I'm going to be taking a break from long-form content for a while- I really enjoy it but it's insanely time-consuming. As an android guy, the 4S will always be my favourite iPhone. Everything about it is just peak iPhone to me, the design, the square home button, the introduction of Siri, the skeuomorphic design of iOS 5/6, I could go on and on and whilst it's mostly nostalgia, i really miss the days when Apple actually felt innovative and unique.

I had a resource room teacher in 2017 who still used the iPhone 4s, I’m sure he has a newer iPhone now, but thinking back at it it’s crazy how he used it on iOS 9 when iOS 11 wasn’t out yet, but iOS 10 was. iOS 9 kinda ruined my iPad 2.

iPhones will last a long time as long as you take care of them, the battery will wear out but it’s pretty inexpensive to get the battery replaced. But if apple discontinues batteries for certain models, I would not get the battery replaced. Non OEMs are known to cause usability issues and can even brick the phone permanently

The 4S was my first iPhone, back when the 5s was the main. It was such an awesome phone, and I was so happy to have it. I used it for many years, making sure not to update it when I heard it started slowing it down. My next upgrade was the first SE that released, and my mind was blown with how much better that phone was. I still have that phone in a drawer and it works, but the battery decayed after so many years of use. I eventually got a used 8 Plus that I still use to this day (I've said this in your comments several times before, before anyone calls me out) and besided needing a battery replacement, its pretty much perfect still. I wouldn't trade it for anything currently.

It will always have a special place in my heart and in my opinion has the best looking design and feel of any iPhone of its era, way better than the 6 with its rounded edges. Seriously I had used to second hand phones between 2017 to 2020. Actually I really liked to use this phone. Because I really like the aesthetic of late 2000's and early 10's. I've had one problem and that is the WiFi problem which is not rare problem. In the time that I used this phone I didn't used with WiFi. It's just connected WiFi one at time and it lasted in 5 minutes. In this time I bought myself a Better Call Saul melody (It's still there :D). The weird thing is when my grandma used this phone before me, she can connect the WiFi. Good video Josh!

I’m a long time subscriber and just like you i’m still intrigued by these older iPhones. i’m 25 now living on my own but i remember way back in 2011 when i was still in high school my dad upgraded me from a LG Keebo to a black iPhone 4s 16gb on the Rogers network here in canada. No word of a lie i’m still using that same exact iPhone 4s on iOS 6.0.1 on the Cityfone network here in Toronto for work use. My daily is a 11 max pro. Man the interactions i get with some people when they see me standing there having a call on the 4s is hilarious. App store won’t load, FaceTime won’t connect so it’s basically just a basic phone for call and text. i use it for the alarm as well because for some strange reason the 4s is 5x louder then my 11 max’s speaker. Anyways anyone still using an iPhone 4s going into 2022 give the comment a thumbs up. Take care guys

The iOS experience that brought me the most amount of joy and excitement at the time was definitely easily the iPhone 4 on iOS 5. I was so hyped after watching the iOS 5 announcement that I woke up super earlier before school and kept hitting the "Check For Updates" button in iTunes on my laptop with my iPhone plugged in via 30-pin. Unfortunately I had to go to school before the update was actually available, but the second I got back, I ran to my room and hit the button again, and there it was! I was so flipping hyped, the new notifications looked cool as heck, I loved the look of the notification banners (I still think those looked better then than they do now) and the notification center was a really cool aesthetic. The thought of updating to future versions of iOS OTA was also totally insane to me, and iMessage was going to be a total game changers for my friends who had an iPod Touch but not a phone. The awe of that release honestly never even really went away, I was still thrilled by it by the following year when iOS 6 came out. Good memories.

I have the iPad 2, which also came out in 2011. It was my daily device last year when I was 14, then in November last year I got an iPhone 5, then a month later, I got the iPhone 6, then in June 2021 I got the iPhone 7, then in September 2021 I got the iPhone 8. Recently I broke my iPhone 8 and my iPhone 7 doesn’t work, so I’m using my iPhone 6.

Siri was severely under-implemented much to the detriment of a good friend of mine who tried to use it while succumbing to the horrible effects of ALS.
They really should have handcuffed some of their designers and forced them to use the phones by voice alone until that experience is acceptable.
A lot of nasty edge cases where the phone would be softlocked from a voice only perspective when finishing a call and a few other situations.

The iphone 4s glass sandwich did make it easier to brack and unfortunately it came to its demise when it was in the driver side pocket of my mom's van and it fell stright to the pavement and shattered the whole front glass.

Sadly, during a recent power outage, it was zapped from a power surge and fried the whole thing, even (somehow) cracked the screen. Strangely, the speaker dock it was plugged into was fine.
