I have been a Safetyman for 25 years. I have seen this, but never with large animals, always with men. The young man and his Dad in the hole was deeply concerning to me. Heavy equipment operating on the edge of the hole can lead to a grave for all in the hole very quickly. I am not judging, I would have likely done nothing different in the adrenalin rushed time you spent helping. Over my years. I have seen this kind of teamwork and heroism. God was with you that day Jim, and certainly your neighbors and horses. Thank you for your cool mind and quick thinking. Sent with respect.

Im so glad the horses are ok! I have to say I teared up just imagining the fear in the horses and their owners. I can’t imagine, wow, one on top of the other. Truly a God send that you were able to help. God has His hand in protecting the two horses especially the one on the bottom. God bless you all.

That was a great recovery! Thankful you were a good neighbor!
The "scoop" you talked about is called a "slip" similiar to a wheelbarrow without the front wheel. My dad used one in the 1930's helping build roads.

The only reason the Amish would have allowed you to film this and upload it would be to help a fellow man. Vets don't come cheap and to replace a well trained team such as these isn't cheap either. Sharing their unfortunate experience so others don't have to is a priceless gift. Bless this young couple and their community.

Had same 911 call, paint gelding became upset that the mare in the stall next to him was switch with a different mare, he kicked out and got his rear leg stuck through his window grate his entire leg went through
With the help of a railroad jack was able to spread grated window the rest was human back and legs pushing horse back through ,four people pulling at head and holding him up and my self and a 5ft lady with arms like your wife pushing that leg trough
horse came through fine just a little sore not even a scratch, myself will be having a hernia operation soon it is truly amazing what they can get into

Thank you Jim for helping your neighbors with their horses! I hope our horses never have an emergency like this. We have no open wells, but we are on top of a ridge and there are very deep ravines all over the place. I don't think our tractor could even lift them - but the farmer next-door would help I'm sure. Great to have good neighbors!

Thank you and the Amish family for sharing that. That was heart-stopping! Draft horses have such calm personalities. I don't think another breed would have been so chill. In a Budweiser 8-horse hitch performance, exiting the fan maneuver, one swing horse stepped over the traces, got tangled up, went down and pulled his mate down too. The rest of the horses stopped immediately and stood quietly as the leader and body pairs were unhitched. The downed horses quietly remained as they were, most of harness broken off or askew. One had no bridle. Two men crawled all over them, cutting them free. They got up onlu when prompted, and one was quietly lead out with a strap around his neck. The wheelers then took that heavy wagon out by themselves. That was the first time I saw the calm demeanor of draft horses. This pair was just the same. I expected them to struggle as they were lifted. My admiration goes to the farmer for his magnificent horses and to you for filming it.

Thanks Jim for being there when your neighbour needed you the most. Wow what a great rescue. it is miraculous to me that they didn't break a leg falling in the hole like that. I am thankful that your neighbour didn't loose any horses but you are right this could have happened to anyone. the main thing is the horses were fine and showing no signs of trauma as they go about being horses. The reason i love draft horses is no mater how much stress they experience they never panic they trust their masters or herd leaders absolutely to get them out of the situation they are in, horses are amazing creatures and they know when you are trying to help them i know this was taken two years ago but it is worth repeating because not all of us have amazing neighbours like you Jim and Brenda thank you both for helping out your neighbour i am sure he will be eternally grateful for what you did for him that day. I hope when i move out to the countryside that i will find great neighbours like you there. Great rescue!

My grandfather had 2 working horses years ago and one of them slipped into the river that was the back border of the pasture. The bank was about 10 foot down and we did a very similar thing with straps and a tractor to pull him out. After we pulled him out, except for being muddy he suffered no ill affects from this incident.

Wow, that was amazing! I almost didn’t watch because I was in an accident once where a drunk driver hit the carriage from the rear. I had 3 passengers with me, the horse was not hurt, 1 of the passengers got a scrape but I was the unlucky one with a head injury, 3 fractured vertebrae and some other more minor injuries. So I hope this doesn’t give me flashbacks!
So glad it all turned out well! You saved the day. I’m afraid without you that hole could have become their grave...Bless you for your level headedness and your knowledge of horses. ♥️👍🙏👏🐴

So wonderful that you were able to assist that young family in their time of need. And so wonderful that the horses are OK. God's blessings to you all. Good neighbors says it all!

What a blessing the horses are fine and on one was hurt in the process. Thanks for the video. Accidents happen in the real world. Glad it all worked out in the end. Take care and stay safe, Al

I'm glad the horses were able to walk away! Accidents happen with big animals all the time, even when you'd think nothing can go wrong or have done something a million times. Especially when working with animals, as well trained as they can be they're still animals and will react in unexpected ways. This could've been much, much worse and I'm glad it wasn't!

That was absolutely wonderful that you we’re able to help those horses out of that hole. I myself am an animal lover and I was so pleased that neither of the horses were hurt. Neighbors helping neighbors, so wonderful. God bless you .

"WOW" I totally agree with all comments !! Way to go Jim/Brenda & all who helped !! I'm amazed @ both horses are up & running around as normal !! This exactly is like the older way of neighbors helping neighbors!!

You had an angel on your shoulder for this rescue. It is wonderful that the horses were unharmed, especially when one was standing on top of the other.
