Superb review Martin. Lovely surroundings in Yorkshire, they remind me of the series "All Creatures great and small". If I was James Herriot or Siegfried Farnon I would do my job in a Citroën C5 Aircross.
Sorry but the way you record yourself while driving is pretty bad, a lot of background noise and it's very hard to hear what you are saying , it's dangerous as you have to look away all the time and it's annoying, you aren't fluent as you have to concentrate on the road and to remember your lines. For it is just pointless to do that while driving. Just show how the car drives and then sit down and tell your story, show the car, the review will look so much better. Good luck.
Why isn’t the C5 Aircross offered with LED headlights in the UK, even as an option when they’re offered in other markets where it’s sold? 🤔 Here in the UK, C5 Aircross buyers have to make do with old-fashioned halogen headlights - welcome to the 1990’s!
That's a good point; they're all built in the same factory but the option list change from country (f.e the heating windscreen is available as option in Belgium but not in France !); there's also a heating/cooling system that you can activate by distance which is only optionnal in northern country. Don't get why they don't propose the option to all to sell as much as they can?
Good review. Thank you. We tried one for a long weekend test drive. I found it underpowered, 130bhp is massively underpowered for an SUV form factor. I road trip to Europe with cases of photographic and film equipment, and passengers, a number of times a year in a 130hp tdi Peugeot SUV (company supplied thank god) and its a pile of gutless shit. In an SUV you need a minimum of 180hp to be safe, practical and useable over longer distances with passengers and luggage. Lack of power negates any positives about ride quality or trim finishes, bells and whistles notwithstanding. Also I found the power steering, typically french, lacks any kind of feedback or feel. In fact, it felt like one of those merry go round cars on a fair ground ride. All that being said, thank you for a good review. If Citroen put a more power in it and give the steering some proper feel then there's a long shelf life for the model. In the end I went for a ex demonstrator BMW 2 series grand tourer with the seven seats, x drive and 189 hp, ironically it came in at a tad under what I could have got the citroen for and its twice the car.
I am the owner of a C5 Aircross with a petrol 130 hp engine. There is nothing wrong with the amount of power to be fair it is quite fast. Even with a lot of Luggage it has enough power for fast overtaking. I can't speak for the diesel version myself !
The handling is fair enough, it is light but so are many SUV crossover cars I've tried, but the point about being underpowered is surprising as it does have a 2.0 diesel variant with 180 hp and rather high torque 400/295. But it does sound like you had a bargain with the beamer though and are obviously happy with it. I've actually just got a C5 aircross flair plus 2.0 diesel but my old car was a BMW x1 which I liked but I've recently had multiple back surgeries so went for the most comfortable car I could afford and after test driving the Peugeot 3008, the Skoda Karoq, the Renault Kadjar, the Kia Sportage the new BMW x1 the Seat Ateca and the Ford Kuga among others (I was thorough) the C5 aircross is just about the most comfortable I personally came across, and unfortunately my back is a good test for such things.
Good practical review Martin .... I'm getting the 2023 C5 Aircross Sport in Melbourne (AUS) next week .... Can't wait ...! 😎😎
Got my flair plus 1.6 petrol in volcano red arriving on the 28th Feb....nice review to be fair!
Enjoy!
enjoyed your review , looking at this as my next car . well presented .
Thanks for your kind comments. C5 was so relaxing to drive and looks different enough to stand out and be interesting. You won’t regret it!
