I just love watching his reviews. I need friends this enthusiastic about gaming just as much as me. LOL yes I'm 36 and absolutely love videogames, I have a career in Healthcare Supply Chain Management and still provide for my family first and foremost, BUT I just happen to be a respectful responsible adult with a passion for gaming outside of the workplace.... No harm being done to anyone while enjoying my hobby as long as my household is taken care of first 🎮😎
I’m 38 and still love games just as much as I did when I was younger. My wife plays games but my friends really aren’t into it as much as we are so it’s always nice to meet older people that are into video games lol.
@That One Geek Site that's awesome! My Wife plays as well but we have noticed that PS5 games running in 60 fps give her very bad motion sickness, so her selection of games are limited for sake of her getting nauseous.
Make sure to put Sonic Frontiers into the 1080p 60 FPS mode in settings and do continue playing. The game picks up steam, as well as the story. The boss fights are badass as well.
they should have started the game with a boss as tutorial to show the players what sonic frontiers is all about. i love the loop of defeating the mini bosses in the world to get the gears to jump in the cyber stages to get the keys to then get the emerald.
Also try turning off HDR, not every game is HDR on PS5 either. Tales Of Arise and Demon Slayer aren't either. I think Dying Light 2 isn't either. Also, try going in blind like the good ol days that's what I've been doing lately and its working wonders for me. No more reviews for me. I can think of a few critical darlings that I can't stand. And at the end of the day, Reviews are just that one person explaining why they like something. Self-discovery is king.
I bought it about a week and a half ago. I was looking for a anime JRPG and this one caught my eyes just because I thought the cover art was cool. I mean who doesn't like blue-haired anime chicks, right? It was on sale for like $18 so I bought it and I have to say it's one the the most fun and interesting gaming experiences I've had in a long time. I'm getting close to the end I'm hoesntly bummed about it. I don't want it to end. Love love love it to bits and pieces.
I remember the first time I played Ys Book 1 & 2 way back in the 1990s on the TurboGrafx-16 CD-ROM. It blew my mind. My God that soundtrack is STILL incredible.
I put sonic on performance mode. Never experienced the frame rate drops like you did. Playing it on ps5. In my opinion, probably one of the best 3D sonic experiences.
I got into the Ys series back when Ys 6 came out in the mid 2000s, about 15 years or so ago. Then I came upon your channel and realized that I had missed out on all the others. I’ve now played Ys I, II, Celceta, Felghana, Kefin, and am currently halfway done with VIII. Thanks for the recommendation! These games are so much fun.
Good for you for getting Bayonetta 3. Not only is your money supporting people in the short term, but it’s helping to set up the company and staff for future productions as well.
I'm sorry to hear you aren't enjoying Sonic Frontiers! I'm having a blast with it, personally. I think I really started to fall in love with it after completing the first world. It was kind of a slow burn for me. took me a while to really understand what they were going for. It's like a weird mix of Sonic Adventure, BoTW and Mario Odyssey.
have been playing soul hackers 2, i can see why most people have problems with it, but im still enjoying it. i like the "not everyone in your party are necessarily good people" vibe it has
Me too. Playing the PS4 version currently. I guess the ps5 version will have a separate trophy list, slight graphical enhancements, more DLC, etc. Plus i’m grabbing the limited edition which i missed before. Also preordered the Ys 9 limited too…
If you're having issues with the framerate in sonic frontiers on PS5 I recommend putting it in performance mode. Its been a rock solid framerate for me doing that and has made the game way more appealing.
I upgraded to the PS+ premium and finished both YS8 and YS9. I cannot believe I didn’t know about this series and I LOVE it. I do think 8 is way better than 9
I've been playing Tales of Xillia, been getting more into the Tales of series. I'm excited to play Y'S VIII for the first time at some point in the near future! I've played every other game in the series but never VIII haha. Thanks for another great video Johnny!
