped the morals of football would have been seizing the trophies and deducting them points to relegation levels but we all know how that impacted Italian Serie A hence the Premier League won't do it and settle for the financial penalty.
11:15 how can you not see robotic players now days? All controlled tactics. Pass, sideways, backwards. Football today doesn’t allow players like Zidane or Del Piero to dictate the game / play.
If Oil FC get to buy their way out of the 115 charges then it shows how corrupt football is and they are all in bed with the filthy money! So unfair on clubs like Everton and Forest.
A maverick is a stylish, swashbuckling footballer. Grealish is that, the low socks to show off the legs to the chicks, the hair, the attitude, a peacock. Mavericks don't shine in system teams like Pep's, and that isn't a knock on Pep. A larrikin on and off a pitch, a flawed character people can relate to.
Maverick? No. Not even close. Grealish is bang average and the only reason his price was £100m was the England tax. He plays in the same position as Vinicius Jr, Mbappe, Rafael Leao and he's not even close to any of these guys. When it comes to players in the premier league, I can immediately think of 5 that would be ahead of him - Doku (already is), Martinello, Mitoma, Trossard, Diaz. You could probably make an argument for others too (even Rashford but quite frankly he is equally as average). Lose the hype on Grealish, the best thing about him is his hair.
What have City done wrong? They were caught red handed cooking the books & post dating past sponsorship deals to allow them to spend more money & stay within FFP. They’ve flouted a rule that’s holding everyone else back which gains them a HUGE advantage. Yes Chelsea have started ignoring FFP but I can almost guarantee they’re doing it because nothing has been done about City doing it.

Ive supported villa for 27 years and grealish is the best player ive seen... not sure whats happened to him at city
Maverick is someone who is celebrated for breaking the mould. They are succesful. Eg If a goalkeeper keeps running in with the ball way out into the outfield and launching succesful attacks, doing succesful scorpion kicks...thats a maverick. If the other team keep scoring while he did that...thats a liability
Grealish is one of the most talented English players in an age when they want players to score 20 a season and run 15 miles. I’d play him on the left for England, Foden and Bellingham Rice and Saka
Assists are part of football as are goals for attacking creative players. Barnes, Beardsley, Gerrard, Lampard, Robben, Ozil, Di Maria etc
The term maverick was used to refer to individuals who prefer to blaze their own trails.
What does it mean to "blaze their own trails"?
25:13 it does make ZERO sense that the players must be English but the coach’s can be from wherever
Grealish crying into his treble
To hear Souness say that clubs overspending is an unfair advantage is the highest hypocrisy. As Rangers manager, he overspent so scandalously and illegally that the club was terminated. 😂
What a podcast should be. Always interesting.
Talk of boxing. Ali was a maverick. He won things. Beckenbauer was a maverick, won things. Maradona was a Maverick and one things. Souness' football thinking is simply antiquated.
Grealish pogba and souness should be interview, it would get billion views
Obsession with mancity is crazy is it the only topic that gives you people numbers
People like you say the same about an obsession with Man Utd,Liverpool and Chelsea. Then moan when they don't talk about them
@@leepatrick9432 that is not true Simon speaks about mancity every opportunity he gets and it's always negative but when it comes to Liverpool ow deary me he gets excited, mind you the same Liverpool that hacked mancity system but No1 speaks about it, it's all love for the red teams
great show
Would love to ask Souness did he think Ronaldinho was a maverick??
Grealish is tailored to teams that play out. He offers the control needed so the game doesn't turn into a ping pong match like Chelsea. Doku is suited to teams that sit back in double banks. It's a tactical issue. He's not there for goals and assists.... looking at the right wingers number at City its not that high either. This narrative is ridiculous.
Not all with eyes want to see that
souness with simon sounds so much better rolling off the tongue.
Jordan is missing is the point mavericks in a individual sport is very different from a maverick in a team especially modern day teams
‘Arguably the best team in English football’
You missed the best one. Robbie Edwards
so true about zaha
Most overrated player the Premier league has seen
Spot on ...yes im scottish, but hated sourness as a celtic fan ......but its FACT was unbelievable as a player .....but Zaha not in same class as grealish
When i saw grealish play for city, he has to play too safe, not encouraged to always take his man on, has an affect on his style. , so hes now more safe and patient and less effective in front of goal. He was best in a free role for a lesser quality team than city. He shouldn't be starting on the left for england with this form. However as a personality and character hes great. Good on him for enjoying the treble success and the work he does with disabled kids.
It’s almost as if Souness’ team played differently to Pep’s
I don't think every striker wants a cross. I think that's a very Engilish idea of football I'd rather have a Mane, Salah, Vinicius, player. Foden doesn't just take a touch and cross. That's an old antiquated way of playing football. He says mavericks don't win. They win at Madrid.
Off the pitch grealish is a lovely lad, on the pitch i cabt stand watching him, he runs himself into a corner and throws himself on the floor, thats his whole game.
