To be fair, production of the physical release likely started quite a while ago. I'm not a fan of "Day 1 Patches" either, but if they were waiting until the "Day 1 Patch" to be finished before starting production of physical releases, it wouldn't be delayed an extra week or two, but likely several months.

There are good arguments for both sides. That said, how many games from the PS2 era would have a day one patch? Sometimes you finish the product and find a problem here and there after finishing it and send it to be mass produced. Thank god there's the possibility of improving the quality of it later.
You really need to do a video of the timeline for the Ys entire series. This would help people understand more the exact order of the series itself. I mean who else suits doing that video than you. Wait wait wait. Lol. Honestly bring Joe on from Gamesack he also would die justice for the video. I truly do think it is time that there is a awesome video for the chronicle timeline order of Ys the series.
I guess 4 comes before 3. and 8 comes before 6, according to that list. Ive played all of them tho. The stories dont connect all that much besides origins, 1 and 2. 6 and 7 also connect slightly. The rest of the games involve adol and dogi in a brand new area of the world with a whole new cast of characters.
I was just saying it would be awesome having John along with Joe from Game Sack to do an epic show on the chronicle order of Ys and some of their thoughts on it and the games. All I was thinking.
I've received my physical copy of the game today. I'm very excited to play it. Hopefully they provide update patches along the way. I've also bought the Ys VIII Lacrimosa of DANA from the eShop for only $19.99 which is a great deal for this game.

I'm getting the switch physical version (the big deluxe one). I will play it there, but probably I will buy it again on pc later. I don't have any PS and I'm not keen on byuing them.
I also have a pc and a switch… I want the switch version for the portability and physical extras but I also want the pc version for the Graphics and Resolution
man, i was so proud of Sony during the PS4 era. Now they've been retaken by cold calculating business suits. I used to love Sony so much. I have no plans to buy a PS5 either.
This is going to be my first Ys game, I'm so excited for mine to get into my hands in a few days! Glad that this port runs adequately. I don't mind a few minor drops in frame rate, and I knew the resolution would be reduced a bit. Just glad it doesn't always chug along like some of the worst switch ports

Vs Viii is a little expensive @ $80-120ish physical/ $50-$60 digital. I got both 8 and 9 physical. Paid $80 for 8 and $40 for 9 on sale. Not too bad if you ask me. Dont regret it at all.

cut to 2022: the framerate is somehow worse in the city now and in the dungeon its almost as bad as the cities framerate, this is depressing. think we will get a fix?
I just got past Chapter II, and though I was a little disappointed in the framerate, Ys has always been a handheld game series for me, and I'm used to the frame drops from the Vita and PSP games. That said, I do hope they smooth things out though!

I was waiting for the Switch version to see how is translated and played the demo. I‘ll be getting it for PS4, because the frame rate really impacted the gameplay for me. For most games I don‘t care, but the modern Ys games are really based on split second dodging and blocking. Much easier to pull off on PS4.
I don't know why I have this particular quirk, but my preference for physical or digital games is primarily based on whether it's on a cartridge or a disc. The only physical PS4 games I own were given to me and the only one I've ever paid for was a gift for someone else. That preference does a full 180 if the system is cartridge based, no matter what the game file size is. I had to get the deluxe edition of IX to go with the deluxe editions I still have of Seven, MoC, LoD and Origins.

I just played Ys origin on switch for my first rpg jrpg and fell in love. Only played yunica story. Picked up 8 and 9 based on your reviews. May go back and play the other stories on origin before playing through. I love playing on handheld mode. May grab the other ease to play on ps5 since they aren’t on switch.
Ori and the Will of the Wisp had issues(minor) on the Switch compared to it's counterparts... I still love and enjoyed the game. I noticed the issues early in the demo of Ys IX, but after a bit, I was wishing it was longer lol. Plan on getting Ys 8 and 9 next week, but I'm probably not going to play them right away (hell Ys Origin is still sealed). Monster Hunter Stories 2 hype!

It took me three years to beat Ys VIII. I loved it, but I'm not sure I can bring myself to start another one. Also, after the last one, I think IX is kind of ugly. I don't mean resolution or frame rate, just the setting. VIII was full of beautiful beaches, forests, mountains, etc. IX looks dark and so much is set in bland looking cities and dungeons. Even though outdoor sections look overcast with subdued colors.
Got it at launch, I have not played ps4/5 version but I have had not technical complaints with this game at all. Frame rate hasnt bothered me at all. Resolution looks fine to me as well.
The frame drops might be annoying but strangely you get used to it the longer you play. I have the game for the Switch and the PS4 (playing on the PS5) and for some reason I prefer playing on the Switch despite the flaws. It's my favorite console after all.
I'm tired of 'patches' and how they have become acceptable. I'm paying full price for a complete physical copy. The last thing I want is to have to download patches for very obvious flaws that should have never made it into production in the first place.

Never thought I would enjoy 😊 playing Y’s on an arcade machine as much as I do, but once you get in mood to play & crank those speakers 🔊 up, it’s so much more fun than you would think it is. I really like that I can still play one handed so I can still partake in buds & 🍺 while playing.
From playing the switch version of 8 then the demo of 9 it does appear that the switch version of nine is far more optimized than 8 and I imagine it’s because there was no ps vita version this go around
I ended up being torn between switch and stadia. Got the switch version and I'll agree, it's fine. But it definitely chugs more often than it should. Had some google credit so bought the stadia version as well and it looks and runs great. Been kinda playing them at the same time. But yes, if you only have a switch, it's fine. Still fun and completely playable.
Ys8 was on vita and i didnt complain... Played it all the wsy through , playing 9 now on switch it feels like a step up from vita for sure... But idk , i feel like i emjoyed 8 more (so far )

Current Falcom games are originally only released on PS4 in Japan so the Western releases on other platforms such as PC and Switch need to first be ported to those platforms. This is why the PS4 release comes early. EDIT: That said, this is not an excuse for a weak port.
Falcom out sources ports, they make the Sony version in house, if you want to blame Falcom for how shit the Switch version is, you also have to blame the company they out source the ports to.