With Sonic Frontiers, I'd say turn 60 fps mode on in the settings and keep giving it a try! It really is the most fun 3d Sonic game in years and it kinda goes back to basics with the character count which is nice
I also love sonic adventure, it's very close to my heart. I knew frontiers was going to be a departure from previous games and I went into it with an open mind, and I've really been enjoying it! Sonic for me is about innovation and new ideas, changing direction constantly will throw a lot of people off but it's something I cherish about the franchise. Just like it's mascot, sonic team is always on the move and I wouldnt change it for anything.
Sonic Frontiers is flawed but has been very fun for me which should ultimately be the most important factor. Better than being technically sound and boring. I'm 43 and skipped most of the 3d Sonic stuff after Adventure 2 just like you but this one hit the spot for me. My jaw has dropped a few times too!
I’m 47 next month and playing more games than ever……. Are you supposed to sit and read a news paper with a pipe and slippers after a certain age instead pmsl
I'm not playing anything new, but starting RE1 director's cut on PS1 and doing an entire series run. I've only finished RE4 and RE5, so it's gonna be a journey to say the least.
I’m really enjoying Sonic Frontiers. I’ve played over 20 hours already, doing every little challenge and finding all of the collectibles along the way. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is still my favorite game in the series BUT this game is almost beating it out! The Ys games are awesome as well, played them back in the day on the PSVITA.
I remember playing the game for the first time and when I heard deadly temptation I literally had to stop and just jam to the music lmao. It's been a few years since I first played it but I still listen to the soundtrack to this day.
Special shout out for Tactics Ogre Reborn. Awesome remake/remaster. For some reason, the reviewers that seem like they would review it, aren't covering or mentioning it even though they got a free review copy from Square. Weird.
Y’s VIII is on ps plus! Excited to check that game out. I got a ps5 a few months ago and have been loving it. Recently I just beat “God of War” (2018) for the first time (I didn’t have a ps4 last generation, only Xbox one) to prepare for “god of war: ragnarok” which I have now. I also recently played Spider-Man Remastered, that game looks SO good on ps5. Lots in the backlog, and not enough time to game as I work a lot. But thankful for the machine! I also really dug Gran Turismo 7, which was kind of broken (so I hear) at launch, but which polyphony has fixed a lot of the issues with as far as progression. That game (to me) is very fun now. Enjoyed it! Thanks for the videos! Love your content.
Thanks for being so honest about Sonic Frontiers. I am still on the fence and your opinion on this game makes me just think I’ll wait some more. Awesome video!
Really wish I had played Sonic Frontiers on PS5 for the trophies. I was on the third island when I realized this game is actually not exclusive to Switch.
There are some gems of Sonic games post Dreamcast - The Advance trilogy - Rush Duology - Colours wii and DS version - Generations love letter to the past 20th anniversary game - Mania pure classic action Frontiers has potential the controls if slightly faster and add the spindash got Sonic Adventure controls and add the momentum back and the new formula will be good.
Just finished Bayonetta 3, going back and playing more and trying more weapons. Bought Ys 8 for the switch a little while ago, but havnt got around to it yet
I'll echo what everyone else has said and say absolutely change sonic to performance mode. It's crazy that it's not on by default. I've also heard that it does pick up steam, I do not own the game yet but these are things I hear constantly
River City Girls 1 and 2 collection is releasing on December 1st and I'm excited for that. Also, Akai Katana is coming to the Switch in December, that's a day 1 buy for me, I love a good bullet hell shooter.
I’m playing Shredder’s Revenge, Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles DE. They all are fun to play, but Shredder’s Revenge is so easy to pick up and play through that it’s getting the most love at the moment.
i had zero frame rate issues with sonic. i played in performance and it stayed locked 60fps. you notice it right away. i felt you got more out of 60fps mode than graphic mode for what each is suppose to give.
Just about finished Valkyrie Elysium. It has it's drawbacks BUT the einherjar memories are so well written and are a great way to enjoy some storytelling that may be lacking in the main quests.
Playing on Valkyire difficulty since I love to get into the mechanics & utilizing the skill without getting too overpowered in most RPGs I play. The game isn't merciful and it took me 3hrs just to finally get my 1st Einherjar. Plus, the memory snippets are great on vocals and storytelling as you stated.
