    I have the pocket wifi LTE. I am in Manila and it works very good. It is fast anytime of the day even late at night. The only downside is it drains the battery so quick.

    this is not a good idea for those who have limited data plan, it will surely consume your bandwidth allocation. Speed test will be receiving and sending data every test you perform, so be careful. :)

    great video as always mate! :D just wanted to ask what's the huawei pocket wifi that you use that's comparable to smart home LTE wifi. I wanted to give it a try because it could be a better choice than having to buy a device that requires a power outlet to use it. Thanks in advance! :) Cheers mate!

    Hey, nice comparison video. I liked it very much. I assume both the portable wifi and the home wifi can use the 700mhz frequency. Am I right? So how do we know which frequency they're using at any time?

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's right, both the Evoluzn Home WIFI and Pocket WIFI support 700MHz. You can login to the web interface and see which LTE band you're connected to :)

    Stay tuned for the same tests performed in a 'good signal' area. Ortigas isn't the best area for Smart and being inside a building makes things even worse. But it's interesting to see the Home WIFI vs. the Pocket WIFI. In my previous testing, I found my Huawei pocket WIFI performed as well, if not better, than the Home WIFI.

    • @IvanRiveraStagea
      @IvanRiveraStagea 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gadget Addict Cool video man. My condo is right across the Smart cell tower in Ortigas and I still get terrible numbers (especially during busy hours). The area is truly congested.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aside from congestion, there's known glitches in the area. For example flexitime packages expiring before they're meant to. I don't understand how the glitches can be confined to one area but I've never experienced it anywhere else and regularly experience it in Ortigas.

      My new Smart Home WIFI is much faster than my Globe pocket wifi set up in the same location inside condo in Mabolo, Cebu City in the early afternoon. Smarts data sim card states it is their fastest data sim. My Globe pocket wifi is only 2 weeks old so I would expect it to have their fast sim as well.
      Thanks for the review.

    Hi! How are these different from just tethering and using your phone as a hotspot? I tried my phone as a hotspot inside a condo and was discouraged to get these units because of the unstable or slow connection. Would these address these issues?

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Essentially the same but phones get very hot when tethered or in hot spot mode and usually drain the battery faster than it can be charged. Also it's generally easier to get and leave one of these in a good position than your phone.

      The home WIFI offers both a wifi and ethernet connection. It's an internet connection so yes, it can get your PS4 online. Although for online gaming you generally want the lowest ping possible which usually means a fixed line connection.

  • @stud023
    @stud023 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Probably these two devices are connected on a different LTE band/frequency hence the difference. I had that experience in Makati using Globe wherein I'm connected to band 40, speed is averaging 41Mbps. When switched to band 3 and 41, speeds are just around 5Mbps and 12Mbps respectively. Did you get a chance to check which frequency are you connected to? Maybe the pocket wifi doesn't receive the LTE band that gets faster speed using home wifi.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +stud023 it's possible but both devices are meant to support the same bands. But I will do more testing between them. I suspect that is indeed the case. But rather than lack of support, just a difference in configuration about which band to use.

      I currently live in a poor signal area and I can't decide whether to get the new Smart Home Wifi or Pocket WiFi. Your video here is conclusive showing pocket wifis are inferior to home wifi modems. Not sure tho if that's still true for new devices.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, not having any problems like that. Have you checked your settings for the Huawei? You might have accidentally locked it to LTE only instead of leaving it in auto mode.

    • @jcbtarun

  • @paulsworldph
    @paulsworldph 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    i bought a home wifi and tested it against my huawei b593. i did not see any advantages of the new home wifi or the 700mhz is negligible and it easily gets hot!

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Paul Malaki if you're close to a tower, you won't see any benefits from 700MHz because higher frequencies will be used to provide faster speeds. It gets warm but there's no components that are going to be affected. I've made quite a few follow up videos now, doing comparison between different devices.

    • @paulsworldph
      @paulsworldph 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gadget Addict actually im far from the tower and i dont have an antenna so my modem is just indoor. i hoped that the 700mhz frequency should provide a big difference but i guess that frequency is only available at major cities

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe you can check with Smart and Globe to see if your local towers have been upgraded to 700MHz yet. That's what I'd do :)

    try Robinson's magnolia location I'm getting some what stable speeds from 20-30 Mbps in the food court LG level (near dairy Queen)

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tested inside the food court at SM Megamall today and got very impressive LTE speeds with Smart. I was surprised because most parts of Ortigas give me awful speeds. I guess they've run fiber to the building and then put their own pico cells or repeaters inside. Probably the same for Robinsons. I sometimes wonder if part of the problem in Ortigas is all the old condo buildings with their own repeaters/mini cell sites using slow old connections and/or interfering with each other.

    Smart has improve their towers, I hope i can say the same with globe but their service is on the decline consistently, I live in downtown pasig and we used to have 3g only in smart but months ago it has been upgraded to 4g+, I usually get 20-30mbps even on midday when everyone is online.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow nice speeds! I usually get 10-15Mbps during the day and then 25-35Mbps during the night. Globe seems more focussed on being an events and concert company than telco :P

    • @i.p.error4044
      @i.p.error4044 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Globe will be out of business if they continue on that path, if foreign telco was permitted to enter here i'm pretty sure most globe subscribers will disappear, the funny thing though I used to be a globe loyal customer but enough is enough I guess.

    i think huawei brands perform better than zte or other brands like evoluzn thats why i wonder why telcos shift to other brands?

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They want to drive prices down as low as possible, so everyone can get connected. They do that by turning to generic Chinese brands. Although these devices are branded as Evoluzn USA, they're actually AsiaTelco China. They're much cheaper than a branded gadget from Huawei and that's why they can sell the pocket WIFI for P1295 and still give you a P250 SurfMax card too. I agree these Evoluzn products aren't as good as those made by Huawei but they're close enough to be worth buying for the big savings.
