Enjoyed 'Dragonwyck' thoroughly which I saw for the first time yesterday. The film was a haunting Gothic drama that keeps the viewer engrossed from start to finish with the suspense growing gradually. Gene Tierney, who was always a fine actress, plays her character in a quiet, understated dignified manner. Her demeanor, no matter what the situation demands, remains cool, never losing her head. Vincent Price is in top form here with his impeccable accent. While he is suave with his clean-shaven and elegantly tailored clothes, he does make a formidable Bluebeard and carries his role to the hilt. A true classic to the very end. Don't miss this beaut of a film if you haven't seen it.

I worked with someone who had done a lot of jobs in British films and he'd met Peter Cushing, who was apparently an absolute gentleman, just as everyone thought, no falsehoods. He was great friends with Vincent Price (and Christopher Lee) and from the stories it sounds like they were like three naughty children together. He said that Cushing spoke to him when they first met and Lee came up right behind him and scared him. Of course Cushing was in on the joke. I gather they all had that "twinkle" in the eye of being gentlemen but with a bit of a rogue-ish sense of humour. I only wish I had been there myself rather than hearing the stories second hand.

Around 43.00, Vincent's reference to Oleander rang out warning bells. My parents had friends who had one in their garden. The husband suffered blackouts & the Doctor was puzzled. My mother asked the lady if her husband had spent much time tending his plants lately. He had. It transpired that he had touched the Oleander & hadn't washed his hands before eating shortly afterwards. Oleander is poisonous! They never made that slip ever again. Vincent's knowledge of plants came in handy for what he had in mind! Great actor in what is an interesting role for him. Many thanks for the upload 👍.

My dad looks so much like Vincent Price that he was constantly being stopped and asked for autographs! It happened once down in Florida and when asked for his autograph, my father, with greater plume, said certainly, my dear and who should I make it out to? He signed his name Vincent Price and the lady and her friends gushed their things and moved on. My mother, God love her, had the ability to rain on one’s parade, no matter what the occasion. She made some derogatory remark to my dad, to which my father responded as he stopped walking, and turned dramatically towards her and said, “ but mother, why should I disappoint my public when it’s so much easier to graciously except a step in role for Mr. Price and sign his name? This way everyone’s happier, and I don’t have the tiresome task of explaining, no, no, no I’m not Vincent Price!

Originally Gregory Peck was to play the lead role that’s why Gene Tierney signed on. This was Joseph Mankiewicz’s directorial debut. Ernst Lubitsch was to direct but was to ill so he was credited as produced you can see his influence. Mankiewicz later went on to make one of his best films The Ghost and Mrs. Muir with Tierney. Dragonwyck is a very well done Gothic and directorial debut
Gene Tierney had a string of hits from 1942 to 1951 she was at the height of her fame that’s why she had top billing. Vincent Price was asked to play the lead after Gregory Peck dropped out. He does a great job. He actually lost 30 pounds for this role. It’s too bad he never moved into leading man at Fox Studios he was very good This is really well done.

A good movie to watch! It's a reminiscent of the past norms, traditions and culture when people are so discreet in their manners ,attitudes in their way of how they dress up especially the women, how they were treated by men with respect and gentleness. Those were the times when farmers are what they are and landlords are what perceived to be. Belief in The Almighty God plays a Big Role in the people's day to day living! People are conscientious of their every inapppropriate actions to other people. A story of a wife who believe's in God and the husband who only believes in himself of what he could be able to do! A toxic plant had been put in a former wife's room which causes the death and for which Miranda's husband had give as a gift.