Awesome video and I honestly cannot wait to play the first Bayonetta - definitely missed out on that so hoping to get the first one soon and check it out next year!
I'm playing Sonic Frontiers on ps5 in 60fps mode with VRR enabled and it's been pretty smooth. Def recommend immediately switching off of the default 4k graphics mode. I'm really enjoying the game. It's refreshing to have Sega's sense of style with music and aesthetic in an open world design. Considering the collectathon past of platformers, the two formats gel well together. Reminds me of how fun Immortals Fenyx Rising is.
Definitely go into the settings for Sonic Frontiers and change it to 60fps. Even on PS4, i haven't really had that many fps issues, if any. The game also gets way better once you get out of that initial Tutorial section of the 1st island, literally when it says "Sonic is free to explore" or something like that.
how good were the old games ! i would love if someday i feel the same feelings playing games again like Demons Crest, a link to the past, super metroid and so many masterpieces !
Hey there, Johnny - long time running Sonic fan here. First off, I just wanted to say, thank you so much for picking up Sonic Frontiers, and giving it a fair chance to begin with. A lot of people, including myself, have been waiting for a really fun, decently good 3D Sonic game for ages now. However, I completely understand where you're coming from, when it comes to expecting a world more like SA1s. Two games that come to mind, that re do what Sonic Adventure did with it's in game hub worlds and atmosphere, are Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, and Sonic Unleashed, A.K.A Sonic World Adventure. For a long time now, a lot of people consider Unleashed to be the best of the franchise. It's definitely a good one, but I'm not so sure if it takes that cake. Even so, between 06 and Unleashed, Unleashed is definitely the better one of the two. It does recapture the same magic as Sonic Adventure 1 does for sure. However, the Werehog idea may come off as off-putting at first, but the in game levels are still pretty great, and control well. I recom playing the game on Series X, as it's the absolute best way to experience it. Sonic Frontiers is basically, an unofficial soft reboot for the series, in terms of gameplay. This game, is just the beginning of what Sonic Team wants to do for the next 10 years of Sonic. Not only that, Takashi Iizuka, the game's director, went on record saying that he wants to eventually make Sonic Adventure 3. There are even shelved remakes of Adventure 1 and 2, that the team may pick up again sometime soon. So yeah... You truly never know, when it comes to Sonic. Time will tell.
I really like Sonic Frontiers! Best 3d sonic since generations and unleashed. Performance mode is best and yeah some pop in but its good. I also got the collectors edition of ys 8. My 4th time buying it haha. Got collectors edition of Bayonetta 3 too
I have gone all out with gaming, due to an unforeseen illness last week, it’s the most free time I’ve had in forever. Playing MW2 and enjoying it in spurts ( haven’t bought one in years), loving Sonic frontiers (60 fps mode or bust), Bayonetta 3 is great. I have been playing all the boomer shooters on my steam deck and absolutely loving them, highlights are Prodeus, nightmare reaper, and cultic. It has definitely kept my mind off of being ill, what a great time to be a gamer
I just finished my second character in Octopath traveler (I did one chapter of each character at a time). I’m 75 hours in. I’m OP right now so the last chapter for everyone else should be pretty simple. Trying to decide whether I want to start a game I’ve never played before or replay FF12 (It’s been on my mind lately for some reason)
Been playing that sonic frontiers… I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying it. I bought it because I thought it would be “interesting,” but I’m having some legitimately great fun
I’ve been playing an old school, awesome survival horror game. SIGNALIS. It’s on gamepass. The attention to detail, the atmosphere, the graphics, and music/sound are all perfectly done. So awesome.
Same for me. Got Signalis on Game Pass and it's fantastic. Easily the best horror game of the year so far and not only respects the classics, but nails everything from the level design, sound, graphics and puzzles. It's a surreal, immersive experience that I really enjoyed.
Sonic Frontiers completely captured my heart and is a contender for my game of the year, something I never thought another Sonic game would be able to do. I think you're completely dead wrong about in every respect. First, set it to performance mode, then open your mind to the new gameplay style. I'm twenty hours in and cannot put it down, and will likely restart it right away upon completion.