It goes without saying that the PC and PS5 in backward compatible mode will without a doubt be the best looking and running versions of Ys IX, but I'm positive that this be a fun way to play the game. I'm hoping that the PC release of this game won't be a mess like the PC release of Ys VIII, and if all goes well that will be the best version because the PC version of Ys VIII is the only version that can run at 120FPS and has a multiplayer option, it would be great if the PC version supports both of those on day one, hopefully the PS5 version can get similar updates too.
While all those things are fair, I’ve been having some issues with the button press. Like, sometimes it delays the input by a good couple frames. While I’ll admit this could just be my controllers or something, I have tried other games without those problems. It has lead to me taking hit or attacking too late more than once. Is it a dealbreaker? Not really, but there is a noticeable delay in input for my version.
I loved Ys VIII. Can't wait to play this, but currently to many games in my backlog :( Also kind of addicted to Monster Hunter, but will play it one day... With the 30 hours, did you do all the side quests and such ?

I started with Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana and fell in love with the series. From there I played Ys IX and am now working on Celceta. Strongly recommend Ys VIII as a starting point.
The Story doesnt matter, even though the series features the same characters, each game has its own unique story... Kinda like a Zelda or FF, but the same Link in every game...
that and its intimidating to start because I've gotten verbally assaulted by fans saying Im wasting my time if I don't play the 5 games before the cold steel games lol
I have a hunch they are trying to implement characteristiscs of the newer personas into the series like was done with fire emblem, Dana was probably my last Y's game, and I've been playing Y's since the turbographx.
Sometimes it's just like, graphics be damned, I need to be able to play a game like this on the couch while I'm doing something else. These games are just too long to put 90 hours in front of a TV.
Usually the PC versions of these releases are usually the best performance wise... Ys VIII was a mess at first but thankfully NISA brought in some pros to fix it up even though it took an uproar from the community to do so.

I played the PS4 demo and the Nintendo Switch demo. I couldn't tell the games apart from a visual aspect.

Yeah, where there's combat it's fine. Just like a lot of Ys games, the town tanks the frame rate

Ys 8 runs very well on Switch, I love it. 30 fps sure, but it stays locked 30 most of the time, not many drops so it is smooth

If you have the option to play on pc or PlayStation over switch do so. Ys IX is sub 30 fps with tons of dips on Switch.

So what are the loading times between PS4 and Switch?
It goes without saying that the PC and PS5 in backward compatible mode will without a doubt be the best looking and running versions of Ys IX, but I'm positive that this be a fun way to play the game. I'm hoping that the PC release of this game won't be a mess like the PC release of Ys VIII, and if all goes well that will be the best version because the PC version of Ys VIII is the only version that can run at 120FPS and has a multiplayer option, it would be great if the PC version supports both of those on day one, hopefully the PS5 version can get similar updates too.

While all those things are fair, I’ve been having some issues with the button press. Like, sometimes it delays the input by a good couple frames. While I’ll admit this could just be my controllers or something, I have tried other games without those problems. It has lead to me taking hit or attacking too late more than once. Is it a dealbreaker? Not really, but there is a noticeable delay in input for my version.
This is where a Switch Pro would shine instead of the stupid OLED upgrade.
I loved Ys VIII. Can't wait to play this, but currently to many games in my backlog :( Also kind of addicted to Monster Hunter, but will play it one day... With the 30 hours, did you do all the side quests and such ?

I'm very excited for this one cause I HATED motion controls and could not play that whole generation of Nintendo games.
I love Ys ...I have no problem with it being a bit clunky I'm used to playing on my Vita so 🤷.
What is the best YS game for a starting point?
Ys Origin, or Ys VIII
I started with Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana and fell in love with the series. From there I played Ys IX and am now working on Celceta. Strongly recommend Ys VIII as a starting point.
@@IKilledYourDude I'd say play Celceta before VIII because it might be harder for them to go backwards to more primitive games
Honestly any. I started with VIII and went back to the beginning from there to catch up to IX.
The Story doesnt matter, even though the series features the same characters, each game has its own unique story... Kinda like a Zelda or FF, but the same Link in every game...

That limited edition is great. I have my PS4 limited edition and so many goodies! It was well worth the wait and money!

Johnny's never gonna get to the Trails games since those games are like 50% story and cutscenes
that and its intimidating to start because I've gotten verbally assaulted by fans saying Im wasting my time if I don't play the 5 games before the cold steel games lol
I have a hunch they are trying to implement characteristiscs of the newer personas into the series like was done with fire emblem, Dana was probably my last Y's game, and I've been playing Y's since the turbographx.

Sometimes it's just like, graphics be damned, I need to be able to play a game like this on the couch while I'm doing something else. These games are just too long to put 90 hours in front of a TV.
We expected graphics and performance to take a hit
Usually the PC versions of these releases are usually the best performance wise... Ys VIII was a mess at first but thankfully NISA brought in some pros to fix it up even though it took an uproar from the community to do so.
The most annoying thing of Ys8 on switch was the dinamic resolution... it never were stable, even standing by in a close area.
