Learn Hip Hop Dance: Body Wave

    The body wave is a fluid eight-count move used often in modern hip hop dance.
    Instructions
    1. Tilt your chin up, lifting your head. Take a deep breath, pushing your chest out. Your head will return to its normal position.
    2. Push out your pelvis, letting your chest return to normal. Push out your knees, letting your pelvis come back to its normal position.
    3. Pull your knees back in, pushing backwards with your butt. Straighten up, letting your head tilt down to your chest. Finally, lift your head back to its normal position.
    Practice this series of moves at an eight count; don't worry if it starts out looking a little robotic. As you continue practicing, focus on changing the series into a single fluid movement. Speed it up until it's fast and seamless.
    Traveling Variation
    A variation on this move involves traveling backwards, or moving backward each time you do it. The more times in a row you do the move, the further backwards you will travel.
    Start by doing steps one through three of the body wave normally. Right after you push out your pelvis, step back with your lower body. From this, roll back up to a straight standing position. Start back at step one-do the chin to the chest to the pelvis, then the step back and roll up to standing.

    Practice this move combination: body wave, body wave, travel back, travel back.