I've been playing through Live A Live for the 2nd time. Doing the little secrets, and secret encounters. After completing it I plan on playing Tactics Ogre Reborn.
I missed out on Sonic growing up. I had Nintendo. Sonic Adventure was my first Sonic game I got at launch with my Dreamcast and it was awesome! This game reminds me of that first experience I got with Adventure. I picked up the PS5 version $35 for Black Friday.
The big games I've been loving are Star Ocean The Divine Force... and Sonic Frontiers xD I've been loving Frontiers, personally, and I think a few people have mentioned this, but go to the options and switch it to performance mode! I've honestly been loving Frontiers, the story, atmosphere and just using Sonic's skills to explore open zones and find things. Plus, the bosses and mini-bosses are pure badass!
I'm currently playing Trails from Zero on the Switch, God of War Ragnorok on the PS5, and Forza Horizon 5/Modern Warfare 2 on the Series X. I just purchased Ys 8 for the PS5 but I'm holding off playing it until I complete God of War.
Great video Happy Gamer. I too enjoyed Ys VIII, but I never finished it because I have ADHD and I got into another game. But it's cool that it has been released on PS5. I'll definitely have to get it. I'm currently playing GoW Ragnatok, Gotham Knights, and the new Star Ocean game. I'm looking forward to playing the remake of Crisis Core. But ultimately I'm very excited to play FF7 Remake 2 and FFXVI.
OG sonic fan … on PS4 frontiers has really surprises me. Keep going back to it especially when we get max rings for max speed, spend hours literally just running around parkouring lol
I got Ys VIII on the Switch maybe a year after it came out, and once I played it, I regretted not getting the special edition because of how much I enjoyed it. I'm glad it's re-released so I can finally get the special edition and also enjoy the game all over again (though I need to finish playing through Ys VI and VII before I do that!)
I was getting flashes of a 3D remake of Stardust Speedway 3’s Bad Future. The second boss triggered it. The match with Metal Sonic just flooded into my thoughts. Needless to say, if that happened to me, the game left an impression on me and I cant wait to see what they do next, or what happens when they strike a home run!
I never expected Frontiers to be related to Adventure in any way, and I had a blast. Finished in about 20 hours, mostly fishing. I'll take my time on the 2nd playthrough.
I just finished Valkyrie Elysium which I enjoyed a lot and am now starting up Luigi's Mansion 3 which I am playing based on your recommendation along with my girlfriend's recommendation also. First time playing through any of the Luigi games and am finding it cute and wonderful
You know, i wanted to try Sonic Frontiers but the reviews scared me away but now that i know it got positive feedback from fans, i might give it a go soon :)
Dude, living in a third world country and seeing these youtubers just buying dozens of new releases and collectors editions every month looks so surreal to me. If I buy 2 new releases it's the same price of my mortgage installment.
I have been playing a lot of retro. but also No More Heroes 2, and Travis Strikes Again on Switch. Last week or so I've tried out about 10 PC-FX games, played a little over half the library now. I played and beat the Valis Collection with the Turbogrrafx/PC-Engine versions of Valis 1, 2 & 3. On NES I beat Dancing Blocks, Super Pang, Super Pang II, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. I also finally got TMNT: Shredder's Revenge which was super fun. I still have 1 NES game in my collection that I haven't beaten and that's Faxanadu. Had so save the best for last (or so I hope). I will be playing that tomorrow.
For Sonic you NEED to change to "Performance mode". Dont know why they put the 30fps mode by default.
JOHNNY PLAY SONIC GENERATIONS ON 360
Probably to enhance the graphic more. With a fast action game, performance to speed up the fps is necessarily.
@@CaptAwesumNo1Zone my favourite Sonic game!! SO AWESOME 🔥
Sonic frontiers is amazing. Trashing a game for “muh graphics” is pretty lame and you need to play and get into it more than 5 min.
The better question, like John said: WHY isn't the game optimized for PS5? I would imagine PS5 being able to handle Sonic Frontier.
I am so happy I found this channel. Positive and friendly and fun. All things the world needs more of.
This dude has the right attitude and it makes watching his channel 20x better
Yup, one of the best/most fun channels on TH-cam.

