    Peter has nothing to be embarrassed about. This is a classic

    This is one of those movies like say 'Logan's run' that is timeless. Its still good to watch; good story line, reasonable acting and Sir Ralph Richardson as the wizard. I watch this every so often; still brillant.

    MacNicol needs to take a closer look at his work on Ghostbusters 2 if he thinks Dragonslayer is somehow embarrassing to him.

      He should be embarrassed. He was the worst part of the movie.

      It's probably because it cost a lot of money to make and flopped so he didn't want to include it for that reason. I actually think he performed well in the film and was much better than many of his more commercially successful projects he was in. It's a lovely film and sad that so many of the cast died prematurely. Ralph Richardson was brilliant in that he made the wizard believable and also was extremely watchable in the role. These sort of films are magical films that can leave a lasting impression if you watch them as a child. I have to say I never saw this film when it was first released but have very much enjoyed watching it recently for the first time.

      @@bonzobanana1 I loved everything about the movie but Peter McNichol. It was funny going back and seeing a young Ian McDiarmid as the preacher.

    • @bonzobanana1
      @bonzobanana1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Elthenar You may be right about Peter McNichol the more I think about the more lacklustre his performance seems. I sort of feel a English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish actor might have made it feel a bit more true to the time, accent etc although saying that the two other main american actors in it, the King and the preacher at the end both perform brilliantly especially the King whose accent is brilliant. Maybe someone like Matthew Broderick would have been better as the central role, it would add more humour and vulnerability and I could see many of the scenes being much improved with such an actor. Peter McNichol's performance is the least believable in the film plus he doesn't really add anything to the role. His hair looks nice is pretty much all I can come up with. Maybe Peter himself realises this which is why he tries to forget he made the film.

    • @CaminoAir
      @CaminoAir 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible it isn't the film itself, but McNichol's own performance that is the reason he ignores it. I think the reviews at the time said he was miscast. He may not want anyone considering him for a part to see what he considers a performance that doesn't show his ability properly.

    • @EternalRoman

      I know this is an old comment of 3 yrs but anyway, possibly what makes him embarrassed of it is that he went nude on film and as quick as it was it showed lol

    Well, I can see why MacNicol is embarrassed by the film. What with his nude scene and the fact that, imho, he turned in arguably the weakest performance of the film. He should get over that though, and embrace it as a part of his filmography that many fans, myself included, still love after all these years.

    I saw this in the theater and when the first four horn chords announced the beginning in a completely darkened theater, I knew I was in for a treat. Yes it is a real treat. I only have a VHS copy now but I intend to buy a DVD. Peter Nicol has nothing to be embarrassed of. This is a neat little piece with the best stop action since Ray Harryhausen.

    One thing is missing, though: Whatever happened to the go-motion dragon puppets? They were among the finest ever created and seem to have disappeared completely.

    • @biffmercury
      @biffmercury 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ThomasiusPufendorff The stop-motion puppets being made of foam latex were probably barely holding together by the end of post-production and have undoubtedly rotted away since then.

      they cost too much compared to computer effects. You need to employ teams of artisans to make and operate them. CGI you just give it to a post-production company and they fart it out,.

    Still an awe inspiring film considering it was made when film technology was nothing like today. Peter should be embarrassed. Not by this film though. But by his lack luster performance in it. The film is legendary and timeless now. Peter is not.

      I get where you're coming from. The banner in particular makes it look like an old VHS rip, or even one of those non-animation flash videos with trivia that would get posted on places like Ebaumsworld around 2005. However, I think the channel owner is the actual creator of this content, and this was actually made on the date listed on the post. They definitely hit some ancient internet vibes with this series, though. I wouldn't be surprised if this was made with Windows Movie Maker.

      Hey it is possible that what he was embarrassed about was his quick nude shot. Some actors may take pride on that, others don't. The movie was great and it has inspired many other modern films, but actors and actresses may feel uneasy even for something that has no great impact.
