Diana Krall has had a long time fascination with bossa nova, a type of music which perfectly suits her sophisticated yet sensual style. This culminated in her new studio album Quiet Nights (released by Verve in spring 2009) and in this stunning concert filmed in the home of the bossa nova, Rio de Janeiro, in November 2008. Accompanied by her band and an orchestra, Diana Krall delivers a superb set of standards in true bossa nova style but clearly bearing her unique stamp. This DVD captures Diana Krall at her scintillating best.

Diana Krall is very good. I'm 14 now. My grandma introduced me to her music 10 years ago in 2001 when I was 4.
Diana is an amazing center piece, but the musicality around her is the full experience. So unselfish and so perfect.

She is truly one of a kind. She has this very old soul in her that sadly almost no longer exists. Her voice is unmatched and surrounded by amazing musicians.
So sad Amy Winehouse never hooked up with her for a duet before she died.
I'm embarrassed to say I have not listened to this remarkable performer before. This lady has some unusual signature vocal characteristics. I'm no expert whatsoever I just know what I like to listen to. I like this lady singing.

Until a month ago, November 2019, I had never heard of Diana Krall, and now I want to hear more of her songs. This is one of my favorites but she sings it in a very sentimental way without creaming it or adding frills like other singers do. She's much better than Buble! Her sound is so romantic.

Yes! ...a great interpretation of what should be considered a classic. ...and to those who insist on comparing artists - why? She's not Dionne Warwick, and Dionne isn't Ella, and Ella isn't Sarah, etc. etc.. They are all great and each brings something unique to their music.

Looking at the comments, it appears to be "different strokes for different folks." I didn't use to appreciate Diana Krall's music on her CDs during the 90s. However, recently I've discovered her LIVE performances. These days professional musicians make their money touring. Well, she has real jazz chops, and now I like her LIVE. Had a chance to see her and now I regret what I missed. Beautiful orchestra here.

Her piano is clean and not over done. I think she is underrated as a pianist.
I've seen a lot (and I mean a LOT) of orchestras and studio bands up close...
I don't know when I've ever seen such uniform concentration on the part of an entire ensemble to get it right.

I've enjoyed Krall for years, but tonight, as I listen to this again, her performance of this Bacharach/David classic, I believe I finally "get" her:
Both vocally, and pianistically, she is the heir to Les McCann.
It is definitely the orchestra that pushes this rendition past Dionne Warwick's original. If Diana had Dionne's background ensemble you'd probably have to give it to Dionne. That being said, Diana's voice just melds so well with the orchestric sound, probably as well as anyone out there. Her version of The Look of Love is every bit as beautiful as this gorgeous piece.
Best modern cover of this David/Bacharach classic, imho. This entire DVD is just as incredible. Trust me.

Been listening to this genius for years. Would somehow like to say something as profound as her professionalism and talent. I would utterly fail. I can only say that I have years of musical training. It's October 2017 and 548 people have ticked the "dislike" box. Rather surprising. I am a long time fan and listen and watch all I can. Why do the dislike tickers bother to listen? This version is quite beautiful, performed by an attractive and talented performer. If over 7 million have listened/watched, I rest my case.

Diana Krall with the piano is one of the sexiest things in the whole world.
And also: The song is pretty great.
That is all I had to say in Finland at 4.30 am. And as we in Finland say: PERKELE Diana on mahtava artisti.
The audio crew done here a perfect work, much over than professional level. Find an exceptional balance between voice (Diana’s special one), piano and orchestra. Moreover Diana’s style and song interpretation itself is an adventure.
Every time when I hear this song I ask a question how this song found a way to this concert? It is much more „professional” and serious than other song of this concert. It is a professional improvisation by DK. I become a feeling this is a top of a world. In my opinion this song is better than official “The look of love”.
I got some e-mail: why this record is so special? I try to explain. Every song has its own aura, but sometimes singer forgot it. Sometimes improvise just for the improvisation and lead far listener from the original song. Brilliance of DK’s interpretation is to rip out listener from a original song for seconds without break its aura, break its melody. As simile: possible to swim in a river and fly over the river at a same time? It is not possible. But looks like DK deliver this felling to you.
Do not listen to anybody else YOU have excellent taste. Enjoy the music for what it is!