Grealish can win dive awards
If city found guilty, it should be punished like Everton. Point deduction + few years sanctioned not to buy players
But you don’t need the brains of an Archbishop to see that very very clearly they are innocent of these malicious allegations just like last time.
@@robertmclellan3658go educate yourself. Unless you are sarcastic!
@@Rain188 The worlds best club are clearly innocent of these malicious allegations unless you have any proof or evidence of their guilt in which case you should send it to the hapless Premier League because they are are absolutely desperate for some and are trying to find a way out of the mess that they have created for themselves.
Tom cruise and James garner are Mavericks
Paulo Di Canio has to fall into the Maverick candidate, surely?
So financial fair play should only apply to teams that cant afford to regenerate deprived areas of the country and be able to afford whatever fine is thrown in their direction. Got it 👍. Its sounds exactly the same as the judicial system in every country.
£100m to spend every five minutes diving all over the pitch….
Worst signing Pep has ever made - by a country mile..
Doku is waaay better.
yes, newcastle is state owned, but up to now, newcastle has stuck to the rules so you cant blame being state owned on citys 115 charges
The term 'maverick' makes me think of the likes of Best, Garrincha, Maradona, Cantona, Gascoigne, Higuita, Merson, Le Tissier, Ibrahimovic and Di Canio.
Eric Cantona was the quintessential embodiment of a maverick
A maverick is someone who makes a ‘four act play’ of something
Jack isn't great, but did a job for Pep when it needed it. Now, Pep requires more with certain departures in the summer and he hasn't elevated his game one bit. He is a lad. Enjoys his booze and parties. Good on him, but he isn't WOW.
@Simon nothing substantial will come of the City charges, at best some heavy financial fine. What could have reshaped the morals of football would have been seizing the trophies and deducting them points to relegation levels but we all know how that impacted Italian Serie A hence the Premier League won't do it and settle for the financial penalty.
Stones walker grealish foden palmer lewis ermmm which team do they play for or started with?
11:15 how can you not see robotic players now days?
All controlled tactics.
Pass, sideways, backwards.
Football today doesn’t allow players like Zidane or Del Piero to dictate the game / play.
@ 04:10 Aware of the time limit of this chat, being the true PRO that he is, SJ just hybrided Peter Beardsly with John Barnes to save time.
Peter Barnes was a winger for City & WBA
Best , Cantona , Rooney were all mavericks. It’s a compliment where these 3 are concerned.
If Oil FC get to buy their way out of the 115 charges then it shows how corrupt football is and they are all in bed with the filthy money! So unfair on clubs like Everton and Forest.
omg I didnt know a balding single 30 y/o in coventry would unveil the truth !! show us the emails lad, how can the court not do what you can do
No it's not fair on the teams who played by the rules, not the fellow cheats
@@LurganGoon91 not fair they got points deducted and City didn't
Cantona has to be the ultimate Maverick
Its ironic how ive just watched this and they talked about Stan Bowles , just found out tonight he's just died . Rest in Peace Stan
.
Eric cantona was the ultimate maverick and he did win
Maverick?
Lol😂 Good point, but is there no British players that are 'class'?
@@tevildo45 Good point. Especially Bellingham and Kane doing it abroad and in Europe.
Treble winner Grealish 🤫🤫🤫
@@footnow2845 Yes, we know as is Kalvin Phillips. Many players have won big trophies and are not all that.
@@PeterAnderson-z4y Grealish actually played all the big matches. Including the fa cup and champions league final. Silly comparison
Any proof or evidence of your hysterical claims?
Not many seem to mention Liverpool hacking City
@@johngriffiths7361 And of course Liverpool and united engaging in match fixing to ensure united beat Liverpool and prevent united getting relegated, fortunately they were caught and punished.
@@robertmclellan3658 United would have avoided relegation even if they lost by 20 goals to nil………Spurs finished bottom with far worse goal difference. You had to go back to 1915 to find this 😂and played with the facts
@@flemfleming3149 Doesn’t matter when it happened it HAPPENED however I only had to look at this season to see match fixing Manu convicted and punished for FFP cheating. How utterly pathetic no wonder nobody wanted to buy them.
Cantona, Ginola, Zlatan, Le Tisser, Gazza were mavericks.
City holding Greenlish back. If Greenlish played at Arsenal or Liverpool he would be amazing.
Greenlish at Villa was quality to watch. At City Greenlish has to pass the ball and move.
Doku has freedom to beat players and dribble past players Greenlish don't
More important that if your in parliament you should be English
Veiwers and money brought into the premier league makes it the best league in the world and having some of the best managers in the world you will form great squads ,
However the pl doesnt hold a candle to when seria a was the best league ,
Forget the cash or veiwers at home , all the worlds best at the time wanted to challange themselvs in italy ,
We haven't seen the worlds greatiest at there pomp in the premier league infact some of best havent ever played a game in the league like a messi , neymar , lavandowski , r9 , kaka , zizu , neur , muller , poyal , ramos ect .
If these players were around playing during seria a's pomp all would of gone there to challange themselvs
