Thank you Mike for this awesome video! I've been using this 8700 for the last 9 years and it's still a nice machine! I'm getting now issues with P2 jacks. Sometimes they work sometimes not. I can take it off the side cover easily as the frontal cover. But this top cover has been my great challenge. lol. In my whole life, I never took in that part. lol. With you video, I could get some nice tips to upgrade someday. Thanks a lot!
Got a free gps 8700 with an i7-4790 @ 3.6ghz. I've heard that having 2400mhz ram helps getting out the most out of this intel CPU. Do you think it's worth it to upgrade my 16gb of 1600mhz ram to 16gb of 2400mhz ram or is it too marginal of a change? Also, how much better is performance when having both an Os drive and a data drive? I'm on a budget and was wondering if having two different SSD's (or one SSD and one HDD) would significantly make my performance better. Thanks.
This is a little old now but you could've used all the 3TB space by changing the drive type to GPT. Usually a drive is formatted as MBR which can only support up to 2TB. All versions of Windows 10 can read GPT drives and use them for data-they just can't boot from them without UEFI
Do you know where to find the drivers of the dell xps 8700? I install a new and fresh operating system and i cant find the drivers of sone of the hardwares..
Just bought a 2nd-hand Dell 8700. It won't recognize my new 4 TB SSD drive if set to UEFI in the BIOS. Then when I set the drive to boot as first device with the Legacy BIOS setting, it just tells me, select proper boot device, which I have, and which it IS. Dunno whether it supports 4 TB drives. Anyone know?
@@MikeDancy Thanks Mike. So you're saying I should make sure to format/re-format the drive as legacy, then make sure the hard drive that contains the OS is less that 2 TB, and it should work then?
Desktop or laptop? It’s a capable processor. It will run Roblox and minecraft and a few other games. If you get a desktop and add a video card, it’ll be okay. But I wouldn’t pay more than $200. I just sold a i7-6820HQ for $350 CDN
I wanted to get a Nvidia GeForce 1650 ti and I have the same motherboard and desktop and everything....would it be possible for me to switch a new graphics card? Would it handle it or would I need to get a new motherboard ?
Hello I have this same pc and I upgraded the graphics card to a 750ti and power supply to a 600watt years ago. Worked perfectly till i started playing newer games and the 750 just couldn’t keep up with graphics. I got a rtx 2060 and it crashes randomly when not under load. I’ll play CoD warzone at 90fps with no issues but if I try to play a browser game or something like Minecraft it’ll crash. It sometimes also just crashes randomly. If I switch back to the 750 it works fine with no crashes. Any idea what it could be? I have tried fresh windows install, switched to ssd, updated all drivers, updated bios, and I even got the 2060 replaced because I thought it was faulty. Also tried my friends 1650 and the crashes still happen.
@@MikeDancy I tried a 700 watt psu cause my friends told me the same but it still crashed. The reason this confuses me so much is why doesn’t the pc crash when I play something like Warzone which i assumed would cause the gpu to draw more power but it crashes when I play something like Minecraft. Also if I have Warzone open in the background I can play Minecraft with my computer crashing lol
Hello sir, I have the same computer, and still working perfect, I change the gpu for a Rtx 2060 and the PSU evga 600w bronze, can in future update the CPU? I think that I need to replace also motherboard, is that posible?

Glad it worked out. Thanks for watching!
I currently have this and I'm never going to upgrade :(
this kind of CPU _is_ becoming phased out as a new Low-end minimum though.. keep that in mind... they're good cheap buys.. i like them!
Seeing the hello kitty doll scared what shit you got on the hdd
Lol. That’s my favourite USB stick
Hello, what’s the motherboard model name? I saw the manual but didn’t find the name.
Ddr3 or ddr4?

Ahh. That’s interesting. I will try that again. I have a few more 4TB drives around here I think.

You’ll need to download the Dell support assistant and it will run a system check. Then it will pull down the drivers for you.

It only supports 2TB so you’ll need to format the drive into 2TB or smaller partitions

The same situation with me. Thank you for this video. I will try

It can handle any PCIx video card. I think the 1660 is the beat one out there

it could be the power supply. maybe the stock power supply can't give the RTX 2060 what it needs. the 2060 needs a 500 just for itself

I think you can upgrade the CPU a generation or two but if you really want to make it faster, you should change the mobo too
You should just get a new pc
if it already has a 4770 no you can't.. and it stops at 4th gen 4xxx quad core chips
You can upgrade to a Haswell intel cpu, the best cpu upgrade you could get without changing the mobo is an i7-4790k