Just about finished Valkyrie Elysium. It has it's drawbacks BUT the einherjar memories are so well written and are a great way to enjoy some storytelling that may be lacking in the main quests.
I’m a couple hours into the game and the main story does feel kinda barren. Still a fun reprieve from turn based RPGs.
I've Ys VIII on preorder for ps5. Will be my first Ys
Hi Johnny
You have to check this game: Huntdown !
Easily one the best games on the switch inspired from the 80’s games like contra
Just bought Prodeus and absolutely adore it. I cannot put it down.
I've preordered Ys 8 special edition on PS5 for release day in UK this coming Friday 18th - can't wait! Also preordered Ys 9 on PS5 for 6 months time
Definitely go into the settings for Sonic Frontiers and change it to 60fps. Even on PS4, i haven't really had that many fps issues, if any. The game also gets way better once you get out of that initial Tutorial section of the 1st island, literally when it says "Sonic is free to explore" or something like that.
2022 is pretty much over for me now, but dang 2023 is going to be stacked
how good were the old games ! i would love if someday i feel the same feelings playing games again like Demons Crest, a link to the past, super metroid and so many masterpieces !
Someone else on TH-cam said (about Sonic Frontiers) that at first he did not enjoy playing it but that, as he went on, the game suddenly became fun.
Got collectors edition of Bayonetta 3 too
I’m currently playing Tactics Ogre Reborn, Pokémon Violet, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus. I’m super excited for Front Mission 1st: Remake.
Finished Bayonetta 3 yesterday, this is a masterpiece, one of the Best games on switch, platinum games rocks
I heard Sonic gets better after the 1st open world/area/level. Keep playing & give us an update!
Yeah. Some games even manage to rotate the skyboxes, givin big atmosphere.
Great video. I been playing Gotham knights and mw2
Like the way you're holding Sonic Frontiers in the thumbnail 🤣
I just picked up Atari 50. I'm about to check it out.
The subtle middle finger to Sonic Frontiers in the thumbnail. I see you.
Been playing that sonic frontiers… I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying it. I bought it because I thought it would be “interesting,” but I’m having some legitimately great fun
Alright, Sunday morning Johnny time! Damnit, what am I doing….lol. Love this guys channel. The best!!
@@ShigKirby Absolutely.
The big games I've been loving are Star Ocean The Divine Force... and Sonic Frontiers xD
I've been loving Frontiers, personally, and I think a few people have mentioned this, but go to the options and switch it to performance mode!
I've honestly been loving Frontiers, the story, atmosphere and just using Sonic's skills to explore open zones and find things. Plus, the bosses and mini-bosses are pure badass!
You gotta put it on 60fps mode in the options menu
I saw Bayonetta 3, Ys VIII and Sonic Frontiers and clicked right away!
Watching Sonic run around in the "open zone" makes me want to buy it.
Awesome video man 😎!
The thumbnail killed me 🤣
Did you get your collectors edition early?? I pre ordered mine months ago too and I haven’t gotten it yet
“I really want to talk about these games that rock! …and sonic frontiers” 😂
Really looking forward to Callisto protocol next month
The best newest Sonic game I’ve played is Sonic Generations for PS3. It not only feels like Sonic Adventure but also pays homage in fun ways.
You need to change sonic frontiers to performance mode in the settings, it makes the frame rate super smooth.
You know, i wanted to try Sonic Frontiers but the reviews scared me away but now that i know it got positive feedback from fans, i might give it a go soon :)
I watched some big gamers play it and it looks really amazing. It wasn’t even on my radar and now I want to buy it.
I bought the collectors of Ys8 for PS5. Hopefully they can push past 60 frames for this re release.
Shouldn’t the game be able to do 120 on ps5?
@@johannessguten2527 right?? I don’t understand.
Dude, living in a third world country and seeing these youtubers just buying dozens of new releases and collectors editions every month looks so surreal to me. If I buy 2 new releases it's the same price of my mortgage installment.
Babe wake up, new HCG upload.
I’m playing Tactics Ogre Reborn on my Steam Deck. So good.
