You can see how much they want to dig in! That stuttering step, head down, and every muscle engaged. The luckiest horses ever, to be able to carry out their God given purpose. That synchronized backing up looked like a dance.

That is quite the furnace.
I would love to have a thumb on my excavator, but to add one on my old machine, I would have to change the bottom arm because I would also want to add a quick change for the buckets. That is the joy of owning older machinery.

i sometime thank the horses look at each other when you ask them to do something to see if the other is going to do what you ask
Back in the late 60s'. I used to help my Grandfather with his pulling horses. He used to plant between 150-200 acres of field corn with a two row McCormick planter. I was the "water Boy". I would walk them down the creek and back. I was 8 years old at that time. Winter time came around and we would hook the BobSled and pull hay out to the cattle. End of spring we would start looking to skidding logs. I will NEVER forget those times. I still like to see a good team of horses working together. Love your videos.

Here in Oregon there's only a few people that use horses for logging. And it's because of the land owners. But they don't use the cart or the wagons. The make the horses pull all the time

Love the wood setup. That is just how I want my wood setup to be. My father and I log, cut firewood, and have a sawmill. I will always have access to lots of wood.

Done haying in Nov, a few times myself, for mulch, we'd be baling hay & the other guy would be picking corn!Them horses amaze me, they are always 'chomping at the bit 'like Lets get it on!!
I do hope, Jim and Brenda, that you get some kind of reward for sharing your life with us. It takes extra work and effort to do that. And for us it is really interesting. I like the piles of firewood you have, I am heating our farmhouse also solely with wood and I know how much work all that is.

I enjoyed the view of the horses from the hitch because I got a good look at the differences between the way Lady pulls and the way Bill pulls. I could really see what you were saying about Lady puts more effort in whereas Bill is a bit lazy. Too funny. She doesn't seem to mind. And where you demonstrated how you adjust their harnesses to compensate the pull so Lady isn't pulling the load by herself. Although she looks like she is more than willing to do that if she has to. She is quite the spirit. Looks like she is doing well after having her mouth fixed.

That 2 wheel chariot appears to be a frequent source of transportation. I only see springs on the seat, doesn't your lower back hurt after a whole day of using it. It is quite a contraption, very very useful.
Yes, it does work well. It can be hard ion the back
You need to get someone to repair your seat - it'll make for a better smoother ride and easier on your back, etc. Just a thought - it is your back I'm thinking of !!

Are Lady and Bill related ? I think a excavator would a great rig for cutting fire wood. I can really see it being a great tool to have around, there are so many uses for it.

It really pays to dig out or spray burdock before it goes to seed in the fall. One of my 4 brothers had this job in the summer. I detest burdock!

It’s a boiler, so it’s hot water going through insulated pipes to the house and into the radiators

At last! I now know what that small smoking apparatus I see in several videos is. I assume from what you've told us that you operate a radiator system to warm your house via underground pipes (which I couldn't see), but why so far from the house?
A friend in Maine has an outside boiler and burns 4 foot long Tamarac logs in it year round.
Yes, we burn Tamarac slabs too at times

Hi Jim, I don't think I've seen your splitter especially for big rounds. Before I commented I searched your channel for splitting and 3 years ago you showed cutting some long firewood poles in half with the sawmill (pretty niffty). But I am curious how do you split the large rounds
How do you get the heat to your house? Is the furnace a boiler? Could you explain the system?
It’s a boiler, so it’s hot water going through insulated pipes to the house and into the radiators
I use a woodstove inside my house to het the inside of my house.
Why heat outside? How do you transport the heat to the inside?

I mostly have trained saddle horses, every discipline from western and reining to jumpers and dressage, even some eventers... I also have broke out some driving horses, a few arabs to cutters and buggies and some daft horses but I have never used blinkers on their bridles?? Do you always us blinkers??

I've had two places where the cooking, heating, and hot water all from the cooking stove, and a friend had one also with a pipe system in the slab floor, pumped a sealed system all though the floor right through the house, electric-driven propeller. Australia.

Does that heat everything in the house? Does the heat pipes run underground?
Yes, it heats the house and the pipes run underground to the house. It also heats the dry kiln when it is in operation
Ive been meaning to ask. i noticed your horses stand on an elevated wooden floor. what is the purpose of this? thx
There is concrete underneath, so I had to make it that high. It keeps the actual stalls cleaner because the is a place for the manure to drop

Probably 8-10 grand
Is there some reason that draft horses are not stabled in loose box stalls? And is there a reason that they don’t have free choice water available ( obviously not when hot from working) . Is the husbandry different from standard horses.
A lot of draft horses are stabled in box stalls,but I prefer straight stalls and my horses are used to them and I think quite comfortable in them. Water would freeze in my barn,but I water them regularly.You could check out an earlier video called My Top 5 Feeding Practices.

It would depend on why they kicked as to whether I would keep them. I have been kicked before
