"Bing" means pancake or cake (depends on the context) in Chinese so you can call it a scallion bing or scallion pancake! Scallion pancakes hold a special place in my heart as it's one of my favorite finger foods as a child (and still is now) so I'm really happy to see Grace dabbling more into Chinese cuisine!!! :)
Yesss whenever her hair is in a style where it looks shoulder length it looks amazing but she always says she looks bad with that length when everyone else loves it!
Natasha J haha i also have thomas the tank engine ones but minions are definitely my fave, never too old to enjoy a good minion spaghetti hoop in my opinion
‘Gyo’ in gyoza is pronounced like the ‘kyo’ in Tokyo. Also the scallion pancakes are traditionally almost deep fried in shallow oil to get it more golden and crispy.
I LOVE YOU you have helped me through anxiety attacks and depression episodes and a few suicidal times I really don’t know how to express my love and gratitude to you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I hope your ok you are worthy of love and care. Stay safe if you need help there are so many organisations to help you. We all have a purpose and a place in this world. 💗
Grace hi! When you make the scallion pancakes, to get a really nice flavor, first gently cook the scallions in the oil to make scallion oil and then pour the hot oil over the small bit of flour. This will partially cook the flour and give you a tastier filling and better texture! Also, when rolling out the dough (thought it may seem weird) use some excess oil on the table instead of flour. It's a fairly oil-y treat and flour can dry it out
wow can't believe you made chinese scallion pancakes (congyoubing)! I grew up on those as their a popular street food in Taiwan, so nice to see you trying traditional food I grew up with! You can even fry it with some egg, cheese, ham etc to make it like a savoury breakfast pancake and fold it up like a crepe. Also super impressed you made them from scratch, i've only ever bought them from market stalls or from frozen so props to you!!
Hi! Could you please elaborate on the “add eggs or ham” do I first fry the pancake and then just use it like a tortilla wrap (for lack of a better analogy) or can the ingredients be added while cooking?
@@ek.s.3140 you'd first cook the pancake and remove it from the pan, scramble up some raw egg and pour that on the pan like a crepe, add whatever topping, then place the pancake pack on top the egg while its still half cooked so that they stick together, let it cook for a bit, flip and roll it up! found a vid that should help :) th-cam.com/video/jMARxA1I6fo/w-d-xo.html
Grace, Since your family are teachers, why not start teaching? Some type of Home Economic classes type things. I’m sure with your degree and passion you would have students that fall in love with cooking & baking!! Thank you for the always great content Grace, you put so much effort into every video and it is really appreciated by so many of us, I get so happy every time I get a Grackle notification!
Everything looks amazing!! The only thing I'd recommend for the scallion pancakes is to have fried them in a little more oil/smush the sides with some chopsticks or a spatula while cooking to create more flaky layers
I couldn't never wear one inside the house though, or are the houses in the UK just super cold? 😅 (I live in Switzerland and I usually hang out in shorts at home)
@@marianna3253 yes some older houses especially can be super cold in the winter!!!!!! However also can be a fashion statement. I have been known to need to wear a hat indoors many times throughout the Winter!!!!

I could never bake in my dressing gown, just the flour on your sleeves makes me cringe at the thought. Its like having water on your sleeves after washing your hands.
Ah Grace! My favourite salad at the moment is a raw broccoli salad with dried cranberries and almonds slivers. I was also against the idea of raw broccoli until I tried a good one. The trick is to cut the broccoli florets really small so they get a good coating of dressing . Super fresh and so healthy! Go look online for recipes. Love from Cape Town, South Africa
Even easier for pomegranate: cut in half horizontally, hold the open side over your hand and SMACK it with a wodden spoon while holding it over the water. Thank me later!
it would be really fun to do a series of 5 days of making recipes from a different cuisine/culture/country/region that you've never cooked before. like 5 days of german, 5 days of malaysian, 5 days or persian, etc!
Grace --- do you save your scraps? I've started using the carrot tops, onion peelings, zucchini skins, broccoli and asparagus stalks, etc. in a Zip Lock bag in the freezer .... I've even added some meat bones & the stuff that's left in the garlic press after you put garlic in a recipe. ANYWAY ... when I need stock or cooking liquid, I put all that in a pan covered with water & simmer it for an hour or two ... instant, FREE veggie stock that tastes really fresh & good!!! I don't use cucumber skins or things like that, but anything that would be good in a stew. Give it a try ... it's hard at first to remember NOT to throw that stuff in the trash, but just have a zip lock bag near you when you're preparing veg and throw it in the freezer.
POMEGRANATE HACK: cut the pomegranate in half. Pull on the edges of the cut just a bit (to hear a CRACK or grack hehe) so that the seeds loosen up a bit. Then take a wooden spoon and a big bowl. Hold the pomegranate half face down in your hand and beat the outside part with the wooden spoon. You'll see that the seeds will start to pop out in no time. Not sure of my explanation mastery on this technique but I'm sure you can find a video on youtube on how to do it. I SWEAR it's by far the easiest way to de-seed the ole' pomegranate. Pls try it out, it's well worth it! Love you loads!
I love raw broccoli. my fav salad has raw broccoli almonds, crasins and this dressing with curry powder, salt, pepper, lemon and honey/sugar/maple syrup. Its sooo good.
Scallion pancakes need a bit more oil in the pan. Also you can put 5spice in oil flour mix (we make it way more liquid & heat it to cook the flour before filling) It is rly easy to freeze, best midnight/midday snack!
@Willem Chastity how long have you got?!! There's a lot of stuff on my mind and I have mh problems anyway despite the obvious Covid despair! Bless you, thank you so much for taking the time to ask ❤️ how are you doing?

Lovely wholesome video, Grack! Have you tried “scrambled” tofu, its lush just add salt, pepper, garlic and any other herbs you want! That hat also really suits you, lovely💕
I love how u tried so many different cuisines, but about the scallion pancakes...I grew up eating them, so when u mentioned STEW and CURRY, ngl, a part of me died inside. No babe 🙈 we eat them as a roadside snack. They pack it in a little paper bag thing, sort of like the way you would grab a cookie from a cafe. If it's breakfast, then sometimes we would have it with a soy milk drink. Thought it was a fun fact that i could share!
Here is an extra extra grack hack. Hold the pomegranate in the palm of your hand with the seeds facing down and whack the skin with a wooden spoon. All of the seeds will fall out and you won't have to pick them out
Tip for your scallion pancakes!! If you scrunch them in on the edges with chopsticks (there’s videos of this) it makes the pancakes extra flakey! It’s super good :)
Grace thanks for the distraction. My boyfriend and I recently broke up and it was mutual which makes it suck even more bc he’s my best friend and now I don’t have that and you always brighten my day even if just for 15 minutes or so (: also this inspired me to actually eat a real meal today because I haven’t since Friday because I’m too sad but I’m going to try my best to do it after I finish my school work. Thank you grace
Not cooking off the veg will make the pomegranate more palatable in that salad! Broccoli is actually really really bright in flavour when uncooked, so goes with the sharp pomegranate really well! It goes against your natural 'steamed, boiled, baked' instinct with broccoli, but it's one of my favourite versatile veggies now! Eat it all year round!!
The way I was taught to get the pomegranate pods out is to cut it in half and put half open side down on your palm and then hit the other side with a wooden spoon. The pods just fall out really easily. I think I learnt that one off Martha Stewart.
Grace, I love Broccoli Salad and yes the veg is uncooked. It is so delicious! Next time try it uncooked; it's crunchy good!😋 p.s. I haven't seen it with pomegranate; only Raisins/Saltanas
