Mercyful Fate is my favorite project that King was ever in. Don't Break The Oath is the best heavy metal album ever written imo (and it's heavier than Melissa). Also, King left Mercyful Fate to go solo. Hank Shermann and Michael Denner are the guitar duo in Mercyful Fate. They eventually reunited in 1992 and again in 2019 (without Denner for some reason).
King and Michael Denner have been at loggerheads for a while now. Denner and Hank Shermann used some artwork by Thomas Holm, which looked similar to his work on Melissa and Don't Break the Oath, and King got upset about it. It's a shame because it's not really Fate without Denner
Yay, always happy to see new KD reactions from you! Michael Denner - one of the two lead guitarists from Mercyful Fate recorded first two albums as a part of King Diamond (Fatal Portrait and Abigail). Bands also shared the same bass player (Timi Hansen) for a bit and obviously King himself haha I hope you'll check out more MF. I recommend Into the Coven, Satan's Fall and Melissa from Melissa ablum. Desecration of Souls and Come to the Sabbath from Don't Break the Oath would also be great picks. Cheers, much love from Russia ❤
When King went solo following the demise of MF in 1985. He did retain the guitarist Michael Denner and bassist Timi Hansen, but they left the band after 2 albums (Fatal Portrait, 1986 ; Abigail, 1987), and were replaced by Pete Blakk and Pete Hal Patino, respectively from 1988-1990. This lineup, which included drummer Mikkey Dee, would endure for 3 more albums (Them, 1988 ; Conspiracy, 1989 ; The Eye, 1990) before changing again, with almost every album thereafter.
Guitarists Michael Denner and Hank Shermann had a band called Denner/Shermann. Check out Son Of Satan and Satan's Tomb. They also recorded music under the name Force Of Evil. Back To Hell are a great suggestion. And also the band Zoser Mez had them working together. Today they unfortunately can't be in the same room. Something happened when Mercyful Fate reformed a few years ago to go on tour and they didn't call Michael Denner but brought in King Diamond guitarist Mike Wead to play with Hank Shermann.
What's up, nice surprise, haha. King Diamond left Mercyful Fate in the 80s to form King Diamond with other people (Besides the bassist) He's back with Mercyful Fate nowadays doing tours.
OMG thank you for that one!!! I really apriciate you liked it!! Btw -- Mercyful Fate orginal lineup - vocals/songwriting King Diamond, guitarist Hank Shermann, bassist , drummer Kim Ruzz and guitarist [first 2 albums ("Melissa" 1983, "Don't break the oath" 1984 and debut EP "Nuns have no fun" 1982)] in 1993 there is Mercyful Fate reunion and album "In the shadows" -- King Diamond - vocals/songwriting King Diamond, and appeared in Fatal Portrait and Abigail, drums - Mikkey Dee, Guitar - Andy Larocque - my personal favourite. INCREDIBLE guitarist (interesitng fact is that Andy played on "Individual Thought Patterns" by Death) and he is in the band invincibly to this day And ill give you "Evil" lyrics here 😄 I was born on the cemetery Under the sign of the moon Raised from my grave by the dead And I was made a mercenary Oh in the legions of Hell And now I'm king of pain, I'm insane You know my only pleasure Ooh is to hear you cry I'd love to hear you cry I'd love to feel you die And I'll be the first to watch your funeral And I'll be the last to leave I'd love to hear you cry And when you're down beyond the ground I'll dig up your body again And make love to shame Oh lady, cry and say goodbye (goodbye) Oh lady, cry and say goodbye You've gotta say goodbye 'Cause I will eat your mind

Love how every time you try to sing as high as him your limiter or whatever on your software cuts you out 😂 Don't Break the Oath and Melissa are two fantastic albums, top drawer heavy fuckin metal. Love KD's solo stuff as well but those two are the standouts for me, riff central!
The guitarists have done several projects together, this is all from Mercyful Fate exept Kim(King) th-cam.com/video/4I-09FxzA3M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vcSrlhBhpF6xrlh-
Dont get to annoyed about the copyright stuff the official king diamond youtube page had a song or two copyright claimed and taken down for awhile. Just shows how dumb the system is.
RIP Timi, you are missed

I was born on the cemetery
Under the sign of the moon
Raised from my grave by the dead
And I was made a mercenary
Oh in the legions of Hell
And now I'm king of pain, I'm insane
You know my only pleasure
Ooh is to hear you cry
I'd love to hear you cry
I'd love to feel you die
And I'll be the first to watch your funeral
And I'll be the last to leave
I'd love to hear you cry
And when you're down beyond the ground
I'll dig up your body again
And make love to shame
Oh lady, cry and say goodbye (goodbye)
Oh lady, cry and say goodbye
You've gotta say goodbye
'Cause I will eat your mind
The chorus/refrain :
"I... love... to hear you cry"
"I... love... to see you die"
metallica's Mercyful Fate medley was my intro to MF / King Diamond
I was born on the cemetery
Under the sign of the moon
Raised from my grave by the dead
And I was made a mercenary
Oh in the legions of Hell
And now I'm king of pain, I'm insane
You know my only pleasure
Ooh is to hear you cry
I'd love to hear you cry
I'd love to feel you die
And I'll be the first to watch your funeral
And I'll be the last to leave
I'd love to hear you cry
And when you're down beyond the ground
I'll dig up your body again
And make love to shame
Oh lady, cry and say goodbye (goodbye)
Oh lady, cry and say goodbye
You've gotta say goodbye
'Cause I will eat your mind
also its "I'd love to hear you cry" / "I'd love to feel you die"
